One Step Beyond
Hope & Glory: the story so farThe group formed in 2002, out of the ashes of various Oxfordshire soul band and friends of friends with a love of ska music.
The band began jams and rehearsal sessions in an old converted farmhouse in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside and quickly struck on a winning, musical formula playing the earliest and latest nutty songs of Madness. Hope & Glory’s first gig was at the Hobgoblin pub, Bicester in April of 2003 to a packed out audience.
The band gained momentum during the following year and played to many sold out venues, mainly in the South of England. However, a couple of years later the band had morphed into using a more loose collection –members came and went but the gigs and positive crowd reactions continued.
The band are now a well established unit.
Snap-shot...
Hope & Glory were formed in 2002 by Steve (bass), Daz (vocals), Geoff (drums), Johnno (horn),
Judith (keyboards) and Steve (sax).
After a few comings and goings Colin (guitar), Paul (sax) and then Richard (keyboard) joined
to form the dynamic, current line-up.
Hope & Glory recreate the 'heavy, heavy monster sound' of Madness and the best of class ska music.
We play 2 x ¾ hour sets (or 1 x 1½ hour set) and we have our own 2 kilowatt PA system and small lighting rig.
Whatever kind of party you have in mind, we can cater for it – private functions, venues, festivals and weddings.
Don’t Watch That, Watch This2007 – a change in direction…
Opened our live set to other classic, ska influences other than Madness, including dynamic songs by Bad Manners and The Specials.
We supported Bad Manners in Wimborne at a sold out ska festival – one of our finest performance to date.
December 2007 saw Hope & Glory perform in front of a crowd of ~5000 in Banbury, headlining the Christmas lights turn on event with Adam Woodyatt (of East Enders Ian Beale fame!)
New for 2008 & 2009: More up tempo instrumentals and old ska classics – the perfect ska recipe to get everyone on their feet and fill that dancefloor.
