In English class, there are times when students don’t have the answer, no time to talk or feel to shy to speak in front of the class.

One method to help communication is

THINK-PAIR-SHARE

Page 5: I am in a river, but not in a lake, I am in computer, but not in a T.V. and I am in rain, but not in snow, What am I? What came first, the chicken

Teacher asks a question.

Students then pair up and discuss the question and their ideas.

PairStudents are then given time to think

quietly about the question.

Think

After pairs have discussed, then the pairs will share their thoughts in a big group. Share

Things to remember

Not important for students to get right answer for questions, but rather create language.

Also you can have students use dictionaries to help encourage learning new vocabulary.

Keep questions vague to help students be more creative and provide more language.

There could be some students that don’t give full participation, be cautious and attentive to those students.
