Core Learning Skill Thinking Skills

Think, Think, Think

Art and DTWe will create our own shadow puppets for our Benji and the jungle animals story.

We will investigate drawing figures and different body positions, self-portraits and Picasso-style portraits; focusing on proportions and positioning,

PSHECollective worship theme - TruthfulnessIn PSHE, we will be looking at sex and relationship education and to be able to recognise physical differences between boys and girls. During collective worship we shall be looking at truth and deception, choosing the truth, standing for the truth and searching for the truth.

HistoryWe shall be linking this to our healthy eating work in Science. We will learn about Captain Cook and what happens when we don’t eat enough vitamin C. We will design a poster to explain the benefits of eating enough Vitamin C.

LiteracyBenji and the jungle animalsWe will be participating in an interactive puppet show by Moving Hands – Benji and the jungle animals.

From this starting point, we will explore story sequencing, story boards, characterisation of the animals and explore feelings. We shall make our own shadow puppets and explore personification and movement through role play. We will create our own version where Benji travels to a different climate – who will he meet there?

We will continue with our sentence structure and extending our writing using SymWriter and Clicker 6.

We will have daily Visual phonics sessions. New spellings will be giving on a Wednesday and spelling tests will be on Tuesdays.

NumeracyAddition and subtraction, shapes and measures. We will be using Numicon, number lines and number squares to re-enforce these concepts in the classroom. We will use knowledge of place value to position these numbers on a number track and number line.

We will use the vocabulary related to addition and subtraction and symbols to describe and record addition and subtraction number sentences. We will also be introducing word problems.

We will name, recognise and know the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We will also learn the months of the years and the names of the seasons.

We will also be exploring role play and using money in real life situations.

Physical EducationDance will be on Monday afternoons.

On Tuesdays we will be continuing with gymnastics.

Thursday mornings we will be participating in tennis and archery with our SHINE coaches.

R.E.What is important to me? We will explore Christianity and Judaism and looking at who we are and what it means to be human. We will try to answer the questions: Where do I belong? (My school, home, family, tradition, cultures, organisations including those involving religion and belief, local community, the UK, the global community)

What am I worth? (linking to value in people)

How might stories, hymns, prayers help people understand more about themselves and their relationships?

Music Samba drumming will be on Wednesday afternoons. We will be learning about rhythm, tempo and we shall be developing our group performance piece by playing different melodies, playing in unison and following the conductor.

ScienceWe will be investigating the concept of living, our heart and pulse and how our bodies feel after exercise, our blood and pulse. We will be looking at the organs of the body and our skin, bones and muscles. This is will be linked to our PE curriculum.

We will also link this to our previous PSHE learning about healthy eating, our teeth and tooth decay.
