Volume 5 : Winter Edition December 2012
A MESSAGE FROM THE
MANAGING
DIRECTOR A big thank you to you all for
the tremendous efforts that
you all made not only getting
to and from your places of
work, during the Olympic
and Para Olympic Games but
the way you undertook the
extra duties that you were
asked to perform. I know
some of you were involved in
looking after some of the
competitors at one of our
sites and I have received
great reviews of how well
you performed your duties so
well done.
On another good note the
company ended its financial
year end in July and I am
pleased to report that the fi-
nancial targets set for the
company were achieved. This
put us in an excellent posi-
tion for the new financial
year and as a result have been
awarded several new con-
tracts (see inside for more).
In October The Security Ex-
cellence Awards were held in
London and I am delighted
that CIS Security in partner-
ship with Newbould Guardi-
ans were winners in the cate-
gory of “Security Partnering
Initiative of the Year”. My
congratulations to those
members of the company
involved in this; a tremen-
dous initiative. This demon-
strates how CIS is a forward
thinking innovative compa-
ny.
This year like others has
brought its challenges and we
have all embraced these con-
tinually driving the company
forward. My personal thanks
to you all again for your con-
tinued hard work and com-
mitment to CIS and I would
like to take this opportunity
to wish you all a very Happy
Christmas and New Year.

We are delighted to announce that CIS
Security were awarded winners of the
category “Security Partnering Initiative
of the Year” (CIS Security Ltd and New-
bould Guardians Ltd) at the Security Ex-
cellence Awards held on 17th October
at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London.
This award was specifically designed to
recognise the security organisation that
demonstrated the most success in work-
ing cohesively with its customers. Since
winning the London Borough of Camden
contract last year CIS have been partner-
ing with Newbould Guardians on some of
our contracts.
This is a tremendous achievement for
both CIS and Newbould Guardians.

The beginning of December saw three new contracts commence at CIS.
Accenture on 1st Decem-ber, a global management consulting, technology ser-vices and outsourcing com-pany. CIS were awarded the contract to supply se-curity services looking after their prestigious offices in Central London.
Also on 1st December the Goldsmiths College con-tract, situated locally in New Cross, commenced with 100% of the security staff transferring over to CIS. The transition was seamless and we are look-ing forward to working in partnership with Gold-smiths.
And to complete the ‘Hat Trick’ winning the St
George’s University con-tract based in South West London which commenced on 3rd December.
This is an excellent achieve-ment for CIS and a superb end to the calendar year.
As well as the much wel-comed Hat Trick we are pleased to say
that we successfully re-tained the LUPC Framework contract following a rigorous tender process.
Since achieving the LUPC approved supplier status we have also retained Birk-beck University of London, part of the LUPC Frame-work.
Other contracts won since the last Newsletter are:
General Healthcare’s Lon-don offices in Paris Gardens. Kemsley LLP’s Old Spital-fields Market whereby CIS took over the manned guarding and CCTV con-tract in August.
In September, GBR Phoenix Beard’s St Georges House West; CIS took over the manned security guarding contract.
In October CIS took on board 3 America Square
under man-aging agents GVA, and Harvard Uni-versity Press’ key holding and alarm response con-tract for their offices in Central London.

Winter 2012
Over the last few years the company has grown at a tremendous rate and the num-ber of people employed at the company has risen to over one thousand. The com-pany now has an annual turnover in ex-cess of £30 million.
This has led me to undertake a strategic review of the infrastruc-ture at Head Office.
I will still be very much actively involved in the business and will be working full time in my new role as Executive Chairman.
There have been a number of new positions created in
the last few years, Regional Security Man-agers, Control Room Manager, Contract Support Managers and the introduction of a Financial Controller and Health and Safe-ty Director to the company, all of whom along with everybody else have contribut-ed to the continued success of CIS.
To further strengthen our Senior Management Team the following pro-motions will take effect from 1st January 2013:
Neill Catton will be promoted to Managing Director.
Amanda McCloskey will be promoted to Sales and Marketing Director.
I hope you will all join me in congratulating them in their new roles and giving them your continued support and loyalty.
These are extremely exciting times for the company and I hope these changes will demonstrate to you all the opportunities that lay ahead.

Lucy Palmer Sales & Marketing Administrator
“I joined CIS Security in mid July working
part time on reception. I began full time in August, and was placed in
the Sales De-partment helping out with the marketing, advertising and branding side of the company. Since being part of CIS I have
taken part in an FM Event which involved precise planning and team work. I really enjoyed this new experience of a marketing
event and participation in pro-
moting the company.
I feel I settled into the CIS team very quickly and all my col-leagues are so lovely to work with I have already made some great friends. I am looking for-
ward to my future projects with CIS which will involve develop-ing and strengthening the mar-keting side of the business.”
Terence Gustave Contract Support Manager

with G4S Secure Solutions as the Country Manager for their oper-ations in St Lucia; Regional Oper-ations Manager (Manned, Cash, Aviation and Electronic Security
Services) for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean and Opera-tions Manager – Vehicle Search Area on the London 2012 Olym-
pic Project.
My entire career of 20 plus years has been in business management
working in the public and private sectors in the UK and Caribbean for organisations such as, Tate & Lyle Sugars Plc and Apetito Lim-ited in the UK, Government of St.
Lucia – Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Consumer Affairs and
as the Executive Vice President of
the St Lucia Hotel & Tourism Associ-
ation (SLHTA).
I have been made to feel ex-tremely welcomed by all at CIS Security and I am looking for-ward to championing the or-
ganisation’s core values of Customer Focus, Best People and Teamwork & Collaboration.”
Nick Clegg Business Development Manager “I joined CIS in
September, having previ-ously worked for MITIE for 6½ years in
a number of operational roles, progress-ing from Control Room Manager, Operations Manager
through to a Business Develop-ment role. My move to CIS was motivated by a desire to work for an organisation that is grow-ing and forward thinking. Since
arriving I have been immediately impressed by the team spirit
within the company and how
from the Managing Director down everyone is passionate about the business and works in unison. My role is primarily to continue developing our corpo-
rate portfolio at CIS adding to the well-established business we already have across a broad
range of sectors.
I’ve enjoyed my introduction to the company thus far and look forward to meeting more of CIS
staff, existing clients and becom-ing an integral part behind the expansion and success of CIS in the future.”

Whilst on duty last month Jurgita and Katarzyna were alerted to a woman who was in labour out-side Waitrose’s store. On arrival they discovered that the wom-an’s contractions were only one minute apart. An ambulance was called and the operator advised that they should prepare the woman for giving birth. First aid materials, blankets and clean
water were taken to the area and privacy screens erected. The emergency operator stayed on the line to advise Jurgita and Katarzyna on what they should do. After a few minutes of con-tractions baby Mathew was born and immediately wrapped in a blanket. Both Jurgita and Katarzyna continued to care for mother and baby until the ambu-
lance crew arrived. Though not part of their usual duties both Jurgita and Katarzyna did an excellent job. Well done ladies.

for ALL published Staff Articles in the Quarter-ly Newsletter We are always looking to publish your personal articles, so if you have anything we can share, from achievements to hobbies, please pass these on to
our Sales Department via: [email protected] Successful articles will be published here in the Quarterly Newsletter. This quarter’s article is from Angelique Hollingdrake, Sales and Marketing Administrator at Head
Office. Yours could be a winner too so send them in!
Liana Brown, Fitness Instruc-tor from New-ham College came up trumps when her name was drawn from the Security Awareness Day raffle. Lia-na says she is very pleased with her Moun-tain Bike win. Contract Man-ager Anthony Bridgeman with Susan Jeffers made the presen-tation together with Security
Officer Paula Holness. Sarah Russell, a student at the
University of East London won the sec-ond raffle of a Specialized Hardrock Mountain Bike worth over £400. Sarah is needless to say pleased with her win. The presen-tation was made to Sa-rah by Neill Catton (Operations Director), John Felix (Contract Develop-ment Manager), in the presence
of Helen Ellis (Associate Direc-tor of Facilities) and Security Officer Janet Holness.
Sainsbury’s recently invited budding writers to create an exciting new kids’ story to light up young
imaginations. All entries began with “Once upon a Munch Time, there was a cow called Munch…”
Angelique Hollingdrake, based at Head Office, took part and won third place with her story “Munch Over the Moon”, bagging herself a £100 Sainbury’s voucher in the process and featuring alongside the other winners in their free in-store magazine!
Angelique says "The idea just popped into my head after I de-cided to take part, which I thought was quite lucky! I like the mes-
sage behind the story because it is something I intend on teaching my children - you can do anything you put your mind to!"
‘Munch over the Moon’
“Munch thought that in order to reach the moon he would have to invent a thingamajigger to help him jump higher than the tallest oak tree on Munch Hill. He worked hard day and night in his bedroom, only taking breaks to have his breakfast, lunch and supper; often forgetting to take a break
for a snack.”

SECURITY AWARENESS DAYS Over the year we have run numerous Secu-
rity Awareness Events across the company.
These have been met with great response
and this year has been the busiest we have
had in terms of the number of events held
and the number of people attending. We had
two very special people assisting this year
in Janet and Paula Holness. Both worked at
various sites to get these events done and
the success we had would not have been
possible without their sterling efforts - a big
Thank You to both of you. Thanks must
also go out to Terry Goss and the guys at
Lewisham Hospital who ran their own
events with equal success. Finally,
Control for organising all the deliveries
and logistics behind these events. Well
done to you all.
This year we ran a raffle to win a top of the
range mountain bike across the Educational
sites and carried out security marking for
the staff and students. We have two lucky
winners, one from UEL and the other from
Newham College. The free give-a-ways we
offered at the corporate events were as
always well received and this year we gave
away record numbers of personal attack
alarms, slap bands and various safe drinking
kits. Jon Felix, Business Development Manager
Health and Safety
Winter is here again and although we haven’t
really been troubled too
much with poor weather it’s best to be aware that
it’s likely we will get
some challenging weath-er within the next few
months.
Things to consider for
safe working are: trav-
el, workplace condi-
tions and welfare provi-
sions.
Travel to work is more
difficult during the win-
ter due to poor light conditions, wet or icy
roads and pavements
making driving and walking far more unsafe
than during warmer drier months. Obviously com-
mon sense is the first
controlling factor and everyone should be
wearing the correct foot-
wear for walking and vehicles should be
properly serviced and set
up for winter conditions.
Welfare at work is also
something that needs to be looked at during win-
ter and staff need to
report any loss of facility immediately so that
action can be taken to
remedy it as quickly as
possible.
PPE such as coats, boots and winter garments like
hats and scarves should
be brought to work on
every shift so that com-
fortable working is
achieved when working outside. We are in a
country where the weath-
er changes a lot especial-ly in winter so be pre-
pared for all eventuali-
ties.
Environment
Oh dear its cold, turn
up the heating. It gets
dark very early now,
turn on all the lights.
We’ve all heard that
haven’t we and I bet
we’ve all done it as well.
If you really thought
about it would you need
to do all those things.
We cannot work in poor
conditions and if it’s cold we need to heat the work
area so we can function
properly but what we do not need is the work area
heated to greenhouse
temperatures or the whole building looking
like a hotel in Las Vegas!
Heat the area to a rea-sonable level and wear your uniform as provid-ed to add the additional level of comfort to work safely.
Only light those areas
which are required to be lit due to safety or security reasons.
Make sure you follow your site’s Environ-mental Rules and ad-vise clients and other staff to think about the environment when using power on the site.

SECURITY
MANAGER OF THE YEAR 2012
Justin Morgan Spitalfields Market
Justin as a Security Manag-er has grown from strength to strength and this has resulted in 2012 being a really outstanding year for him. Justin con-stantly puts himself out there to take on more challenges and we have seen his Security Network Forum continue to grow and take on new mem-
bers. Having played a small part in the award of CBRE preferred sup-plier status, Justin’s cli-ent has allowed him to become involved in new CBRE contract awards so that he can carry out a mentoring role to any prospective new man-agers that may join CIS. This recognition has not gone unnoticed by CBRE senior management which puts CIS in a stronger position when tendering for new busi- ness opportunities.

INNOVATION 2012
Ben Browne Spitalfields, London
Earlier on in the year Ben was tasked with tallying the number of vehicles entering the site. At this point Ben took it upon himself to devise a full comprehensive re-port with graphs, charts and tables detailing precisely when in the day these vehicles came onto site. The client was so impressed that it was sent to the head of CBRE who in turn have utilised this detailed information to im-prove movement to and from the site. Ben has since in-troduced other initiatives and training programmes and has clearly demonstrated his ability to go beyond the extra mile.
BEST TEAM 2012
UEL London
The Docklands Campus Security Team made a remarka-ble impression on the United States and Chinese Olym-pic Teams whilst manning the site during the Olympics this year. The Chinese Sports and Marketing Manager quotes “I want to let you know that we have felt safe and we have been happy with the security team that worked at UEL”. The Chief Security Officer for the Unit-ed States Olympic Committee quoted “Your team did an excellent job. It was an excellent partnership.” The Team at UEL continue to do an excellent job, in par-ticular when a fire broke out in the kitchen area of a stu-dent’s residence. They responded quickly and profession-ally and evacuated all students safely assisting the Fire Brigade where possible. The Security Team also sourced new accommodation for the new homeless students and have received commendations from both the Client and the London Fire Brigade on how professionally they man-aged the incident.
