Students will be required to earn an endorsement in the one of the following areas:

1. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)2. Business and Industry3. Public Services4. Arts and Humanities5. Multidisciplinary Studies

An endorsement is essentially a sequence of courses in a career cluster that will better prepare our students for a career they are potentially interested in

Page 7: Kingwood Park High School Counselor Information Night Monday, 9/21/2015

For Example:

A student wanting to be a welder will earn a “Business and Industry” endorsement and complete the following sequence of courses:

9th Grade: Principles of Agriculture

10th Grade: Principles of Architecture and Construction

11th Grade: Welding

12th Grade: Welding II

For Example:

A student wanting to be an engineer will earn a “STEM” endorsement and complete the following sequence of courses:

9th Grade: Principles of Architecture

10th Grade: Engineering Design

11th Grade: Concepts of Engineering, Robotics

12th Grade: Aeroscience, Practicum

Page 8: Kingwood Park High School Counselor Information Night Monday, 9/21/2015

One is not necessarily better than the other but the FHSP option does provide some flexibility in a students schedule.

Examples:

1. Three Social Studies options instead of four to encourage students to take classes that pertain to their career pathway

2. Biology and 3 “advanced sciences” instead of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics to encourage students to take sciences that may pertain to their career pathway
