A social class/division that developed after the Civil War was sharecropping. Sharecropping was a system in which a landowner allows a tenant to use the land in return for a share of the crop produced on the land.

Ku Klux Klan: emerged following the civil war as America's first true terrorist group.

The Dedeemers: Democrats who wanted to control what goes on in the states government and keep the political power.

Societal values changed to make African Americans equal to white people. They were allowed to vote and run for elections, even though some people didn't allow it.

The sphere of influence changed from having the Confederate Nation to having one big nation combined.

Spheres of Influence: an area where foreign nations claim special rights and economic privileges.

The political scene was much different. Lincoln had been assassinated and the presidency passed into the hands of his VP, Andrew Jackson. Many congressmen believed that the South had been compromised and that the North’s position victory should be used to reform the south. The republicans dominated congress and took over the government, passing a series of acts that limited the power of the president and the Supreme Court. After this, they could pretty much act as they pleased.

Radical Republicans: believed that the Civil War had been fought over the moral issue of slavery.

A minority of the Republican party in 1865, the Radical Republicans came to dominate congress with their calls for significant political and legal change in the South.

The Civil War affected the nation’s economy in the North because of production. Although the South also produced war products, the economy was ruined because so many of the farmers were away in the confederate armies. So every type of food, clothing and other basics became scarce and the price went up. After the Civil War, the North’s economy saw a boom in the building of the railroads industry, commerce and the opening up of the west. The South’s economy was defeated/wrecked and had to be rebuilt. The freeing of the slaves further delayed the growth of the economy.

One inequality between the North and South was that during reconstruction, new spending on schools and the rebuilding of towns forced the Southern states to dramatically increase property tax rates. Which made many plantation owners lose their land because they didn’t pay the tax.

The shifts impacted Southern and Northern citizens differently. People(citizens) in the South were left homeless and without jobs or money because the economy of the South was in ruins. Also many Southerners were left with bitter feelings which later led to the formation of groups such as the KKK. Citizens in the North were impacted because of a boom in the Northern economy because of the industrialization and transportation/communication. For both the South and the North, inflation hit and the dollar increased in value but also wages did not immediately increase after the war which hurt many economically.

Korean War June 25, 1950 75,000 people fought in the war 5 million soldiers and civilians lost their lives during the war Ended July 1953  

 Similarities long/bloody war many people were killed both signed a treaty to end the war 

Civil War Tensions started spring of 1861 4 year war Bull Run, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and Vicksburg, and others Ended 1865 when Confederates surrendered some 620,000 of 2.4 million soldiers killed
