2. Transport

3. Reclamation and Excavation

4. Domestic Source

Livestock Livestock Farms:Farms:- the pig and poultry farms

produce a large amount of manure- is disposed into the streams with little treatment - brings organic waste and ammonia to the streams

- dyeing and bleaching factories often discharge chemical wastes and metals into the streams

FactoriesFactories::

Factories:Factories:- discharge the hot water loaded with toxic chemicals and metals into sea

- pollute the soils on land which are then dumped into sea

- oil spillage from ships occasionally contaminates the sea

Transport:Transport:

Reclamation and Reclamation and Excavation:Excavation:-reduce the rate of flow

across the Harbour -pollutants are easily accumulated in the Victoria Harbour - reduces the dissolved oxygen for the aquatic organisms

Domestic Domestic Source:Source:- human excreta is

discharged into the sea

-many sources of water pollution

-close to one another and in huge amount

- lacks of treatment facilities

- only 34% of Hong Kong's urban sewage receives primary treatment or better

-some illegal connections of waste water pipes to storm-water pipes

-waste water will be discharged directly into sea without treatment

2.  Cause the rise of red tides which devastate Hong Kong fisheries. The food chain will be affected as well.

1. Pollution reduces the rate of photosynthesis of plants in water and the amount of food resources. So fish productivity is reduced.

3. Many beaches are polluted with solid wastes which means a loss of recreational resource.

4. Due to the polluted beaches, we have fewer places to carry out recreational activities.

4. Drinking water containing pollutants pose hazards to health. Pathogens in water would cause illnesses in human.

5. Consumption of seafood accumulated with pollutants,

would also affect our health.

6. Large amount of money is needed to mitigate the damage on the environment by the pollutants.
