Hi WesDans, Happy New Year and welcome back! I’ve just returned from American Astronomical Society meeDng inHonolulu this past week, where we enjoyed some amazing science (shown here with Dartmouthastronomers including West House grad student KaDe Weil, center) and I even got to try out somesurfing!

WesDan Shannon Sartain ’21 is an author of a publicaDon in the presDgious Proceedings of theNaDonal Academy of Sciences, studying the effects of gold mining on water clarity and dynamics inPeru. CongratulaDons!
WesDans played big roles in women’s basketball’s exciDng home win over Harvard yesterday. KaUeDouglas ‘22 knocked away Harvard's inbounds pass with 17 seconds lee and Annie McKenna ‘20 brokeaway for the winning layup, while Anna Luce ‘21 contributed eight points off the bench. Great win!

House Gear for this year is on the way! For those who ordered crewneck sweatshirts (including some funnew purple ones, in case you prefer those!) they will be available for pick up at the COMMUNITY DINNERON TUESDAY AT 6pm. If you don’t remember what you ordered last term, we’ll have a list available. We’reaiming for joggers and fleeces to be available at the following Community Dinner on Feb 4. - West House TRIPS Winter 2020
We’ve got some exciDng trips on the schedule this term:
We will be holding our first West House overnight trip to BOSTON on Saturday and SundayFebruary 15/16. We’ll leave early on Saturday and return Sunday late aeernoon, staying rightdowntown in the heart of historic Boston and checking out a number of the historical andcultural sights. Signup for the trip will open in the next couple weeks, with some preferencegiven to those acDve in House leadership, and those who didn’t make it on the NYC trip. Watchthis space for details!
We will be holding our annual West House ski trip on Saturday January 25th. The ski area isTBA – we’re looking into trying a new mountain aeer going to Cannon the last couple years. TheHouse will cover lie Dckets and (if needed) equipment rentals and lessons (beginners arewelcome!). We’ll also bring stuff to eat for lunch. Sign up for the trip (first come first served) willopen this week.

Our weekly Game Nights in Fahey Lounge will conDnue on Saturday Night in Fahey and Wednesday night inJudge, thanks to the Student AcDviDes Coordinators. We’ll have lots of fun games and the Snack Shack servesmilkshakes, chicken tenders, tater tots, etc. which you can get with West Bucks (you can pick some WestBucks up when you arrive).

It is that Dme of the year again to claim our righlul spot as Champions of IM basketball. The first gamewill be on Jan. 24th and will occur every Friday around 5pm unDl the Championship on Feb. 14th. Inorder to play, you do need to sign up on IM Leagues (imleagues.com/dartmouth) prior to the first game. Thehouse covers your cost to join using the code 20WWest. Please sign up as soon as possible since I plan tosend out follow-up emails to those interested in playing this term.

MeeDngs are usually on Sunday evenings in the Fahey downstairs lounge, with dinner delivered from localrestaurants. All West House members are encouraged to abend, members of the class of 2023 are especiallywelcome! - Free HOP Uckets West House has available free Uckets for House members to abend world-class performances at the HopkinsCenter each term. We’ve made some updates to how this works – rather than purchasing Dckets in advance,you’re free to request Dckets to any live performance (movies are not included) although some may be soldout or have limited availability. The rules are: (1) You must request Dckets for a group including at least two West House members, and (2)You must request Dckets from Pamela ([email protected]) at least two days in advance, andpick them up in her office in Fahey.
