Bill Evans er måske den største pianist i jazzens historie, elsket af jazzfans over hele verden. I 1965 lærte Alex Riel og Eddie Gomez hinanden at kende som medlemmer af netop Bill Evans trio. Denne aften fejrer de sammen med Carsten Dahl både Montmartre og Bill Evans, som hver især har betydet så meget for dem alle tre.

Bill Evans may be the greatest jazz pianist in history, loved by jazz fans all over the world. In 1965 Alex Riel and Eddie Gomez got to know each other when they played in Bill Evans’ trio. Montmartre er stolt over at kunne præsentere ham i tre spændende konstellationer med europæiske musikere efter eget valg: i smuk duet med den italienske klarinettist Nico Gori, som kvartet sammen med Nico Gori og Danmarks nye, internationalt anerkendte makkerpar Jesper Bodilsen og Morten Lund og endelig i det klassiske trioformat med Jesper Bodilsen og Alex Riel.

Fred Hersch is one of the greatest jazz artists around, and he always astonishes his audi-ence with his lyrical playing, inspired by Bill Evans. In recent years his playing has turned more dynamic and he is considered one of the most intelligent jazz pianists. Montmartre is proud to present him in three exciting constellations with European musicians of his choice: in a beautiful duo with Italian clarinetist Nico Gori, in a quartet with Nico Gori and Denmark’s new, internationally renowned pair Jesper Bodilsen and Morten Lund and finally in a classical trio with Jesper Bodilsen and Alex Riel. Johan Christoffersen er en kommende gigant på den internationale jazzscene. I 2011 vandt han således solist-prisen i New Nordic Jazz Comets, og siden har han været stærkt efterspurgt. Hans spil er originalt, medrivende og med klare referencer til kongerækken af altsaxofonister fra Charlie Parker til Cannonball Adderly. Med sig har han tre af Danmarks stærkt swingende musikere.

Johan Christoffersen is an upcoming giant on the international jazz scene. In 2011, he received the soloist award in New Nordic Jazz Comets and the demand for him has been overwhelming since then. His sound is original, involving and clearly inspired by legend-ary alto saxophonists from Charlie Parker to Cannonball Adderly. Three of Denmark’s new, swingin’ musicians join him. B E BOP

Sara Indrio regnes for en af Danmarks mest interessante sangskrivere. Hendes musik er svær at genrebestemme, teksterne er poetiske fortællinger om det at være menne-ske lige nu, mens musikken har tydelige referencer til Joni Mitchell, jazz og Italien. Sara Indrios unikke vokal udfolder sig på smukkeste vis i dette nye samarbejde med Paolo Russo, som også leverer en del af aftenens materiale. Smukkere bliver det ikke.

Sara Indrio is considered one of the most interesting songwriters in Denmark. Her music is hard to categorise – the lyrics are poetic stories about being a part of today’s human-ity while the music is clearly marked by Joni Mtchell, jazz and Italy. The unique vocal of Sara Indrio is beautifully expressed in this new teamwork with Paolo Russo who is also delievering a part of this evening’s material. It is as good as it gets. VOCAL

Steen Rasmussen har igen inviteret en af Brasiliens helt uimodståelige vokalister til København. Sammen med Leo Minax spiller hans quarteto nutidig brasilansk musik, som vi kender den fra Gilberto Gil. Sofistikeret jazzet folklore med udgangspunkt i Brasiliens højland, Minas Gereas, hvor Leo Minax har sine rødder. Herudover tages der fat om det store brasilianske bagkatalog af bossanovaens førstemand, Antonio Carlos Jobim, som Leo Minax fortolker ustyrligt smukt og indtagende.

Once again, Steen Rasmussen invites one of Brazil’s irresistible vocalists to Copenhagen. Together with Leo Minax his quarteto plays modern, Brazilian music as we know it from Gilberto Gil. Sophisticated, jazzy folklore strongly connected to the highlands of Brazil, Minas Gereas, where Leo Minax has his roots. Additionally, the quartet embraces the great Brazilian repertoire of the king of bossa nova, Antonio Carlos Jobim, which Leo Minax interprets in exceptionally beautiful and endearing ways. Særlig opmærksomhed denne aften får Doug Raney, der anses som en af jazzens store guitarister, og som især er kendt for sit lange samarbejde med Chet Baker, som også Jesper Lundgaard har spillet med.

Christina Von Bülow is a unique Danish musician. Her beautiful tune, excellent taste and sense of melody are very special and she particularly enjoys playing the standard jazz repertoire. Special attention this evening goes to Doug Raney, who is considered one of the greatest jazz guitarists and who is especially known for his long-lasting teamwork with Chet Baker, with whom Jesper Lundgaard has played as well. København er igennem tiderne blevet beriget af, at en række store musikere er flyttet til byen. Senest den engelske Gerard Presencer, som er stærkt efterspurgt over det meste af Europa, og som har spillet med alle fra Sting til Chick Corea og ikke mindst Ungarns største stjerne Kálmán Oláh, hvis anslag og rytmiske fornemmelse bedst kan sammenlignes med Keith Jarretts. De to har dannet en spændende kvartet, som hovedsageligt spiller eget materiale. Det er både smukt, spændende og ualmindeligt virtuost.

During the years, Copenhagen has gained exceptionally from the immigration of several great musicians. Most recently, English Gerard Presencer, who is in great demand in Europe and who has played with stars such as Sting and Chick Corea and not least Hungary’s most important jazz musician Kálmán Oláh, whose tune and sense of rhythm is comparable to that of Keith Jarrett. Thomas Fryland is one of the finest musicians in Denmark, much appreciated as a soloist, composer and big band musician. Igennem sin lange karriere har Alex Riel spillet med mange af de største pianister i jazzen fra Bill Evans og Michel Pettrucciani til Kenny Drew og Billy Strayhorn. Nu viderefører han jazzens fine tradition med at spille på tværs af generationerne. Med sig har han USA’s nye stjerneskud, den kun 22-årige pianist Christian Sands, der allerede nu turnerer flittigt rundt i verden med bl.a. Christian McBride. Trioen fuldendes af det endnu yngre danske talent Jonathan Bremer, som er sidste skud på den danske nybassisme, som NHØP, Bo Stief og Mads Vinding m.fl. er fornemme ambassadører for.

Throughout his long career, Alex Riel has played with many of the greatest jazz pianists from Bill Evans and Michel Pettrucciani to Kenny Drew and Billy Strayhorn. Today, he continues the lovely jazz tradition of bridging the generation gap through music. Jesper Thilo is probably the most popular Danish jazz musician in history – known and loved by everyone. Natholdet (the Night Shift) is an old Montmartre tradition that began in 1962 when the legendary jazz club got its license to stay open after midnight. Today we keep the tradition alive, inviting new, inspiring musicians to an informal jam session every Friday. Swing, smiles and a good time are guaranteed for both curious newcomers looking for a unique experience and our more established jazz audience.
