We have a mix of news from our friends at St. Dominique
Church in Marigot, Haiti.

The livestock program continues to prosper. Based on a
report received in midJune, we are pleased to share that there
are now 206 total goats in the program, which represents 72%
growth from the original 120 goats provided by Good
Shepherd.

Because of the generosity of Good Shepherd donors, St.
Dominic started a village bank in May of 2019 that was
concluded in June of 2020. Thirtyone women received about
$200 each to start or improve their business. Twentynine
loans were repaid in full, with two loans still partially
outstanding. A new set of loans will be made soon to improve
the lives of other parishioners of St. Dominique.

Unfortunately, Father Levieille has reported that there is a
growing number of COVID19 cases among parishioners at
St. Dominque. Additionally, because of the pandemic and
recent political unrest, disruption of supply channels and
severe inflation has created a food security crisis throughout
Haiti, including in Marigot. Fr. Leveille has requested
assistance in purchasing bulk food items such as rice, beans,
cooking oil and spaghetti to be provided to parishioners on an
emergency basis. Good Shepherd will be providing
emergency relief to assist with this food crisis.

We will continue to provide you with updates. Thank you for
your continued support and prayers for our brothers and
sisters at St. Dominique. Father Leveille and the people of St.
Dominique send expressions of gratitude and prayers for the
health and safety of all their friends at Good Shepherd.

In the year 1251, in the town of Aylesford in England,
Our Lady appeared to St. Simon Stock, a Carmelite. She
handed him a brown woolen scapular and said, “This
shall be a privilege for you and all Carmelites, that
anyone dying in this habit shall not suffer eternal fire.”
In time, the Church extended this magnificent privilege
to all the laity who are willing to be invested in the
Brown Scapular of the Carmelites and who perpetually
wear it. If you are interested in Enrollment in the Brown
Scapular, contact Elyse Tweedie in the office at
8508931837.

and financial assistance to persons 60 years of
age or older who reside in Leon County and
live at or below the poverty level. A home
identified as the “Tatum House” has been purchased which
will provide a shelter for three elderly men. Currently one
gentleman resides there but the home will accommodate two
additional persons once the property is renovated. A small
dinning room table and chairs is needed. A power lawn
mower is also still needed. Volunteers with carpentry skills
are most welcome. Monetary assistance will also be greatly
appreciated. Contact Michael or Brenda Popp using numbers

Pastoral Care Call Project: Over the last
several months of isolation and social
distancing, our parish has been reaching out to
fellow parishioners through telephone calls to
check on families, gather prayer requests and
provide pastoral care. Thank you to the many
wonderful volunteers who have participated! It has been a
beautiful way to maintain and build community during this
difficult time. This project is continuing and if you are
interested in volunteering, please contact Elyse Tweedie at
8931837 or via email at [email protected]. May our
care and concern for each other shine as a bright light of
God’s love and presence in the world.

"La semilla sembrada entre espinas es la que escucha
la palabra, pero luego las preocupaciones del mundo
y el atractivo de las riquezas ahogan la palabra y no
da fruto". MATEO 13:22
¿Ahogan a Dios en tu vida el atractivo de las riquezas y
los bienes materiales? ¿Estás tan atrapado en actividades
terrenales que no tienes tiempo para Dios? La gratitud y
la generosidad son virtudes que debemos esforzarnos en
practicar a diario.
