THANK YOU FROM LOAVES AND FISHES! Thank you to all our bakers, servers and financial supporters! Our next Loaves & Fishes meal is September 9, 2012. We are still looking for a volunteer or volunteers to serve as Loaves and Fishes Coordinator(s) for Blessed Teresa. As a member of Loaves and Fishes, our parish sponsors two meals per year for the homeless/needy at the Hope Center in Waukesha. The coordinator organizes the volunteers to serve and prepare these meals. Contact Shaun Pavlic for more information @ (262) 751-9406 or the parish office.
FASTING NORMS In addition to choosing their own penitential practices, Catholics are also asked to observe the practices of fast & abstinence during the 40 days of Lent. The norms are as follows: a) Catholics who have celebrated their 14th birthday are bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent; b) Catholics 18 years of age and under 59 years of age are
bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. (The obligation of fasting ceases with the celebration of one’s 59th birthday.) c) On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other smaller meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. Catholics should not lightly excuse themselves from these prescribed minimal penitential practices.

February 12, 2012 Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time 5
Soon you can discover the rich heritage of the Catholic Church in an epic media experience. Word on Fire Catholic Ministries with Fr. Robert Barron offers a vision of the Catholic Faith, which has never before been seen. This vision seeks to explore through a global journey, the living culture of the Catholic Church. From the lands of the Bible, to the great shrines of Europe, to the shores and heartland of America, to the mysteries of Asia, to the rich landscapes of Latin America, to the beating heart of Africa and beyond, witness the passion and glory of the faith that claims over a billion of the earth’s people as its own. Come experience our faith as never before. Bring your family, friends, those who have left the Catholic faith. You won’t be disappointed. Mark your calendars! Come to any or all three topic sessions (for your convenience, we are presenting each topic on three different days of the week).
Word Made Flesh, true bread of heaven—
the mystery of the church’s sacrament & worship Monday, February 27th 4:30-5:30 p.m. in Clare Hall with refreshments—DVD Viewing Only
Tuesday, February 28th 8:45-10:15 a.m. Parish Center, with refreshments— DVD Viewing & Discussion with Fr. Tony
Wednesday, February 29th 7-8:30 p.m. In Clare Hall with light supper at 6:15 p.m. followed by DVD Viewing & Discussion
Fr. Barron explores the ancient practices of the Church’s worship that endure to this very day, and the notion that “all value is summed up in the liturgy, the supreme act by which we commune with God.” Considered by the Catholic Faith to be “the source and summit” of its identity and mission, the Eucharist is the central practice of the Church’s culture. Fr. Barron shows how the Sacred Liturgy embodies the whole of the Faith.
A Vast Company of Witnesses—The Communion of Saints Monday, March 12th 4:30-5:30 p.m. in Clare Hall with refreshments—DVD Viewing Only

Wednesday, March 14th 7-8:30 p.m. in Clare Hall with light supper at 6:15 p.m. followed by DVD Viewing & Discussion
The story of the Church is told in the examples of those men and women who dedicated their lives to knowing and serving Jesus Christ. The Catholic Faith is made visible in real human lives. Fr. Barron gives consideration to some of the Church’s greatest heroes, and demonstrates how their extraordinary examples display both the pas-sion and creative potential of the Catholic Church. Highlighting Katharine Drexel, Therese of Lisieux, Edith Stein, and Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, Fr. Barron tells the story of the Church as a vast company of witness who are called by Christ to be a Communion of Saints.

From our Liturgy & Music Consultant, Bill Erickson A ‘NEW’ HYMNAL AT A GREAT PRICE!
At Blessed Teresa parish we have used Breaking Bread, a paperback edition that is updated annually, and, for over twenty years, the early edition of a hardbound hymnal, Gather. Since its first printing (1988), this and other hymnals from the same publisher
have had several updates, usually versions that offer more choices to parishes in order to accommodate a growing number of composers and styles of accompaniment including - but not limited to - guitar or organ. In the last few months we added the newest Breaking Bread along with our Congregational Response cards as further aids to praying the Mass with new texts. When the newest books were added, we put aside the well worn Gather books to give us some time to focus on new words and also to decide whether a new supplement such as Gather would still be needed in the future, used only occasionally or discarded entirely. Last month, Allen Olson learned that a parish was making their older hymnals available free of charge and first-come-first-served to anyone interested in picking them up. We discovered that the books were the expanded version of a newer Gather, published in 1994, for which we have had only choir and instrumental editions for the past few years. On the weekend they were made available, Allen and Ellen along with family members and other generous helpers went to Holy Apostles parish in New Berlin, loaded a pick up truck with three dozen 35 pound boxes and delivered them to Zirbes hall where they were stored. Recently, Mary Jo Romportl coordinated a crew of Prayer and Worship Commission members to inspect, label and insert the newly acquired books in the pews at North Lake and Monches. It is thought that Gather Comprehensive, while not the newest version available, is a reasonable and very useful replacement supplement for the time being. The books are generally in very good condition, and the number of songs can expand our repertoire for use at Masses with contemporary groups as well as choirs and cantors. The editors describe this work as one which serves parishes “whose music programs tend to utilize a greater amount of contemporary ‘folk’ art music than classical organ-based music.. The mix is approximately 70-30.” While we currently use the sustaining support of electronic organs in both churches, and our mix or contemporary to classical is a about 50-50, we value the addition of a supplementary hymnal which has over 200 standard classical hymns. Although the new Roman Missal Mass responses (e.g. Gloria, Sanctus) are not contained in this book used, the numbers of other usable songs and hymns greatly expand our choices, add some songs new to us and also restore some of our favorite psalm settings and songs to our parish repertoire. Thanks to the staff at Holy Apostles, the generous offer of the Olsons and the committee organized by Mary Jo Romportl and our Prayer and Worship Commission for restoring an edition of Gather for our participation at Mass.
Thank you to our sponsor of the week:
