LAST WEEK – January 11, 2019 – Dr. Ryan Taylor; Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Fifty-nine attended on Friday. Rotarian guests were Brian Williams from Illinois QC Rotary and Missy Gowey from Iowa QC Ro-tary. Other guests were Brian Ritter, guest of Becky Bray, Jean Schinckel, guest of Jack Schinckel, Annulka Shipp, guest of Marcia Brandt and Jason Happel, guest of Scott Case.

Kelly Meyer promoted Special Olympics for Saturday, January 19. Jeff Ashcraft asked for volunteers for the Tryke build on Febru-ary 9 at Handicapped Development Center on Brady Street. Greg Schaapveld told about the opportunity to purchase tickets to the Quad City Storm Hockey game on Saturday, February 15. They are $15 each (with $5 coming back to Rotary) and will be available at the meetings to purchase from Greg.

Dr. Brad Burt was the sergeant and collected $50 in fines. Deanna Jensen-Valliere gave $20 to the education fund for a board she joined dealing with the crime of sex trafficking. Brian Williams gave $50 in honor of his 50th birthday.

Dr. Ryan Taylor from the Genesis Spine and Joint Health Center told about the amazing EXSO bionics systems that help with the physical rehabilitation of people that need intense therapy from a stroke, brain injury or other debilitating injury. They will be help-ful to the Physical Therapists, so they will not get hurt from lifting and moving the patient around. The patient has to have use of one upper limb for the unit to work. The power for the unit is in a back pack strapped to the patient’s back. The unit can be used anywhere, don’t have to go to the gym.

There is not a machine like this available in the QC. Fundraising continues, as they are about $20,000 away for a $235,000 unit. There are units in Des Moines and Peoria. Dr. Taylor loves to help people and he will be super excited when the first Exoskeleton Unit arrives for him to use with his patients.

The 4 Way Test Of the things we THINK SAY or DO

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
