Through Him, and With Him, and In Him (Part II)
So Jesus is how we approach the Father. Just like we can only
see the distant constellations in the night sky by peering through a
telescope, we only draw near to the Father through Christ. But
He’s not only the One Who mediates our relationship with the
Father, like a hired translator who takes what we say in one lan-
guage and renders it into another language for someone else, so
that two parties who don’t speak each other’s tongues can com-
municate with one another. Jesus is also our brother and our
friend, giving praise to the Father alongside of us.
With Him: our unique identy of who we are isn’t swallowed
up by Christ. Our consciousness, our individual personality re-
mains itselfwe remain who we are; our personality is perfected
by our union with Christ, not annihilated. This is especially im-
portant for us to bear in mind now, surrounded as we are with
newage spirituality, which asserts that union with the divine re-
quires our individuality to dissolve into a collective. But Christi-
anity maintains something altogether different. That uniqueness
which is each one of us, singularly created to be a special aspect
of the image and likeness of God, isn’t destroyed by our union
with Christ; it is purified. And so our voiceunique and singu-
laris joined with Christ’s and with all the saints in the great
hymn of praise that sings God’s glory.
At the Last Supper, Jesus elevates His disciples to a new level
of dignity. “I no longer call you slaves,” He tells them; “because a
slave does not know what his master is doing. I call you friends,
because I have made known to you everything that I heard from
My Father.” St. Paul echoes this: “you are no longer slaves but
children, and if a child then also an heir.” By our baptism, we
have been made children of God, through our faith in Christ, and
also with Him. And because of this we have become “heirs of
God and joint heirs with Christ,” to again quote St. Paul, we give
glory to God in unison with all our coheirs.
St. Irenaeus says that the glory of God is man fully alive. To
be fully alive means to be perfectly ourselves, in our individual
uniqueness, but at the same time bonded in communion with each
other and with our God. Through the Godman Christ we have
become God’s children, and as God’s children we enjoy the privi-
leges of divine sonship along with Christ. And together we mag-
nify the praises of God our Father. All glory and honor be His
with Christ our Lord!

A nossa consciência e a nossa personalidade
altamos glórias a Deus nosso Pai. Toda a glória e honra seja com
cristo Nosso Senhor!

YOUR GUIDANCE IS NEEDED!
We have been thinking about starting a health minis-
try at St. Mike’s. To help us to decide, we would like
to know if you think one is needed and, if so, what
types of specific supports it should/could provide.
During the month of September a brief survey will
be in the bulletin and on the website to ask parish-
ioners for their guidance on this question. So please
look for the survey, complete it and let us know what
you think. The completed survey can be put in the
collection basket or mailed/dropped off at the parish
center.

FALL PREVENTION FOR THE FALL
Falls are the leading cause of unintentional injury.
They can occur at anytime and anywhere and usually
occur when people are engaged in their everyday ac-
tivities. Approximately 25% of older folks fall each
year.
Many falls do not cause injuries but one out of five
falls does cause a serious injury. These injuries can
make it hard for a person to get around and to main-
tain their independence in everyday activities.
Falls can cause broken bones, such as leg and hip
fractures. Falls can also cause head injuries. Head
injuries (sometimes called brain injuries) can be very
serious. An older person who falls and hits their head
should see their doctor right away to make sure they
don’t have a brain injury.
Many people who fall, even if they’re not injured,
become afraid of falling. This fear may cause a per-
son to cut down on their everyday activities. When a
person is less active, they become weaker and this
increases their chances of falling.
Most falls can be prevented
Prevention Tips:
Older individuals should have a regular screening
by their health care provider to monitor their
gait and assess for balance issues. In addition,
their medications should be reviewed to de-
termine if they could cause weakness, dizzi-
ness etc.
Everyone should have a regular assessment of
their eyesight by an eye specialist and update
their eyeglasses/contacts, as needed.
Lighting lots of light and brighter bulbs, espe-
cially in hallways and on stairs can prevent
accidents.
Footwear wear well fitting, low heeled shoes
are safest.
Exercise is important, activities to maintain
and/or improve strength, flexibility, endur-
ance and balance, i.e. tai chi, yoga, walking
etc.
Home Safety avoid clutter and things that you
can trip on, remove scatter rugs and other
tripping hazards, install safety devices such as
handrails, shower mats and grab bars

funding a scholarship

The cost of catechizing one student for a

benefits from your kindness will be anony-

Sharing the Gospel
If you act bossy, you might get your way, but you won't
make many friends. Jesus shared a secret about making
friends. When you treat other kids with kindness, they
will want to be your friends. Instead of telling other kids
what to do, ask other kids to choose a game. If you want
to play tag with other kids, offer to be "it" first. If it is
time to line up to go outside, offer to go to the back of the
