‘WhatsAppening?’: Best Practices in Assessing 21stCentury Workplace Communication Skills for Success
The poster will illustrate innovative practices in teaching 21st-century workplace communication skills to prepare for success in the labor market that I use in the Introduction to Communication Skills Course (COM 201) at PSU.
Abstract
Teaching and assessment strategies increase student’s awareness of the Saudi Vision 2030, helps them identify their dream jobs, and motivates them to connect their academic programs with their life-long passions.
Engage in a critical discussion about the type of social media used in their courses as well as the challenge with digital prints; especially as it relates to students’ future employability.
Assign practical assignments that require students to explore useful technology, connect it to their future jobs, and assess their interaction.
Social media (e.g., WhatsApp, Twitter, YouTube, TedX videos), virtual meeting tools (GotoMeeting), and academic resources to strategically enhance our students' workplace communication skills (e.g., CVs, job interviews, cover letters) and coach them to professional success.
