The Church …

“Cardinals” actually advised & ruled

Just as the sun affected EVERYthing a person did in France… so to did the King

… Look at how much of our lives are controlled by Govt. regs.

Started as just the home of King Louis XIV… later turned into a “court” where Nobles (the aristocracy)… … upper class HAD to live … … … so King Louis XIV … could keep an eye on them … … show them who was boss

The Palace (Chateau) … was also a “show place”… a symbol of the nation’s power & prestige

Think about the meaning of our own “White House”… in our nation’s capital … Washington, D.C.

Not much power in the countryside… had to depend on the nobility & the Church … to carry out his orders … maintain control

The average person .. The poor French peasants …… in a way this almost sounds like the Church & it’s sale of “Indulgences”

BTW. These poor French peasants … will soon be called “the Third (3rd ) Estate”

In great debt … owed a LOT of $$$
