My friends in Christ: Archbishop Perez: Pastoral Visit to St. Jude Parish

Archbishop Perez has been the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for the past eighteen months. During those months, not counting the months that all of our churches and schools were closed because of the pandemic, Archbishop Perez has visited most of the parishes and high schools for a pastoral visit. I am happy to let you know that he will celebrate the 4:30 PM Vigil Mass here in our Church on Saturday, November 6th. He is looking forward to celebrating the Vigil Mass and blessing our parish community. He will be available to meet with all our parishioners personally after the Mass. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Archbishop Perez. I ask you to try to be with us for the special Mass with our Shepherd. It will be a great honor to have him in our midst.

Congratulations to the Newly Confirmed

This weekend on Sunday, October 17, 72 seventh-grade St. Jude parish students received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Our parish was honored to have Most Reverend John J. McIntyre confer upon our students this sacrament. The Confirmation celebration was filled with great joy. The families were so proud of their sons and daughters. Our Confirmandi were well prepared and clearly open to receiving the grace that comes from the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

A special thank you to our principal Sr. Elizabeth, Mrs. Lori Rawski, and all our teachers and catechists for preparing our students to receive this sacrament. Please join me in congratulating the following students:

God bless! Monsignor Francis W. Beach, Pastor

NEWS FROM ST. JUDE SCHOOL

Bishop John McIntyre will confirm our seventh-grade parish students on Sunday, October 17th, during Mass at 2:00 pm. Our celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation is always a spiritual highlight for our students, sponsors, families, and the entire parish. Thank you to all who prepared the students and planned the many details of the day. Please continue to pray for our newly confirmed youth that they will rely on the gifts of the Holy Spirit all the days of their lives and remain strong in witnessing and living their faith.

We are announcing good news! Once again, St. Jude School earned the title of a "2021 Archdiocesan School of Distinct Instruction"! This recognition is determined after a thorough review of the Terra Nova Standardized Test results from this year's spring testing to the last test taken. By comparing the scores of the two years, our students gave evidence of expected or greater than expected growth in all grades and all areas tested. We are St. Jude Proud and Grateful!

Join us next Sunday at FALL FEST 2021 featuring a "Trunk-or-Treat" Fall Craft Fair, Cornhole Tournament, Live Music, Food Trucks, Costume Contest, Haunted House, Sand Art, and more! Family fun for everyone! Register at www.stjudeschool.com.

A Message from our Director of Faith Formation

It is with a grateful heart that I wish a fond farewell and happy retirement to Ms. Jodie D’Alessandro. Jodie has been a dedicated employee of St. Jude for 27 years, beginning as a volunteer teaching religion and then working as an assistant to the director of Religious Education for many years.

Jodie has helped prepare thousands of students for the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. Jodie has assisted at over 800 PREP sessions on Monday & Tuesday nights and Sunday mornings. She has been the parish scheduler for hundreds of meetings in the parish over the years.

Jodie will be greatly missed by the St. Jude family, yet I am so happy for her to be joining her daughter, son-in-law, and their children in lovely Nashville Tennessee. Who knows, maybe we’ll see her on the stage one day?

On behalf of all of the PREP families and the parish, I wish to thank you for your dedication, commitment, and yes even your fiery personality that you brought to each and every day.

Love and Many Blessings, Lori

“May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back,

May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rain fall soft upon your fields, and,

Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand”.

An Irish Blessing

After 25 years, our Caring for Friends coordinator, Lucy Jones, is retiring. We thank Lucy for her years of

faithful service! We are now looking for a new CFF Ministry Leader (Coordinator).

St. Jude parishioners actively support CFF by providing meals, breakfast bags, and Christmas gifts (through the Giving Tree), which reach the isolated homebound throughout the greater Philadelphia area. CFF Coordinator is a rewarding, easy position.

Responsibilities include: making supplies available to parishioners who want to prepare meals; promoting this service opportunity through Flocknote and bulletin announcements, etc; responding to parishioner questions about how to participate; coordinating pickup & drop off of supplies (trays/labels/bags); and when a new local “friend” needs a visitor, the Coordinator helps advertise the need.

Please contact the parish office (215-822-0179, [email protected]) for more information about this rewarding ministry.

Please join us for a retreat designed especially for those suffering from grief and loss. This event will help you cope with grief and will offer spiritual support through the healing comfort of God.
