HEALTH INSURANCE
HIGH DEDUCTIBLE HEALTH PLAN (HDHP)
Benefit(s) of HDHP: High deductible health insurance plans typically cost less than traditionally lower deductible
coverage Offer substantial coverage for a wide range of services One deductible per family
Premium - amount of money that an individual and/or business must pay for an insurance policy. 14% of the premium paid by employee/86% paid by CWASD Premiums are pro-rated for less than fulltime
Deductible - the amount of expenses that must be paid out of pocket before an insurer will pay any expenses
Out of Pocket Maximum – the most that an employee will pay for medical expenses in a year
Co-insurance - Your share of the costs of a covered health care service, calculated as a percentage (our plan is 20%) of the allowed amount for the service. You pay coinsurance after you’ve met your deductible. For example, if the health insurance plan’s allowed amount for an office visit is $100 and you’ve met
your deductible, your 20% coinsurance payment would be $20. The health insurance plan pays the rest.

WAYS TO SAVE $ ON HEALTH CARE
WAYS TO SAVE $ ON HEALTH CARE
If you have not hit your deductible yet, ask for a cash price
Ask for a discount for servicesTake advantage of free screeningsPractice preventative careAsk a lot of questions.
Ask if test, procedure, etc. is necessary or are there less expensive alternatives
WAYS TO SAVE $ ON HEALTH CARE
Use in-network doctors and hospitals.
Health insurance companies negotiate discounted prices withdoctors and hospitals in their network. When you go out-of-network, your
insurer covers less of the cost.
Prescriptions: Ask your doctor to skip the brand names and write prescriptions for
generic drugs whenever possible If you take a medication on a regular basis,
getting a three-month supply and filling your RX by mail order could cut costs.
Shop around @ various pharmacies for prices on your prescriptions http://www.goodrx.com/
Know which drugs require prior authorization Have doctor write prescriptions for commonly used OTC medicines
(allergy, pain relievers, etc.) – you can then use HSA or FSA dollars to pay

Use StatDoctors™ Virtual Clinic Services

telehealth services from StatDoctorsTM. By phone or Internet, you get 24/7 access to board-certified physicians. Video consultations can be scheduled from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. Whether you’re at work or at home, StatDoctors physicians diagnose and treat

WAYS TO SAVE $ ON HEALTH CARE
Consider using an urgent care center before heading to the emergency room.
Sprains, burns, flu or strep throat can be handled at these centers at afraction of the cost.
Find out which urgent care center are in your insurer’s network before you need one.
WAYS TO SAVE $ ON HEALTH CARE
Review your medical bills and insurance statements
Medical experts estimate that 40% to 80% of bills contain mistakes. In fact, one of the most common errors is whenyour insurer flags your in-network doctor as beingout-of-network.
Deciphering statements can be difficult, given the codesand language used to describe procedures. If a claim is denied or the amount reimbursed is unexpectedly low, review bills with your insurance company and yourdoctor’s office.
WAYS TO SAVE $ ON HEALTH CARE
Shop around for medical procedures
The cost of low back pain surgery or cataract surgery can vary from one doctor to the next. healthcarebluebook.com lets you compare prices for procedures and surgeries by zip code.
Of course, cost alone shouldn’t guide your decision. You’ll want to check out the physician’s credentials – and be sure he or she participates in our insurer’s network.
