Why patient should know there rights ?
- Being hospitalized can be a very intimidating experience.
- Patients find themselves thrown into a foreign environment and often feel that they have very little or no control over what is happening to them.
- Dealing with an illness is stressful for patients - This stress is magnified by the busy and seemingly impersonal environment of the hospital.
- In this situation, patients often feel intimidated about voicing their concerns related to their care.

• Healthcare providers are expected to help patients be aware of and understand their rights .

• In addition, healthcare providers need to help patients understand their responsibilities as well as their rights.

• The patient has the following rights :
1 - The Right to Be Treated with Respect
• You have the right to be treated with respect and to have your privacy protected.
2 - The right to be informed
• All patients have an absolute right to an understandable explanation of their complete medical condition, recommended
treatment, expected results, risks and reasonable medical alternatives.

• The patient has the following rights :
3 - The right to ask about any thing related to their medical condition
• No patient’s question is a silly question. It is the doctor's obligation to help you fully understand all pertinent information
and to make your own informed decisions based on this knowledge..
4 -The Right to Obtain Your Medical Records
• In case if you want to resume the treatment plan else were or you want or take another doctor opinion .

• You have the right to have your information treated confidentially. ..
6 - The Right to Make a Treatment Choice
• As long as a patient is considered to be of sound mind, it is both his right and responsibility to know about the options available for treatment of his medical condition and then make the choice he feels is right for him.• This right is closely associated with the Right to Informed
Consent..

7 - The Right to Informed Consent
• No practitioner or facility that performs tests, procedures or treatments will do so without asking the patient or his guardian
to sign a form giving consent.
8 - The Right to Refuse Treatment
• A patient may refuse treatment as long as he is considered to be capable of making sound decisions, This includes the right to
refuse surgery.

“responsibilities”

• Among the patient’s responsibilities are:- To know and follow Health System rules- To cooperate with care providers- To notify their caregiver if they don’t understand
their diagnosis, treatment or prognosis- Respect the privacy of their roommate
- Be considerate of other patients as well as healthcare staff
- To accept financial obligations associated with their care

• We did a Questionnaire in KAUH wards to know the patients awareness of the hospital patient rights.

• After this research we came out with these recommendations: Give every patient a time and a paper
about the patient right and explain it to them in there language.
