WHAT THE INDUSTRY SAYS......
Global air travel demand is
expected to double in the next 15 years,
led by faster growth in the Asia-Pacific region – the world’s largest
future aviation market. AAPA and its member airlines
will be at the forefront of these developments playing an important role in shaping
the future of the industry whilst serving the wider community.
Andrew HerdmanDirector General
Association of Asia Pacific Airlines
The international forecast for 2010-2011
for the Asia-Pacific region has been upgraded.
The region has experienced a rapid V-shaped recovery.
IATA (International Air Transport Association) increased its forecast profit for the region from US$5.2 billion to
US$8.9 billion in 2011. The recovery has been stronger and faster – for the region – than
anyone expected.
Giovanni BisignaniDirector General & CEO
International Air Transport Association
Randy TinsethVice President MarketingBoeing Commercial Airplanes
The Asia-Pacific will be the world’s largest
aviation market for the next 20 years, with a need for 8,960 aircraft seating 100 passengers or more costing US$1.1 trillion.”
Boeing said that more than 40% of traffic would begin, end or take place
in the region over the next two decades. The Asia-Pacific region,
including China, will hold a minimum
of 41% of the market – the
world leader as the world moves
out of global recession. Asia-Pacific airline traffic
is predicted to grow 6.5% a year from its current base
of carrying 1.2 million passengers a day.
Air freight business from the region
will also dominate the
world market with a forecast growth of 5.4% per year for the
next 20 years.

MAY 2011 HONG KONG✝INAUGURAL ASIA-PACIFIC ANCILLARY REVENUE SUMMIT 2011 Ancillary revenue is assuming a larger role in total revenue potential for airlines
in the Asia-Pacific, particularly in the low-cost carrier sector. Leading Asia-Pacific airline, AirAsia, has reported an 80% plus increase in ancillary revenue in 2010 and expect more growth in 2011. China’s Spring Airlines, the country’s only private carrier to have survived the global aviation recession, has a strategy for profit tied almost exclusively to increased ancillary revenues. We look at the providers that will enable airlines to profit from ancillary airline revenue and also examine the issues surrounding this controversial issue from an airlne and passenger perspective.
