First up, we played Weskan. We were able to win this first match easily 25-11 and 25-12. Weskan was missing some of their key players, so we will have to be prepared to face a different team when we play them again. Overall, we did well serving and passing this match. Next, our JV played Syracuse. This was their first match to play this season. We saw a lot of good things, and several things we need to continue to work on. They fell in 2 sets 19-25, 15-25. We have 3 players that have to play both JV and V and this makes for an exhausting evening for them. Next, our varsity faced Sharon Springs. We continue to have a mental block with this team. We know we can win, but we always struggle. We lost the first match 25-15 and the 2 nd match we played better but lost 25-18. We missed a few serves, which cost us some momentum, and we need to work harder on defense and anticipation. Immediately following, we faced Syracuse again after losing a hard-fought 3 set match to them at Healy a few days before. Our girls really played hard and with so much heart and effort in set one and two. We took the first set 25-19. Myla Reynolds played the net so well, Grace was serving and hitting the best I have seen yet this year from front row and back row, and our setter, Bri Hill was doing an amazing job getting to the ball and setting the right hitters. In the second set, we found ourselves down 13-8. These girls did not give up and kept fighting, slowly chipping away at their lead. We were able to get the lead at 24-23. Unfortunately, even though our girls were playing well and with so much effort, a few plays did not go well and we lost 24- 26. Sadly, this is just how it goes sometimes. This was difficult mentally for our team. We were exhausted at this point. The 3 rd set did not go well; we could not get our composure back and lost in the 3 rd set 15-25. We are young, and will continue to push harder at practices to better ourselves. This team has the potential to have a great season! Our record is 2-4 at this time. We have to keep showing up to practice and working hard every minute. I am so proud of the maturity and fight this team is showing. They are competing hard and are so fun to watch in these moments.
