The 70s: CRISES AND EXTREMES http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970s

• Vietnam war: Americans lost and the Government ignored the soldiers and their families

• Corruption + abuses: Government, police, education, health system, etc.

• No social services (unemployment, welfare, child protection, etc.)

• Discrimination: racism, sexism, rich vs. poor, etc.• Violence + insecurity (no jobs, no money, no education)• Hippies: ‘Peace and love!’ ‘Back to nature!’ ; music,

smoking, drugs, painted vans, ‘free sex’, no social norms, long hair, long beards, AIDS, etc.

• Kids: grew up alone, formed gangs: the gang replaced the family (mutual help and protection).
