Welcome to Our Visitors
Thank you for sharing in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with us today. Please fill out a visitor’s card (found in the pew
racks) and return it in the offering plate so we will have a record of your visit. And please introduce yourself after Mass.
If you are a Catholic, we at Our Lady of Walsingham receive Holy Communion kneeling and by intinction (both species on the tongue).
If you are not a Catholic, during Communion we invite you either to come forward with your arms crossed over your chest, or fingers across your lips, and receive a blessing from the Priest or Deacon, or remain in your pew and reflect on the presence of Christ.
You are encouraged to take the Bulletin & Mass Leaflet home to utilize them in your prayer life.

Lenten Veiling & the Litany in Procession
Summoning the faithful to penance, the Sacred Liturgy in the season of Lent
breaks with routine and reorders what we see, what we hear, and how we pray at
Mass: flowers disappear from the altar, the music is more somber, the Gloria is not
sung, and Alleluia is not heard till Easter. In addition, at our parish, images and
statuary are veiled throughout Lent, and special penitential notes punctuate the
liturgical action.
In medieval England, it was customary for the duration of Lent to shroud all stat-
ues, crosses, and altars in the “Lenten array” of unbleached linen. By the seven-
teenth century, throughout the Latin Church, images were commonly veiled in
purple from Passiontide until Holy Saturday. Our tradition at Our Lady of Wal-
singham is to combine both customs: from Ash Wednesday on, everything is
veiled in violet, save the Calvary at the High Altar and the Stations of the Cross;
on Maundy Thursday, white veils replace the purple; and on Good Friday all is
shrouded in black. While the veiling of images represents a kind of visual
“fasting” by which we forego gazing upon sacred depictions to contemplate
Christ’s Passion with the interior eyes of the soul, the practice also reminds us of
Jesus’ humiliation. In His suffering and death, He concealed His divinity--“Jesus
hid himself and went out of the temple” (John 8:59)--and we wait therein mourn-
ing till His Resurrection fills the house with the glory of the risen Lord and all His
saints.
On the First and Fifth Sundays in Lent, we follow the customary of the Ordinari-
ate Missal by beginning the principal Sunday Mass with the Litany chanted in pro-
cession. Thus we continue the venerable tradition of the medieval Sarum Missal;
thus we honor the first part of the Latin liturgy to be translated into English in
1544; and thus we preserve one of the glories of the Anglican Prayer Book, now
restored to the fullness of Catholic worship. The Litany sung in procession sends
the faithful forth on their Lenten pilgrimage with the contrite strains of respon-
sive supplication, moving powerfully forward with successive invocations, suffrag-
es, and intercessory petitions, and leading directly into the Kyries of the Mass and
to the Holy Sacrifice. Dr. Clint Brand
St. Alban Guild
Come as you are and bring your lunch! All Parishioners are invited to eat lunch and join us for fellowship with members of our Church family after the 11:15

We are targeting to have 10 to 12 families as part of this ministry.
