Junior Leader Uniform, 1981 to 1987
Junior Leaders, or ‘helpers under 17’ were involved in
Guiding for many years. They are first officially
recognized in the 1981 POR.
The official Junior Uniform consisted of:
• Skirt, Navy Blue, A-Line, official design
• Blouse, White, long-sleeved, official design
• Tie, White nylon square with blue maple leaves and
border (becomes a triangle in 1984)
• Shoes, Appropriate
• Stockings or Socks, Appropriate (1981-1984);
Stockings, Beige (1984-1987)
• Shoulder Bag, Navy Blue, Official Design (optional)
For Camp, Special Activities and Informal Occasions,
the following pieces could be worn in addition to
those above:
• Camp Hat, Blue, Official Design
• Short Shorts, Navy (1979-1982)
• Jamaica Shorts, Navy (1981-1984)
• Jogging Shorts, Copen Blue
• Pants, Navy
• Wrap Skirt, Blue
• Blouse, Blue and White Check, Short-sleeved
(change from zipper to open neck in 1983)
• Blouse, White, Short-sleeved (1981-1982)
• Cardigan, Navy (1981-1982)
• V-Neck Sweater, Blue (1981-1984)
• Knee Socks, Navy
A White T-Shirt with a scoop neck, cap sleeves and a
maple leaf motif in red on the left breast was offered
from 1982 to 1986, but was not considered official camp
uniform.
Junior Leader Uniforms, 1987-2004
A new mix-and-match uniform for Junior Leaders was
launched in 1987, consisting of the following options:
• Wrap Skirt, Navy Blue (1987-1999)
• Half-Circle Skirt, Navy Blue (1987-1998)
• Dirndl Skirt, White with Navy pinstripe (1989-1999)
• Button-Front Skirt, Navy Blue (1993-2004)
• A-Line Skirt, Navy Blue (1993-2001)
• Pants, Navy Blue, official design (1987-2001)
• Cargo Pants, Navy Blue (2000-2004)
• Blouse, White with Navy pinstripe, short– or long-
sleeved, official design
• Polo Shirt, White/Navy Striped
• Belt, Navy/White Stripe
• Belt, Navy Leather (1988-1995)
• Navy Tie with two white stripes (1987-2002)
• White Scarf with Navy Maple Leaves (2002-2004)
• Cardigan, Navy
• Sweatshirt, Navy with White Maple Leaf Motif
• Stockings, Neutral OR Knee Socks, Navy Blue
(1987-1992); Appropriate (1993-2004)
Shoes, Appropriate
For Camp and Unofficial Occasions, the following
pieces could be worn in addition to those above:
• Camp Hat, Navy (1987-1998); Bush Hat, Navy (1994
-1998); Bush Hat, Beige (1997-2004)
• Walking Shorts, Navy Blue (1987-1997)
• Pull-On Shorts, Navy Blue (1994-2004)
• Sweatpants, Navy Blue (1987-2002)
• Camp T-Shirt, Navy/White Striped (1993-2002)
• Turtleneck, White (1989-1993) (not official uniform,
1989-1991)
• Teen T-Shirts, Green, Yellow, Red, Grey (1999-
2004)
• Knee Socks, Navy Blue (1987-2001)
• Ankle Socks, Navy Blue (1993-2004)
Junior Leader Uniforms, 2004-2008
A new uniform for Junior Leaders was introduced in
2004. While it still offered options, they were greatly
reduced from the previous uniform:
• Light Blue Collared Shirt
• Light Blue Long-Sleeved Top
• Red Senior Branches T-Shirt
• Navy Cargo Pants (new style)
• White Scarf with Navy Maple Leaves (as introduced
in 2002)
Some optional items were retained:
• Bush Hat, Beige (2004-2006)
• Navy Pull-On Shorts, 2004-2006
• Navy Ankle Socks
And new optional items added:
• Navy Hoodie with Guides Canada across the chest,
two pockets, and a full zipper
• Navy Fleece Vest
• Camp Hat, Beige with Trefoil on front
One new item was added in 2006:
• Navy Pin Tab (2006-2008)
