September 8, 2017—Meeting Summary
Presiding: Jim Cahill
Pledge: Barry Kaler
Prayer/Thought: Yoga Jim Cahill
Song Leader: Dick Marshall (America The Beautiful)
Door Prize/Raffle Valued at: $250: Ellen Kolarik pulled the 8 of Spades
Our Program: El Camino de Santiago
Member Paul Kolarik served as our guide along the historic Camino de Santi-
ago in Spain. Paul trekked the Camino along with his wife Ellen and their
daughter, who joined them to serve as a “porter” for 5 days and 60 miles of their
approximately 700 mile journey.
The Camino is also known as the “Way
of Saint James” is a network of pilgrims’
routes to the shrine of the apostle Saint
James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago
de Compostela in northwestern Spain.
Legend has it that the bones of St. James
were discovered in Santiago in 1492, and
the founding of a cathedral based on the site
of holy relics served as a rallying point in
the Catholic reconquest of Moorish Spain.
Paul’s lively photo presentation was augmented with some color commentary
from Past President Mark Engstrom, who only recently returned from a simi-
lar, albeit “five star”, Camino experience. Word has it that Member Lee Harris
also has some Camino—trekking stories to share. Dueling slide shows in
store???

deck, not the Joker, but the 8 of Spades. Ellen
wins a Free Lunch! The pot remains $250
Half to the Club and Half to the Winner!
About this football pool… We’re
almost to the halfway point in the season, so
it’s time to offer a “spiff”, to sweeten the pot,
so to speak. We’ll be awarding $25 to who-
ever has the most total correct picks for the
first half, and $50 to whoever has the most
correct for the second half. So, if you’re not
already in, here’s another reason to join in the
fun. Not only are you helping to support the
Club, you get to pit your wits against some
genuine football … locals. So, join in the fun
and fill out a pool. We take emails and
IOUS, so you really can’t miss the chance!
It’s a 3 Way
TIE!!

(at left) Kevin Bald-
win and Dustin
Dumars discuss what
it’s like to be young
Rotarians in a 69 year
old Club. These two
Members have done a
lot to bring down the
average age of the
Club, while bringing
up the average level
of cool. It might be
time for a new Club
Officer: Rotary
Wingman…?

More Fun and Games!
Rotarians rose to the challenge
once again, this time as we played
“What do you “love” about your
job. As before, the question pro-
voked some interesting responses,
although none of the contestants
went so far as to actually really say
just what their job is ...
(top left) Heine Roijker explains
the main benefit of his job is the
fact that they actually pay him …
somewhat regularly. If you doubt
him, just check out his new motor-
cycle, complete with a sidecar!
(top right) Kevin Baldwin de-
scribes the complete lack of bound-
aries that come along with working
at home and being his own boss.
(middle left) Jeff Post extolls the
virtues of whatever it is he does, for
a living, and manages to use the
word “nebulous” correctly. Word-
A-Day calendars are so usefuli-
tarian.
(lower left) Visiting Rotarian An-
gela Spease serves as our Human
Applause Meter, while Heine tries
to influence the outcome.
Membership Chair Tim Kwong
awards red badge holder Dustin
Dumars an important and official
looking Rotary Certificate.
Have you hugged a tree today??
Past President Ken Wilson wants
to talk to you about trees. Ken,
who has always been a bit of a tree-
hugger, is the District coordinator
for the RI President’s goal of one
tree planted for every Rotarian.
