    Our Lady of the Lake

Welcome to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Parish! We are delighted to have you pray with us and take part in our church family’s many activities. Please consider this resource guide as a reference for Mass times, office hours, staff listings, contact persons and phone numbers of the people who can help you get settled and involved to whatever extent you wish.

Our Lady of the Lake is blessed with active ministries driven by intentional disciples just like you. We welcome new insights and energy into all our ministries. Please step up when you are ready or when you are called upon to become one of our intentional disciples.

In this booklet and on line you will find a brief description of our many ministries; some of which serve our own parish needs and others that reach out into our community to address issues and concerns beyond our own. OLOL is a small, active, and committed parish and we warmly welcome you.

After you have studied these opportunities for involvement and prayerfully reflect on your ability to commit time and talent to a ministry, please complete one of “Our Lady of the Lake Stewardship Commitment” form, one per family, answering our Bishop’s and my call to the Diocesan Mutually Shared Vision and return the forms in the collection basket or mail to:

In joining the Catholic population of 5% in southwest Missouri, we pray you will be willing to read about our many ministries, how they

serve our parish and the Tri-Lakes area community.

The purpose of each ministry is to share information, support each other’s events, examine and respond to the needs of the parish and to invite parishioners into a greater participation in the life of the church and community. After reading this ministry information, pray and meditate, discerning how to best use your time, insights and energy. Determine which ministry or ministries would benefit from your gifts and talents, then contact the ministry leader(s) listed or the parish office at 417-334-2928.

MINISTRIES AT OUR LADY OF THE LAKE

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.

    Ministry Booklet 2018

Frequently Q & A about Ministries ~ How do I decide what to sign up for? The website contains a listing of most of the ministries at Our Lady of the Lake. As you read through the ministries, look for ministries that allow you to share your Time, Talent and Treasure. Gratefully we thank the Lord for the many and various gifts He has given us, in giving back to the Lord, look for those ministries that meet the passions of your spirit. If you would like more information on a ministry, please contact the Team Ministry Leader. †

Pray about the ministry to which you are being called.

Is everything at Our Lady of the Lake a ministry?

The church is a living breathing community of many stewards. In living Stewardship As a Way of Life, we “minister” in gratefulness and as the scripture directs … “love one another as I have loved you.” Ministering is performing services or giving things that are needed, so all activities at Our Lady of the Lake are a ministry of some kind. While some roles, such as Eucharistic Minister or Lector are traditional liturgical ministries, participating in service activities or on committees are forms of ministry also. †

Can I sign up for more than one ministry?

Yes, but be a good steward of your time. Many parishioners are already involved in more than one ministry. For example: someone could be a lector, a Parish Pastoral Council member and a volunteer worker at a fundraiser. The only limitations are those of time and available openings in the various ministries. We do have a desire to see as many parishioners as possible in ministries which they have expressed an interest. †

How will I know that my offer to become involved has been reviewed by someone?

If you contact the Team Ministry Leader through the website, an email will be sent to the parish office and the Team Leader and there will be a follow up from the parish office to the leader.

    • Each year we RE-commit to the ministries we are currently involved in, select different ministries and/or perhaps stop serving in a current ministry.

    • If you complete your Stewardship RE-Commitment form and continue with the same ministries, you will continue as you have been doing.

    • If you mark a “new” ministry, the Team Leader will contact you with information about the new ministry.

    • If you chose to stop serving in your current ministry you should let your Team Leader know of your decision.

Soon after we receive your completed Stewardship RE-Commitment form you should get an acknowledgment by email, mail or a phone call from the Team Ministry Leader who will discuss your interests with you. If they cannot reach you, they will leave a message. If they can’t reach you on the second attempt, they will wait for you to get in touch with them. It is our hope that you will quickly become involved in a ministry of your liking. If you have not been contacted, please feel free to contact the individual ministry leaders listed from the website. †

There are several members in my family who would like to sign up for ministries. Do we each need to contact the Team Ministry Leader through email?

Each year, each person is asked to complete a Stewardship RE-Commitment Form. With the On-Line form use the “Add Another Member” at the bottom of the form. Currently the printed forms will accommodate two adults and two children / youth. Extra copies are available at the Help Desk in the Gathering Space and in the Parish Office or you may photocopy the form. †

Is this the only time I will be able to sign up for something?

No. Throughout the year there are always opportunities for parishioners to become involved in various activities. The website, monthly and supplemental bulletins and announcements will highlight these activities. You can also contact the ministry coordinator for information on joining a ministry. †

My schedule does not permit me to attend many meetings. Is there something I could do at home?

There are a number of activities that could be done in your home. †

What if I am not sure about what I might want to become involved in and just need more information?

If you have questions or would like more information about the ministry, contact the Team Ministry Leader through the website or contact the parish office. †

I am already so involved in activities at Our Lady of the Lake, I can’t take on any more responsibility at this time. Should I still fill out a Stewardship RE-Commitment Form?

Yes, please fill out a Stewardship RE-Commitment Form marking your current involvement and any “new” ministry you are interested in. Plus the completed form helps in keeping the parish office records updated with current information. Be proud of your involvement and realize that part of good stewardship is knowing when you can’t take on any more. †

MINISTRY OF ADMINISTRATION: This Ministry encompasses the temporal needs of our Parish and serve in many different areas of parish daily life. They assist with the collection, counting and distribution of parish resources. Therefore, they are involved in fundraising, social action, clerical assistance and financial planning. We are so blessed in that our mortgage will be paid by the end of 2018. Our visitors have really helped us along the way in accomplishing what must have seemed an insurmountable task to those faithful leaders who took the leap of faith to build this beautiful church long ago. Now, WE are called to step forward and maintain this wonderful campus. Just as in our own homes, having no mortgage DOES NOT mean the bills will go away and nothing will need to be replaced, repaired or maintained.

The donations of the assembly at each Mass must be counted so the parish can use its resources responsibly to support parish ministries and help those in need plus meet our $20,000 a month mortgage payment. Parishioners are selected and trained to serve on a team to count the Sunday collection. †

The pastor, with the council’s combined efforts, looks at the ongoing financial needs of the parish, ministries and maintenance of the campus. FUNDRAISING MINISTRY:

The Fundraising Ministry is in charge of developing and carrying out fundraising events for our parish. Throughout a year’s time in a parish, there are many needs that arise. Most of these money issues deal with items that are not normally in our annual parish budget. In order to financially accomplish tasks that are outside of the normal parish budget, parishioners have joined together to sponsor various fundraisers. To get involved in these fundraisers, please watch the Sunday Bulletin or www.ollbranson.com. We welcome fundraising ideas and thoughts, please share your ideas with us! [email protected]

Our Spaghetti Lunch & Dinner is generally held in March. The first Spaghetti Dinner sponsored by the women of Our Lady of the Lake Parish was held in March 1962. This yearly tradition soon became the “spring event” for the community. The first Spaghetti dinner was deemed a great success as the women served approximately 400 people. March 2001, we extended hours to include lunch meals.

It not only reaps a significant amount of financial benefit for our parish, but also serves to bring our individual “Mass Families” together as one. It is also an outstanding community outreach. This is our opportunity to open our doors in welcome to not only our own parish members, but to the community at large. †

The Taste of the Town fundraiser replaced the Autumn Family Feast in October of 2017. It is a food-tasting/auction event (both silent and live auctions), created with the idea of raising funds for church ministries with minimal effort on the part of parishioners. It is entirely different from other fundraisers at Our Lady of the Lake in that only a small number of volunteers are required to make the event happen. Approximately 15 restaurants provide all the food and food service for the tasting event. A committee of six to eight parishioners plans and coordinates the event, including soliciting items for the auctions. Another six to eight volunteers are required for table and chair set up for the event.

The Taste of the Town serves a dual purpose – it brings parishioners together for the enjoyment of a fun evening together, while raising funds for the church ministries. The premier event was very successful, raising over $11,000 for the parish, and was enjoyed by the community as well as parishioners.

The Annual Spaghetti Day and Taste of the Town are our two largest fundraisers. The annual events reaches out to the parish and the community, serving 1,000 Spaghetti meals and a very enjoyable evening of socializing at Taste of the Town. To share the fun, the fellowship and the work, volunteers are needed from beginning to end to help in planning, advertising, set up, serving and cleanup. About eight weeks before each event, a planning meeting is held. Father has asked four Team Leaders to make a two year commitment. If you are interested in becoming a Team Leader or need additional information about the amount of involvement contact Joyce Arnold at 417-334-2928 ext 103. This design allows two people to go off each year with two experienced people remaining for the following year. Sign-up sheets are provided two weekends before the event in the Gathering Space for the volunteers needed to support the event’s set-up, serving, cleanup, etc. If you have an interest in being a Team Leader please, let us know by mid-January for the Spaghetti event. You will be invited to the planning meeting and receive the game plan before making your final decision!

Sponsorships and Corporate Sponsorships are open to anyone who would like to contribute to our spring and fall fund raiser. †

The Annual Arts & Crafts Festival is the opportunity for artists and crafters to come together and display their God-given talents in a three day show at the Parish Center. The Festival is held the second weekend in October.

It includes a three day Bake Sale sponsored by OLLY (Our Lady of the Lake Youth) with the support of Adult Team Members. And lunch is offered on site.

We are blessed by indoor booths plus outdoor booths, featuring an interesting variety and great selection of unique gifts, handcrafted items, one-of-a-kind, special occasion gifts, early Christmas shopping and much more. 3 DAYS of Shopping — F R E E Admission

The Office Ministry is a cooperative effort to accomplish the parish office objective of being a welcoming first face of Christ either in person or on the telephone. Office Ministers work with office staff members and the pastor.

The main responsibilities are answering the phone and greeting people. With such a variety of tasks within the Parish Office and so many ongoing activities within the Parish Community, there is invariably something that needs to be done. There is copying, folding pamphlets and brochures, preparing Welcome Packets for new parishioners, shredding papers, checking mailing lists, making phone calls and taking messages. Your assistance and service are always needed and greatly appreciated.

Stewardship As a Way of Life is put into action, through the Office Ministry. The Parish Office is normally open from 9:30 am — 3:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 9:30am to noon on Friday. You may schedule for a morning beginning at 9:30 am to Noon or an afternoon Noon to 3:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 9:30am to noon on Friday.

If you are interested in sharing your Time and Talent in an office setting, please think about becoming an office minister. There is training available and the information you will need is available at the front desk. Virtus training is required as an office volunteer, register on line at https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/reg_0.cfm?theme=0

If an office setting is not for you, help is always needed for mailing “Our Lady’s Messenger” newsletter six times a year, stewardship mailings and several other mailings. This is an open email invitation to join a group in sharing the “postal” work, fellowship and the guarantee of laughter. Let us know if you are interested in becoming an office minister or helping with the bulk mailings. †

The Stewardship Committee is a group of parish leaders (separate from the Parish Council and Finance Committee) who desire to encourage all parishioners to use their personal gifts of Time, Talent and Treasure and also increase their personal relationship with our Lord. The art of being a good steward forms each individual into the perfect pattern of Discipleship. This work of being a Disciple flows from the U.S. Bishops' pastoral letter on Stewardship. Downloadable PDF file at http://old.usccb.org/stewardship/disciplesresponse.pdf In using this document as a guide, the Stewardship Committee at Our Lady of the Lake encourages all of us as parishioners to grow spiritually, Biblically (conversion of heart) and in a lifestyle of service. MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATION: No foul language should come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for needed edification, that it may impart grace to those who hear. Eph 4:29

The core of any large parish, organization or group is its ability to get the word out to those who need to know. The Ministry of Communication asks for people who like to deal with the press, can proofread the bulletins or newsletters and can assist with the Parish website. There are many ways to help with the parish communications. If you have the desire to help please check the contacts below for more information

“Our Lady’s Messenger” is published and mailed six times a year: December/January, February/March, April/May, June/July, August/September and October/November. It is printed in color to showcase the many ministries of stewardship that are active in the ever changing life of the church. It contains information about the Liturgical Seasons, messages from our priest, upcoming events, items of interest, reports and photos of mission and youth trips, the joy of attending Catholic Neighborhood Cluster (gatherings) plus spotlights of our many ministries. All ministers are welcome to submit current information about their ministries. The deadline for Our Lady’s Messenger is the 15th of January, March, May, July, September and November. MINISTRY OF FAITH FORMATION: The aim of this instruction is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith. I Timothy 1:5

The heart of the steward’s response as a disciple is to share what they have received with a generous, loving and grateful heart. Each of us has the need to give. Each of us wants to be LESS SELFISH and more SELFLESS. Faith Formation is a journey of a lifetime, a journey of conversion. It is a daunting task requiring the education of the mind and heart for all ages.

Catechists are the men and women who volunteer their time and energy in sharing the Good News with our parish members who are examples for our parish children and youth as people who are living their Catholic Faith as followers of Christ.

As active participants in our parish, Catechists recognize the need for their own personal spiritual growth and nourishment and particpate in opportunities for this development.

The key goals of Coffee & Christ are to connect the Christian story to one’s personal experiences and to actualize the Christian faith in one’s culture and society. Is there a topic, subject, special interest, questions you would like addressed? If so, please let us know or join in the planning! Check the website and Sunday bulletin for current and upcoming schedules. You are challenged to attend at least two spiritual growth opportunities each quarter! †

Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) is an effective renewal process which calls together the members of the parish, priests, religious, and laity in order to experience conversion and Christian community in the environment of our own parish.

The process begins with an overnight retreat for all parishioners, ages 18 and over, in our own Parish Center. The two day retreat is an opportunity to hear and discuss how we live as Catholics in our modern, complex, fast-paced society. We will have time of prayer, small group sharing, and personal reflection giving us the opportunity to respond to a closer relationship with Christ. †

    • Participants from our parish from prior retreat weekends will be invited to become part of the team to plan and present future CRHP retreat weekends.

    • Check with the lead person for the yearly retreat dates.

The average age for reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist is seven years or older. In our parish preparation for First Sacraments is a two year process: First Sacraments Year One and First Sacraments Year Two.

Children age 6 – 8 may enter “First Sacraments Year One” in the fall semester. This class may be composed of children in Grades 1 through 3rd. Completion of “First Sacraments Year One” is required to enter into “First Sacraments Year Two”. “First Sacraments Year Two” may be composed of children in Grades 2 through 4th.

“First Sacraments Year One” will focus on developing a better understanding of our faith community, learning the traditional Catholic prayers and developing a better understanding of the Mass.

“First Sacraments Year Two” will expand the focus on the Mass and traditional Catholic Prayers as well as include lessons specific to the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Children in “First Sacraments Year Two” will be prepared to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time during the season of Lent and to celebrate First Eucharist in late spring. Participation in a morning retreat for parents and children in this class is required. This retreat will be scheduled during the spring.

For children/youth in Grades 4 and above who have missed First Sacrament preparation, the following policy is in effect:

Children must attend one year of regular PSR prior to entering into the First Sacrament Preparation process. For example, a child who is in Grade 4 and has not attended PSR in previous years, must attend 4th Grade PSR in the current year to be entered into Sacramental Preparation during the next year.

Older children who are entering into Sacramental Preparation are required to attend their regularly scheduled PSR class for the appropriate grade level as well as attend a separate Sacramental Preparation class. The time of this class for older children will be determined based on the family situations. Children in this class will be prepared to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time during Lent and to participate in the Sacrament of Eucharist in the late spring. †

Our Lady Celebrates Youth is an annual Youth Event hosted by our parish for young people in grades 7th – 12th during the second weekend of September. Youth from across our diocese, as well neighboring dioceses are invited to participate in this weekend celebration. As part of our call to ministry and stewardship, OLLY and supporting adults plan, prepare and lead this event. Each year we invite nationally known presenters to speak to our young people on a variety of relevant topics. We gather together in prayer, reflection, conversation, meals and fun as we celebrate our Young Church. Planning for Our Lady Celebrates youth begins in January. Adults and high school youth are encouraged to participate in one or more of the planning roles. Adult volunteers are required to participate in Virtus training sessions. See page 27 for details. †

PSR provides faith formation opportunities for the children and youth of our parish family. PSR classes begin with a kindergarten class and continue through 12th grade. The mission of PSR is to foster the growth of faith in our children through participation in an environment that seeks to awaken a desire to know more about our beliefs and practices and especially to encourage conversion to Christ. Our program is designed to assist parents in their mission to pass on the faith to their children by reinforcing the primary Catholic Christian values of the family.

For PSR to be successful, the support of the entire parish family is needed. We are especially grateful for those men and women who willingly give of themselves to serve as Catechists. Catechists are among our greatest assets. They serve as examples to our parish children and youth of people who are living their Catholic faith as followers of Christ. Catechists “teach as Jesus taught” through personal witness and their love of our children. Virtus training is required for Catechists, Catechist Helpers, Aides and Substitutes, see page 27.

In compliance with the mandate of the USCCB to provide a safe environment for children, all parish members participate in a Safe Environment workshop and complete a background check see page 27.

The PSR calendar year begins during the third week of September and ends during the third week of May. Currently, K — 5th Grade PSR classes meet on Sunday mornings 9:00 am — 10:15 am. 6th — 12th Grade PSR classes meet on Wednesday evenings 6:30 pm — 8:00 pm. †

The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization of Catholic men founded in New Haven, Connecticut in 1882 by a parish priest, Fr. Michael J. McGivney. Fr. McGivney saw a need for an organization to serve the Church and community. The basic principles started in 1882 still prevail today: charity - to share our time, talents and treasures with those in need; unity – to work together to accomplish deeds not achievable individually; fraternity – to aid our brothers and their families – to aid and show concern for them in times of need; patriotism – to serve and honor our Church, country and community. Today that holds true of the 1.8 Million Knights of Columbus members worldwide.

The local council was chartered in 1973 and still works to provide charity to the Church and community in Branson. We are fortified by our long history and driven by our goals for the future to practice and support our faith, be involved in our community, cherish and protect our families, be a positive influence on youth and enjoy the fellowship of our organization. Memberships requires the applicant be a practicing Catholic male, 18 years of age or older. Meeting are monthly in the lower level of the Church.

K of C Council #6470 of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church not only supports our Seminarians but also supports: Special Olympics, College Scholarships, Youth Free Throw Contest, Roses for Life, Bowl-A-Thon for the Kitchen in Springfield … and many more parish & community activities. †

Throughout most of the year, our parishioners are far outnumbered by tourists. Since we tend to go to the same Mass each weekend and sit in the same section of church, we see only a few familiar faces among a sea of visitors.

Wouldn't it be nice to have more time for fellowship among our parishioners? There is nothing more heartwarming than sharing experiences, memories, laughs and food (of course, there’s always food!) with friends and that’s the idea behind SOS*. It is an opportunity for us to meet and greet other parishioners and develop new friendships within our parish family.

The SOS* group has enjoyed many wonderful get-togethers. We try to have a monthly social where we share food, conversation and maybe a game or a movie. Usually we gather right here at church or occasionally we will meet at one of our Branson attractions. We invite you to join us. If you are one of our Over-50 parishioners, please watch the bulletin and then phone to tell us you'll be coming to our next get-together. †

MINISTRY OF WORSHIP & SPIRITUALITY: …but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and playing to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the father. Eph5:18-20

These are the ministries of parish liturgy and music. Their goal is to provide the best possible experience of worship and foster community by encouraging full, active, and conscious participation in liturgical celebrations, which lead the community to evangelize and to live lives in imitation of Christ. These ministries provide nearly 90 volunteers each weekend so we can prayerfully host the 2,500 to 3,000 Parishioners-For-A-Day whom we are pleased to welcome to our House of Prayer. This ministry includes those who pray for special requests and carry the Blessed Sacrament to our homebound giving them a continuing sense of belonging even though unable to be physically present.

LITURGICAL MINISTRY: Divisional Leaders will work to encourage all from our parish community to grow in relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ through the Blessed Eucharistic Adoration. Adoration takes place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the Saint Teresa of Calcutta Chapel. The goal is to increase the dedication of our parish’s participation in the prayer life of the Church and our growth in holiness through love and devotion to Jesus. †

For more information on how you can get involved with Adoration, please feel free to contact the Divisional Leaders below:

These ministers take home the purificators and corporals used at every Mass and properly launder and iron them. The care of the altar linens, which embrace the Body and the Blood of Christ, is a very special ministry and we can always use additional volunteers. †

“Singing is the sign of the heart’s joy” (General Instruction of the Roman Missal 39)

While EVERYONE is encouraged to sing at Mass, some members may feel called to a deeper sense of involvement. It is for this reason the Music Ministry at Our Lady of the Lake exists. Musical accompanying, cantors, music ensembles and seasonal choirs all support the sung prayer of the Church.

Our Lady of the Lake is a very unique and wonderful Catholic Community. Though we are a “small” parish, we have the

privilege of joining with sometimes more than 2,500 visiting Catholics every weekend! We feel it is our calling to provide the best liturgical experience that we can. Because we do have so many who come to worship with us, we feel it is important not only to offer good liturgical music, but also to make sure that music is familiar and sing able to each congregation.

We currently have four Masses each weekend (three in English, one in Spanish). Music is part of each one of these Masses. We use many different resources and sing different genres of music, from standard hymns to contemporary Christian songs. All voice parts are needed, as well as musicians (guitarists, drummers, percussionists, etc.). The ability to read music is a plus, but it is not necessary; just a good ear, an ability to carry a tune and a willingness to learn!

Also, a part of this ministry is the actual planning of the liturgical music. This group is a collaborative effort of those involved in music ministry and other parishioners who are interested. These planning sessions meet every five to six weeks to pray and plan our music for Mass. This group also explores the future of Music Ministry and gives feedback to the pastoral leaders of the parish regarding our liturgies.

If you feel called to ministry through music, especially if you have previously been a choir member or instrumentalist, we invite you to become involved in our Music Ministry. Virtus training is required for those wishing to join the music ministry, see page 27. ♫

The Prayer Shawl Ministry reaches out to those in need of comfort during times of loss and stress or in joy to celebrate births, marriages, ordinations and birthdays. This ministry dates back centuries and is symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving God. A prayer shawl may be machine or hand knitted, crocheted, quilted or woven. The shawl maker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient. These prayers continue throughout the creation of the shawl and culminate in a final blessing before it is given.

In today’s hectic world would it not be a comfort, a thrill and a holy thing to wrap yourself in your prayer shawl. This could be a physical manifestation of your tent meeting, your prayer closet and your marriage canopy. Thank Yahweh when you put on your prayer shawl… maybe with the traditional blessing of, “Blessed are You, O Lord, my God, King of the Universe, who has given me my prayer shawl in which to meet you.”

If you have the calling to join this group, even if you do not knit or crochet (we are happy to help you learn), please join in the blessing of the prayer shawls usually after the First Friday Mass. †

    Safe Environment Training

Our Lady of the Lake periodically holds training sessions for Safe Environment. The safety of our children in the parish environment is of the utmost importance. ALL members of the parish family are not only invited, but are encouraged to attend a training session.

Parents are also strongly encouraged to attend the Safe Environment Training. As parents, you are asked to volunteer in a number of ways with the children and youth of the parish. Parents who may be asked to travel with our youth for conferences and other special events are required to have completed the Safe Environment Training.

    What are the VIRTUS® programs?

VIRTUS is the brand name that identifies best practices programs designed to help prevent wrongdoing and promote “rightdoing” within religious organizations. The VIRTUS programs empower organizations and people to better control risk and improve the lives of all those who interact with the Church.

    Who created the VIRTUS programs?

The National Catholic Risk Retention Group, Inc. (National Catholic) created the programs. Monsignor Kevin McCoy, past board chairman of National Catholic, asked whether child sexual abuse could be prevented and, if so, how? In March of 1998, National Catholic invited prominent national experts — experts in many disciplines — to discuss these questions at a forum in Washington, D.C. From those discussions, the initiative for the VIRTUS programs was created. The National Catholic Board of Directors was selected as an Ad Hoc Committee to oversee development of the programs. The Ad Hoc Committee was assisted by a steering committee of nationally known experts and program and service providers.

Why did National Catholic select VIRTUS as the brand name for the programs?

The word virtus derives from Latin, and means valor, moral strength, excellence and worth. In ancient times, virtus denoted a way of life and manner of behavior that always aspired to the highest, most positive attributes of people and aspects of human interaction. Guidelines for the Reception of Communion

We welcome you to this celebration of the Eucharist. As

Catholics, we are encouraged to receive Communion devoutly

and frequently. Participants in Holy Communion should be

properly disposed, which means they are not conscious of any

grave sin and normally should have fasted for one hour.

If a person who is conscious of grave sin receives the

Body and Blood of the Lord without prior sacramental confession,

they are to be mindful of the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition (found below),

and include the intention of confessing to a priest as soon as possible. Frequent participation

in the Sacrament of Penance is strongly encouraged for all.

All are welcome to attend Mass. Ordinarily, non-Catholics are not admitted to communion

because this would imply a oneness of belief which does not yet exist. If you are a non-

Catholic (or a Catholic who is not properly disposed to receive communion), you are invited to

come forward in the communion procession with arms crossed over your heart to receive a

blessing and to pray the Spiritual Communion Prayer found below. †

    Spiritual Communion Prayer

Lord Jesus, since I cannot at this moment receive you in the sacrament, I invite you to come

at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself

wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. †

    Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all of my sins because I

dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend You, my

God, who is all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace,

to sin no more, to do penance and to avoid the near occasion of sin. †
