Search for a Title

We will first start out by searching for a movie by title. All title searches are done in the same manner. In the search

window type the title of the item you are looking for. If you do not know the exact title you can leave the search option

to “all words” and type what you know.

Here we are searching for Oz the Great & Powerful. Type title or keywords into the search window and press the search icon.

Here are our search results.

Click on the title of the item you

are interested in exploring

further. This will provide you with

more details.

At the bottom of the page you

will find how many copies we

have in our holdings, if they are

checked in or out and the

location.

Here you can see the item is

checked in. There is one copy

available and it will be located

with the DVDs under the letter O.

Keyword Search

Now let’s do a keyword search so we can learn more about how to explore the catalog. Return to the homepage by

clicking the home button. Here we are searching for items in the collection on “game programming.”

Here you see the results of our search. Viewing the results as a list you can quickly see what items are available and

where they are located. Clicking the title will provide you with more details.

Author Search

Now let’s try searching for books by a particular author. From our homepage we select the drop down menu and choose

“author” and in the search window type the name of the author.

In this case our results show us there are 3 titles by the author and the details of how many copies are available and

where they are located.

Clicking on the title of the items reveals further details. From this record you can learn that we have two copies of this

book. One is available in the film section at 808.23 22 and another copy is available in our reference section under

808.23. The copy in the general collection is presently checked out.

Browsing Collection

The last thing we will explore is browsing an entire collection of items. The most common request for a search like this is

“How do I see a list of all the DVDs you have?”

In the search window with “all words selected” search for “DVD.”

This search yielded 1,763 titles, in alphabetical order, the entire collection of DVDs that our library contains. You can

click through the search results to view what we have and what is available for check out.

If you have any difficulty finding an item please ask the library staff for assistance.
