Prayer Room Open 9am - 4pm Monday - Thursday; 9:30am - 2:30pm most Fridays

(not available 1pm-1:30pm Tuesday)

Prayer is at the heart of our life as believers of Jesus and as a community of his followers. We must spend time listening to the Lord, giving him space to speak to us, surrendering ourselves to his agenda, bringing ours and the needs of others to him, giving thanks and praise to him.

We want to see prayer to the Lord increasingly at the heartbeat of our church. We have set aside the Prayer Room (the room where prayer occurs after church) to be available for you, or groups of folks to come in at any time during the times mentioned above to pray. The Prayer Team have set up the room to create an environment which will help us to pray. We would love this room to be used right throughout the week.

If you have any questions about its use, please talk to Alicia Elder — Prayer Team leader, 027.329.1786

Praying for our YouthTowards the end of last year, as the parent of two teens, I have felt a growing concern for our youth and the things they are facing, so I feel the need to do something.

Prayer is a powerful tool, but I find I am more disciplined if committing to praying with others, so would you consider joining me to pray on Wednesday, 15th May, in the Creche room opposite the church reception desk, from 7pm when Youth Group starts; stay for as little or long as you like. We would finish by 8.15pm (when Youth Group needs all the rooms), and since Café Wednesday will also be running, we could grab a coffee and a treat! Prayer would be for our youth group and leaders, schools in Dunedin, issues affecting youth in our city and nation, and however God leads.”

FREE and all are welcome to come along.

An Evening with Jesus — Tonight @ 7:30pm

Our monthly Evenings with Jesus event is this Sunday, 14th April, 7.30pm.

Evenings with Jesus are designed to give you an hour of time free from distraction that you can spend with our Lord. These evenings are once a month at church and are guided, though you are always welcome to use the space in whatever way is most helpful. If you have never been to one, come and give it a go. We would love to see you!

Life Groups - Keeping Jesus at the Centre of our LivesI have heard story after story of folk initiating Life Groups. To date there are over thirty groups that have been formed. That is fantastic! One group has formed as a follow up to a Growth Course. One guys group meets at 6:15am over breakfast; others meet at lunchtime; Sat morning; during the day; and of course, in the evenings.

We have been particularly encouraged by the creative initiative of so many of you in forming groups. Keep remembering the core purpose of these groups - to keep Jesus at the centre of our everyday life. If you haven't picked up a Life Group starter kit - grab one off the information table - they give you a set of possible questions to use as a guide. In coming months, we will give further suggestions to help keep your group fresh.

Haven't found a group yet? We are conscious that not everyone who wants to be in a group is yet in one. Can you let us know - email Tina in the office ([email protected]). In the coming weeks, we will also give another opportunity in church for you to respond. —Bruce

Prayer for the Sick“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church

to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well;

the Lord will raise them up. — James 5:14-15a

If you are sick and would like some of the church elders to pray for you then please make contact with us. We would love to minister to you in this way. Either speak to one of the elders or contact Tina in the office and she will pass your request on.

Pastoral CareWe have a team of people who can get alongside you, in a non-judgemental way to care and help you discover God's help and a way forward.

If you would like to talk to someone – please contact one of the following people: Mike Bagge (ph 487.9895 or 027.366.9506), Andrea Astwood (ph 454.5542) or Bruce Elder (ph 454.3173 or 021.127.8110).

Prayer Gathering – TONIGHT 28th April @ 7:30pmOn the last Sunday of each month, we come together to pray for our church and for the Lord’s work among us. Praying together unifies and connects us with the purposes of Christ.

If you have never been to one, we want to really encourage to come join us tonight; let’s come together to pray.

NEW to DCBC?

If you are new to DCBC, we would love to get to know you better. We host regular lunches for newcomers, where you will be able to meet some of our leaders and find out more about our church. You will also get to meet other newcomers to DCBC.

Please contact Kate Cooper, ph 027.265.1730 or email [email protected] if you would like to attend.

One on one interviews and health screening will be offered at the beginning and end of the seven weeks to set goals and track progress. After the service, you may collect your children from Little Rockets and Little Orbit but please do not collect children from Orbit until 11:45am unless it is absolutely necessary. We find it difficult to run a quality programme with the variation in service lengths that inevitably occurs…. so having a set end time is very important to us and the kids; AND it also gives you the chance to talk to other adults and new people, or have a coffee after the service without feeling like you have to rush off.

INTERMEDIATES start in the service, and then leave to their programme just before the message begins.

For details on specific programme, please contact:

Otherwise feel free to contact either of our Children’s Ministry Co-leaders: Jen Crump 021.165.5912 or Kyra Jones 021.104.9052.

—Bruce

Blessing the Concord Community

17th -19th MayStepping out of Our comfort Zone

On Sunday the 19th May we want to seek to bring a little joy to every home in Concord. Our plan is to take a nicely presented pack of goodies / baking to every home in Concord, simply to bring a little joy into each home. We will simply say we are from DCBC (or the church across the road) and words like - we just want to give you a gift, that we hope you will enjoy.

To do this well we are going to need a lot of baking. There are over 600 homes in Concord! A team will wrap and present it on Saturday afternoon of the 18th May, and then after the church lunch on Sunday 19th at around 1pm we want as many people as possible from our church family to be involved in distributing it. This is something you can do as a family. We know doing this can be a bit scary, but we want to challenge you to make this venture a time where you step out of your comfort zone. It will be exciting doing this together as a church community.

What we are going to need is masses of baking delivered to the church on either Friday night the 17th May or Saturday morning the 18th; and then lots of people to be involved on the Sunday. Next week we will have sign up sheets and further information.

Plan to be involved: May we bless our community!
