Hemos regresado a la misa diaria que se ofrece todos los días, de lunes a viernes,

St. Clare of Assisi was born in Assisi on July 16, 1194. Tradition says her father was a wealthy representative of an ancient Roman family and her mother was a very devout woman belonging to the noble family of Fiumi.

As a young girl, Clare dedicated herself to prayer. At 18-years-old, she heard St. Francis of Assisi preach during a Lenten service in the church of San Giorgio and asked him to help her live according to the Gospel.

On Palm Sunday in 1212, Clare left her father's home and went to the chapel of the Porziuncula to meet with Francis. While there, Clare's hair was cut off and she was given a

plain robe and veil in exchange for her rich gown. Clare joined the convent of the Benedictine nuns of San Paulo, under Francis' orders. When her father found her and

attempted to force her back into his home, she refused and professed that she would have no other husband than Jesus Christ.

In order to give her the greater solitude she desired, Francis sent Clare to Sant' Angelo in Panzo, another Benedictine nuns monastery. Overtime, other

women joined them, wanting to also be brides of Jesus and live with no money. They became known as the "Poor Ladies of San Damiano." They all lived a simple life of austerity, seclusion from the world, and poverty, according to a Rule which Francis gave them as a Second Order. St. Clare and her sisters wore no shoes, ate no meat, lived in a poor house, and kept silent most of the time. Their lives consisted of manual labor and prayer. Yet, they were very happy, because Our Lord was close to them all the time. In 1224, an army of rough soldiers from Frederick II came to attack Assisi. Although very sick, Clare went out to meet

them with the Blessed Sacrament in her hands. She had the Blessed Sacrament placed at the wall where the enemies could see it. Then on her knees, she

begged God to save the Sisters. "O Lord, protect these Sisters whom I cannot protect now," she prayed. A voice

seemed to answer: "I will keep them always in My care." In that moment, a sudden fright struck the attackers and they fled as fast as they could without

harming anyone in Assisi. The Order of Poor Ladies was of cially changed to the Order of Saint Clare in 1263 by Pope Urban IV. St. Clare's feast day

is celebrated on August 11.

Santa Clara de Asís nació en Asís el 16 de julio de 1194. La tradición dice que su padre era un rico representante de una antigua familia romana y que su madre era una mujer muy devota perteneciente a la noble familia de Fiumi. Cuando era

niña, Clare se dedicó a la oración. A los 18 años, escuchó a San Francisco de Asís predicar durante un servicio de Cuaresma en la iglesia de San Giorgio y le pidió que la ayudara a vivir según el Evangelio.

El Domingo de Ramos de 1212, Clare salió de la casa de su padre y fue a la capilla de la Porziuncula para encontrarse con Francis. Mientras estaba allí, el cabello de Clare estaba cortado y le dieron una túnica y un velo a cambio de su rico vestido. Clara se unió al convento de las monjas benedictinas de San Paulo, bajo las órdenes de Francisco. Cuando su

padre la encontró e intentó obligarla a regresar a su casa, ella se negó y profesó que no tendría otro marido que Jesucristo.

Para darle la mayor soledad que deseaba, Francis envió a Clara a Sant 'Angelo en Panzo, otro monasterio benedictino de monjas. En el tiempo extra, otras mujeres se unieron a ellas, queriendo ser también novias de Jesús y vivir sin dinero.

Se hicieron conocidos como las "Pobres Damas de San Damiano". Todos vivieron una vida simple de austeridad, aislam-iento del mundo y pobreza, de acuerdo con una Regla que Francisco les dio como Segunda Orden. Santa Clara y sus

hermanas no usaban zapatos, no comían carne, vivían en una casa pobre y permanecían en silencio la mayor parte del tiempo. Sus vidas consistieron en trabajo manual y oración. Sin embargo, estaban muy felices, porque Nuestro Señor estaba cerca de ellos todo el tiempo. En 1224, un ejército de soldados rudos de Federico II vino a atacar Asís. Aunque muy enferma, Clare salió a su encuentro con el Santísimo Sacramento en sus manos. Tenía el Santísimo Sacramento colocado en la pared donde los enemigos podían verlo. Luego, de rodillas, le rogó a Dios que salvara a las Hermanas.

"Oh Señor, protege a estas Hermanas a las que no puedo proteger ahora", rezó. Una voz pareció responder: "Los man-tendré siempre bajo mi cuidado". En ese momento, un susto repentino golpeó a los atacantes y huyeron tan rápido co-mo pudieron sin dañar a nadie en Asís. La Orden de las Damas Pobres se cambió o cialmente a la Orden de Santa Clara

en 1263 por el Papa Urbano IV. El día de la esta de Santa Clara se celebra el 11 de agosto.

We want to congratulate Daniel Garcia who was ordained to the priesthood on Saturday,

August 8. Unfortunately because of the health crisis and the restrictions the County has put on us his First Mass will be limited to only his family. He will join us on Sunday,

the 16th to celebrate the 6 p.m. Mass and share in a reception sponsored by the parish council. To accommodate his First Mass, just

this Sunday, August 9, the regular 6 p.m. Mass will be at 5 p.m.

salud y las restricciones que el Condado nos ha impuesto, su Primera Misa se limitará solo a su familia. Se unirá a nosotros el domingo

16 para celebrar las 6 p.m. Misa y participación en una recepción patrocinada por el consejo parroquial. Para acomodar su Primera Misa, justamente este domingo 9 de agosto, el horario regular de las 6 p.m. La
