Volume 9, Issue 1 Spring 2009
“Ready for Contact”
At least we think it is. The sun is shining and thesnow is melting. Time to plan for your visit to the
UP this summer. Also strongly consider going on the 46th’s cruise
in November. There is still room and we wouldlike to see you there.
Spring is here on the UP!
There is also the next reunion coming up in September of2010 in Marquette. Make an effort to contact anyone thatyou can and encourage them to come to Marquette. We
would especially like to see more from the later years of thesquadron, more of the ladies and more boomers.

From the DeFacto Editor:
“Spring has sprung, the grass is ris’, I wonder wherede birdies is?” Yes it appears that spring has finallycome to the UP after the snowiest March in years.

LET'S BUFF THE BUFF
With the completion of the renovation of the F-101 and F-106 the next project is the B-52Dthat is on static display at K.I.. We will start thissummer as soon as the weather is goodenough and hopefully complete the mainte-nance that is absolutely necessary to preservethe aircraft.
We estimate that the cost will be around$10,000 and so that is our fundraising goal. Anyand all donations will be appreciated and canbe sent to KISHAM at K.I. Sawyer Heritage AirMuseum, c/o The Elder Agency, 500 S. FrontSt., Marquette, MI 49855. Those donating $100or more will receive a color lithograph of the lastB-52H, tail number 60-0026, to leave Sawyer inNovember 1994. Those who wish to purchase alithograph may do so for $25 plus shipping andhandling if the item is mailed.
A second project for the summer is to move theT-33 from the hill by the Hospital to the areawhere the other aircraft are. More on this asthings come together.
There isn’t a lot of news to impart, but, Marquette isgetting a “round-about” at the intersection of S. FrontSt. and the US 41 bypass. Wonder how many thatwill confuse.
As you can see by the article on this page, the KI-SHAM is going to attempt to refurbish the B-52 thissummer. If you are in the area consider donatingsome of your time to the project, or dollars if not inthe area.
As President Bob says, Let’s encourage anyone weare in contact with to attend the cruise or at least thenext reunion. If you would like to know who livesnear you, just call or e-mail the Association and I willprovide the info. We always like to see old friendsand to meet new ones at the reunions. With any lucklate September in 2010 should be the peak of thecolor in the UP which is always something to enjoy.

Presidents Corner
I just happen to be enjoying the Florida sunshinefor a little while. I have talked to a number of theformer members of the squadron and they areplanning on attending the reunion next year. Iwould like to encourage everyone to touch basewith friends who were in the squadron and tourge them to come to Marquette to the reunion. Iam going to work especially on the boomers, anumber of whom live in the Marquette area.
We seem to get the folks from the ‘60’s at thereunions but few of those from the later years. Those of you who were in the squadron then,we would like to see you and meet you. Makean effort to come back to the UP.

Low FlightOh, I have slipped through swirling clouds of dust,
A few feet from the dirt,
I’ve flown the F-4 low enough
To make my bottom hurt,
I’ve flown in the desert, hills and valleys,
Mountains too,
Frolicked in the trees,
Where only flying squirrels flew.
Chased the frightened cows along,
Disturbed the ram and ewe,
And done a hundred other things
That you’d not care to do.
I’ve smacked the tiny sparrow,
Bluebird, robin , and all the rest,
I’ve ingested baby eagles,
Simply sucked them from their nest.
I’ve streaked through total darkness,
Just the other guys and me,
And spent the night in terror of
Things I could not see.
I’ve turned my eyes to heaven,
As I sweated through the flight,
Put out my hand and touched,
The Fire Warning Light.
