As an art collector who is always interested in new art techniques, I am constantly looking for diff erent ways to make a painting and a sculpture. Throughout the years, my curiosity and research have led me to discover and meet very talented young artists, among them is Enzo Fiore whom I met over ten years ago at the inauguration of an exhibition in Cortina d’Ampezzo. At that time, I remember that I was totally captured by the black and white portrait of Frida Kahlo. Seen from a distance, it looked shaded and fl awed; yet a second glance revealed an extreme precise and detailed composition made out of stones, grass, leaves and insects. A real surprise – both on a technical and emotional level. Soon after I made my fi st purchase of his works, a beautiful two-meter portrait of Marilyn Monroe, which is still placed in the entrance hall of my house. Overtime, I had the pleasure of getting to know Enzo Fiore as both an artist and as the man he is who I am so fond of and I deeply value his approach and attitude together with his great artistic sensibility, which of course characterizes all true artists. Therefore, it brings my wife Giuseppina and I great pleasure to host this exhibition pertaining the work by such an immensely sensitive artist at our Concept Store in Lugano, Switzerland.

Stefano Contini

It brings me great pleasure and happiness that Enzo can exhibit a personal solo show in this magnifi cent and eccentric space. When I think of this extraordinary artist whose oeuvre is so unique, I am reminded of Alberto Giacometti. What unites them in particular is their unawareness of their own expressive greatness which, further elevates their brilliance.Through the use of resin and a mere insect, Enzo is able to give life and expressiveness to what he wants to convey and transmit with absolute geniality. Dearest Enzo, always remain yourself as you are and ever greater success will follow you throughout your career. With great aff ection,

Stefano Contini

The solo exhibition of Enzo Fiore entitled Nature and Inclusions presents a vast selection of artworks that accompany the viewer in a wonderous journey to retrace his modus operandi. A true excursion into the “poetic elements” of the artist departing from the representation of the myths of the present and the past, passing through his celebrated landscapes and arriving at his most recent creations: Inclusions. Disparate subjects linked by a single and imperishable theme: Nature, unique and undisputed, remains the true protagonist of all of Fiore’s oeuvre. Biological elements such as branches, roots and leaves, ground, moss and insects are elevated as sacred apparatus in the artist’s method. An organic world which in itself becomes the archetype of creative action, where the represented subject is not simply a copy of reality but rather an independent re-production that finds new expression in merging itself with nature and is celebrated as primordial matter which amalgamates everything. Though the work of Enzo Fiore is seemingly graphic and didactic, the viewer is beckoned to observe inti-mately and trace a tale which manifests the fragility of life. In fact, it is art in perpetual evolution, a micro-cosm of animal and plant elements that, only when combined together, define a shape. What is actually a lump of earth is transformed, for example into a freckle. A dry leaf sculpts the chiaroscuro of a cheekbone or the outline of a dome, a dry branch becomes a trickle of water and the pinnacle of a building, and upon closer examination, it manifests itself in the form of an insect. Biological elements, now at the end of their life cycle can find new expression on the canvas or on the table, combining to recreate yet again in the form of a shape. This is the miracle of the power and force of nature that is released through Fiore’s work.It is around this life-cycle of composition-decomposition-recreation that the artist-creator gives the view-er an active role of “delivering” an “infinite” and constantly changing work that is realized under the eye of the “seeing” the moment he “looks”. The exhibition offers various themes and cornerstones of the artist’s method of creation, all of which his visual poetry develops. Just as landscapes do, monuments become symbols of our consolidated collective imagination (such as the Taj Mahal, or the Parisian Apocalypse),

to the naturalistic disenchanted sceneries that manifest before our eyes into timeless imaginary spaces (Apocalypse Mont Saint Michel). The innate ability to reinterpret a known image and propose it again in a completely new language is the magic that the artist has mastered and presents to us. His wisdom enables a use of organic material that renders his output totally unique and therefore instantly discernable as an artist. The same can be said for the gallery of portraits of the icons from bygone to today, collectively presenting a compendium of faces that have marked the history of humanity in the political, musical, cinematographic and artistic sense, from Audrey Hepburn to Kennedy, from Bob Marley to Greta Garbo and many others. The intention to create a precise portrait results in forging the physical features of a subject, marking the wrinkles of expression, the motions of the soul and restores all the softness of the flesh through a swarm of insects, with plots of roots and twigs, vibrant leaves and the dust of ground. This journey around the poetic aesthetics of Enzo Fiore could not fail to reach the most recent series, Inclusions encompassing elegant compositions on either a white or black background, where nature tri-umphs in all its magnificence. It is here where famous characters and landscapes give way to completely self-referential natural compositions, it is nature that cites itself. The elements of the animal and plant world that are married within a thick layer of resin and appear as a further reflection and symbol of the transience of existence, that is between death and rebirth there is a perpetual cycle of mysterious regen-eration and metamorphosis. One could almost speak of an encyclopedic vocation that leads the artist to collect and catalog the infinite mirabilia of creation, something that could only be found in a study of wonders, a WunderKammer that traces and captures the circle of life in a single gaze. These compositions are in fact true representations of a moment, sealed in the resin in order to unleash that single and unique pulse of infinite life.It is an incessant relationship between micro and macro, black and white, death and rebirth, of beginning and end and collectively functioning as a series of duos that contain and symbolize the whole sense of the universe.

Enzo Fiore attualmente vive e lavora vicino a Milano.

After attending a specialized high school education in the visual arts in Milan, he received his diploma in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera under the guidance and mentorship of artist Luciano Fabro, a highly promiment sculptor, conceptual artist and writer associated with the Arte Povera movement. During the following years, Enzo dedicated his talents to the restoration of antique paintings as well as set design for theatre. This allowed him to develop great technical skills and cautious attention to detail which are some of the distinguishing features of his work.During the early 2000s, the artist participated in various group exhibitions as well as solo exhibtions throughout Italy. In 2006 Fiore took a decisive turning point in his career when he became well acquainted with gallery owner and art dealer Stefano Contini, with whom he started collaborating. Overtime, Contini gallery has exhibited numerous exhibitions by the artist both in Venice as well as in Cortina d’Ampezzo. This collaboration and exposure has consequently led to significant recognition and exhibitions both nationally and internationally.Since his artistic debut as an artist in 1997, Fiore has emerged as an esteemed artist known for his unique technique utilizing only organic material, such as musk, twigs, roots, soil, stones and resin. The artist finds his material in nature which he then uses to create his portraits, cityscapes and recreations of famous paintings which present a variety of compositions and forms suspended between reality and fantasy. The initial stage of his artistic method focuses on the theme of the portrait, presenting a new interpretation of iconic representations of celebrities and well-known public figures of our times, namely; Marilyn Monroe, Salvador Dalì; John Lennon, J. F. Kennedy and many others. In 2008 the artist began incorporating a variety of insects within the composition of his works. In his most recent series Inclusions his characterized by refined compositions where butterflies and natural elements have been embedded within a thick layer of resin. The highly detailed arrangement of the visual elements that compose his work together with his unique technique renders the art of Enzo Fiore instantly discernable within the national and international contemporary art scene. His works can be found in numerous private and public collections. The artist currently lives and works in Milan.
