Greetings,
We have had a fantastic January as we close out the month. People have been especially drawn to
worship this month. With the exception of our “snow day” on the 17th, we have averaged seeing
over 420 worshipers every Sunday this year as we finish our five Sunday month. That is well ahead
of last year’s average of 371. We also had quite a turnout with 40 men who attended our Ironmen
Conference in Emporia on January 23rd. It was great to be together with so many fellow brothers in
Christ. Our two new sermon series have gotten off to a good start on Sundays and Wednesday
nights. Philippians has been such an uplifting book to study and read, and First Thessalonians has
really been an informative look into the life and ministry of the early church. I’ve enjoyed adding
some extra background material in my Word for the Week.
Speaking of studies, it is hard to believe that in just three week
we will be kicking off our Winter/Spring Semester of Life Uni-
versity that will start on February 21st at 6:00 p.m. We really
have a great line-up of classes for you to choose from this
year. A brochure will be in the bulletin this coming Sunday
with a full description of all of the classes including: Old Testament Overview, Christian History
Made Easy, How To Make Disciples, Children’s Bible Drill, Nursery, and The Journey Class on alter-
nating Monday nights. For a complete description, see page 6 of this newsletter under Brent’s article
entitled “To Equip the Saints”.
The construction of the new worship center has picked up a few notches as the
workers are quickly completing the framing of the steel structure to the auditori-
um. It really looks impressive and the excitement is already generating a lot of
questions and positive comments from the community. In many ways, our build-
ing will be witness to those around us. After the framing is complete, the build-
ers will begin drying it in as they put up the roofing and the siding. We have re-
ceived $277,557.31 into the building fund as of January 24th. We are starting to
pay more and more bills to the contractors, so remember that the more we can give now, the less we
will have to borrow later when we finish the project. A little given each Sunday from all of us can go
a long way. I keep hearing comments from some of our newer members saying how excited they are
to see all of this construction. Many are not aware of the fact that we are building a new auditori-
um. If you would like more information about our Building for Life Campaign and project, come by
the church office and pick up a brochure or call our Campaign Follow-up Director, Cheryl Plummer,
and she will be glad to share with you more about all that we are doing (660) 441-0190.
We will be having a special Valentine’s Event on Wednesday night, February
10th in the Family Life Center with a Roast Beef Dinner and fun time togeth-
Page 3
er following the meal. This year Pastor Brent will be leading us in a church wide game of Bible Triv-
ia. We will be competing “table against table” and it will not only be a fun event, but an educational
one as well. Don’t miss out!
Attention All Men: As a follow up to our Ironmen Confer-
ence, our Men’s Ministry will be having a Men’s Breakfast on
Saturday, February 13th at 8:00 a.m. in the Family Life Cen-
ter. We will be having a great breakfast together followed up
by a time of fellowship and sharing. All men are encouraged
to come.
Deacon Training/Prayer Event: All of our deacons are encouraged to attended our Annual Train-
ing Event on February 5-6. We will be kicking the evening off
Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and finishing Saturday at noon. Yes,
we will break to go home and sleep. lol. If you are an active dea-
con or even an inactive deacon, we encourage you to come and
join this special time of training and fellowship. If you have a
special prayer request or need, please write it down on a note card and turn it into the church office
or one of our deacons, and we will pray for that need during our Deacon Training.
Let us all be sensitive to the leadership of the Holy Spirit as we listen to Him this month in sharing
our faith with others as many open doors of conversation will open through people asking about our
church and what we are building etc.
Blessing in the month a head,
Pastor Randy

Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing
dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested;
and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.” - 1 Timothy 3:8-10

In my studies this month, I ran across an excellent article about
worship and would like to share the first of five portions of it
with you this month. The article is titled, “Defining Worship”
written by Bob Kauflin, a songwriter, vocalist and producer, working at Sovereign Grace Church, Louisville,
KY.
While the worship of God may refer to the highest privilege given to humans, the actual word "worship" is subject to the same weakness as any other word -- the more we use it, the less it usually means. We all
think we know what others mean when they speak of "worship," but the truth is we can't be quite sure.
"Worship" might be the word someone chooses when trying to describe a particular sound or style of mu-sic. Depending on the speaker it can be anything from guitar-driven pop songs to boomer-friendly light
rock to classic hymns. Many churches call a Sunday morning service, or perhaps a portion of that meet-ing, "worship."
Another way we use the word "worship" is in describing someone who is unusually expressive when sing-
ing praise to God. We might say, "She's a real worshiper." In that instance, "worship" refers to degrees of bodily movement or expressiveness. With the "worship explosion" of the past decade, marketers have real-
ized that including "worship" in the title of a project is an effective marketing tool that often boosts sales. Others recoil at that thought, believing that "worship" really means intimacy with God.
Obviously, we need to take time to sort through these very different views of what worship really is. After
all, worship is God's idea. It's what He created us to do. Theologian David Peterson comments, "We have enough how-to-do-it books and not enough reflection on worship as a total biblical idea. Worship is a sub-
ject that should dominate our lives seven days a week. (Engaging with God - A Biblical Theology of Wor-ship, p. 21)
In my study of Scripture, I've found at least five distinct concepts that Scripture attaches to worship: exal-
tation, expression, encounter, event, and everyday. Each one reflects a unique way in which God intends for us to use and understand the reality behind this word. While not exhaustive, this list gives us a basic
foundation for how we should view worship. Not every passage we'll look at in this series includes the word "worship," but that's simply because the Bible employs a variety of ways to refer to it.
Worship is first and foremost exaltation. The Hebrew and Greek words in the Bible that we translate as
"worship" most often communicate an attitude of reverence, submission, and homage. In the act of wor-ship, we are by definition acknowledging that someone or something else is above us and worthy of our
affection, attention and adoration.
Biblical worship, then, involves exalting God above all other objects. This can be done directly, as in Exo-dus 15:2, where the Israelites declared, "The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my
salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him" (ESV). We see here, as in many other passages, that worship is about proclaiming the greatness of God's attributes, the
splendor of His works, and His absolute claim on our lives.
Other times, our non-verbal actions and responses exalt God and reflect the essence of worship. We're
Page 5
told that Job fell to the ground and worshiped God when he heard that his home, possessions, and family had been destroyed (Job 1:21) By his actions he was exalting God's sovereignty and wisdom above his own
understanding. When Mary anointed Jesus' feet with costly perfume in John 12 she modeled worship by exalting her love for the Savior above the world's monetary value system.
At its heart, worship involves the exaltation of all that God is and does.
Next month I will share the portion of the above article which shows “worship
as expression”. Until then, I encourage you to join me in doing my best to
exhalt God.
In His Service,
- David

To Equip the Saints
for the Work of Ministry
As pastors, we are not merely called to do ministry, but to help to train the saints to execute the work of ministry for building up the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:12).
Life University will meet on Sunday nights from 6:00pm-7:10pm and begins February 21st. This is a focused time of training available to anyone in our Grover family. There are no particular age or gender suggestions in these spring semester classes. Life University, like a university setting, does bring with it a mindset of learning for the purpose of applying. Do not let that intimidate you from coming and growing in the knowledge and wisdom of the things of God. Each of these classes are only 10-12 weeks. For adults, there are
three spring semester class offerings that will coincide with our excellent children’s Bible Drill program.
"Old Testament Overview: Keys to Interpreting the Poetic & Prophetic Books" located in the FLC Main The goal of this class, led by Roger Dumas, is to help equip you with keys to interpreting the Old Testament as well as a deeper understanding of how the Scriptures point to Christ. In Luke 24:27 it tells us that Jesus said to His disciples,
“And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” In this class, we will be walking through various important Old Testament sections ranging from poetic to prophetic texts. Do not make the mistake that so many do of neglecting or minimizing the tremendous wisdom found in the
Old Testament. You will leave this class with a greater understanding for handling the second half of the Old Testament in context and therefore better applying them to your life so as to follow Christ more closely.
“Christian History Made Easy” located in room 220 This class has both a fantastic teacher, Frank Grey, & the finest Christian History small group material. We believe
that one of the largest weaknesses in the evangelical church world is a severe ignorance of Christian history. This class will take you through the most important events in Christian history from the time of the apostles to today. You will meet fascinating people and events that have shaped our world. This isn't dry names and dates. It's full of dramatic stories told with a touch of humor. So many of the modern false teachings propagated by Mormons, Jehovah Wit-nesses, Oneness Pentecostals are simply recycled false teachings from centuries ago. Come and get equipped and get
emboldened by the sacrifices so many of our older Christian brothers & sisters have made. The cost of this class is only $10 and scholarships are available as needed to cover your class book.
“How to Make Disciples” located in ‘The Park’ In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus said, “19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you
always, to the end of the age.” The command is clear, but in the 21st century, how exactly do you go about discipling another believer? Where do you start? Who do you start with? What do you do when you meet? How long do you need to meet? What are the goals of meeting? How do I know when I’m ready to begin to disciple someone? In this class, led by Pastor Brent, we will answer these questions and several more. You will also be given and
shown how to use several free discipleship materials & handouts that you can use to disciple another believer with. Every class will also have a short time of Q&A regarding discipleship and the spiritual disciplines.
“Children’s Bible Drill” located in the Children’s Hall room 150
Bible Drill is a fantastic program that gets children actively involved in learning the Word of God. Led by our own Sandra Silkwood & Alisa Battles, children will learn how to look up verses and books of the Bible. Our kids will learn how to compete in a God honoring way while they hide God's Word in their hearts. Enroll your K-5th grader now, as together we help to raise the bar as we strive to help provide a strong foundation for these small disciples.
“Nursery” – located in the nursery on the ground floor We have a great team of young ladies that help to provide care during this time so that as parents, you can focus in your class. It is important to sign up your little one and provide their age, so we know how many workers
to mobilize to make sure our small ones are well cared for.

Smart Phones: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
In the past 12 years of Student Ministry, I have seen an absolute transformation in cell phone technology and its impact on teenage behavior. Even 5 years ago, it was not a given that a Middle School student would have a cell phone. Today, it is almost strange to see a group of teenagers without smartphones in hand. I want to be clear before I proceed with this article, smartphones are not evil. Like computers or any form of technology from guns to cars they can be used for great good, but they can also be extremely dangerous. Smartphones are not a ‘right’ they are a privilege that come with serious risks. Parents and Grandparents, I’m writing this to provide you with a list of questions you need to be aware of and ask yourself before you purchase that smartphone or tablet for your child and if you have already purchased it how are you monitoring it? • Am I aware that with this purchase they will have access to an immeasurable amount of pornographic material in a matter of
seconds? Are you willing to purchase a top notch purity software for $10 a month like ‘Covenant Eyes’ that can at least provide some protection? If you can afford to purchase the phone and pay the bill, but you can’t afford the purity software, then you really can’t afford the phone. That’s like buying a car without being able to afford the insurance.
• Am I aware that social media is extremely addicting, particularly to teenagers? 1/3rd of the entire world population in on social media! How does your child handle potential anonymous bullying, flirting, an unadulterated access to people coming from a secu-lar worldview? You will find out. 10% of Americans admit to being completely addicted an unable to quit social media even for one day. This is a psychological addiction, but it does impact the brain in similar ways to drug addiction because it provides so much neurological excitement. The brain feel good chemical ‘dopamine’ releases and literally rewires the brain. This is particular-ly fired up when we see or speak about ourselves. This is why over 80% of posts are self-centered in nature. Can your child’s young ego handle this temptation of self-saturation? Children playing video games get a similar reaction. That’s why they often can’t just shut it down with a seconds notice and if you do randomly step in and shut it down many will have an emotional melt-down. Many can’t handle it, because they are well beyond moderation. (According to a recent study published in the National Academy
of Sciences by Anthony Wagner called ‘Cognitive Control in Media Multitaskers). • Has my child agreed to 100% transparency in passwords & accountability? If they have not – they should not have a
smartphone. Case closed. You as the parent should have 100% access to their apps including: instragram, snapchat, facebook, twitter, vine, tumblr, email and open access to their email and text history. Not only do you need to have this information, you need to access if regularly and randomly. They need the accountability of knowing they are being observed. Most students do things they would never dream of doing in real life online, because they actually think they are anonymous. They need to under-stand there is always a fingerprint left and there are real consequences. Please understand that pornographic images can be ac-cessed from apps like twitter and snapchat. Your child will figure that out at some point. If they have agreed to this accountabil-ity, you need to set out clear boundaries and consequences if they are found breaking trust. It is also wise to put physical bounda-ries on phone usage with rules like, nobody can bring their phones to the dinner table or into the restaurant. Why eat as a family when as parents or kids you aren’t mentally there anyway?
• Will I take the time to make sure they are aware of good Christian apps and how to use them or match them up with someone that does? There are several great Christian applications available today. Here are a few apps I think every Christian should be familiar with: gotquestions?, Youversion Bible app, Solid Joys devotional, Bible for Kids, Grace to You, RZIM, & Stand to Reason. Please, never hesitate to use me as a resource for training and equipping as you process through this difficult area.

Ministry Council prepares a meal for the students at the Baptist Student
Union. This Month we will be hosting this wonderful event February 9th, and we
will be serving a Sloppy Joes, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Veggies and Desserts.
A sign up sheet will be on the information table if you would like to help.
If you are able to help out in anyway and to share in this wonderful outreach to our College Students,
please sign up on the information table or call Debbie Weigand, at 909-4930.

Praise God for our Lottie Moon offering. Our goal was $9,000, however, we exceeded that and gave $12,219.73. It is such a
blessing to be part of an amazing mission minded church. These monies will enable the situations IMB is sharing the word.
At this point I believe the purging of workers has ended. We need to keep our own bathed in prayer daily; Terry, Sheila,
Kennedy and Caylen Wilbanks working in Birmingham, England. Mike, Debbie, Kyla, Josiah and Elli Jane Huges working in Viet Nam.
We also need to pray for Rachel Weigand to receive direction from the father as to where her next assignment will be.
We continue to serve at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, the second Monday evening of each month. We also help hand out food from the
Shiloh parking lot the first and third Saturday morning of each month.
Plans are in place for our Annual Mission Festival in April. Pastor Wisny will be visiting Missouri during the month of April. He will be able to give us an update on
the ministries in Mare Rouge, Haiti, that Grover Park has been such a big part of. The up date will be on Grace Baptist Church and Grace Christian School.
The scripture they cling to is Ephesians 2:8-9. If you remember that 2015 VBS sent enough money for 12 children to attend school. I don’t know the total number of children that Grover folks support but I t is a large number. Just think you all
are making a huge difference in those children’s future.
We are putting together a trip to Mare Rough, June 25 through July 5, 2016. We will be doing
evangelism, VBS, medical care, construction and revival. If indeed you would be interested in going with us just give me a call at (660) 238-6501. I can guarantee you will not
come back the same person that left Missouri.
We are planning a trip to the Kansas City Men’s Rescue Mission. The date has yet to be decided. I believe we will be
setting up the room for the game time and help check fellas in. In the past we have taken items that they need on a routine basis. We will have a list of items needed and have it posted when we get a solid date. We would love to have you all go with us. The times we have gone in the past we have been
blessed beyond measure. This has always been an eventful ministry for us.
We would like to invite you to join us as we join Wil Codilla on his Sunday Outreach Ministry. If interested give us a call.

Hey Guys,
Happy Independence Day! Independence Day is always a fun time
for families to celebrate together. As you approach
Independence Day, are you busy thinking about where your
family will go, how many fireworks you will buy, or whose
celebration you will attend? Many things can grab for our time, but Jesus constantly reminds us in the Scriptures to focus on Him. We celebrate our Independence as a nation, an Independence that was sought after when our forefathers were faced with the reality of spiritual oppression. They would form a nation where
anybody could worship Jesus as King! Sometimes we
forget that we have the freedom to worship and instruct our kids
in the way of the Lord. We have been given so many very
wonderful freedoms, let us use them to point our kids to the
merciful arms of the Savior who loves each of us without
reservation and without favoritism. A great way to “spark”
and “ignite” wonderful conversations about being free to
worship Jesus, is by checking out Freedom Spectacular.
Hope to see you here on the 4th!

Hey Guys, January has come and gone and 2016 is already off to a great start! This month we have seen so many great things, from kids making decisions to follow Jesus, to our building being “raised up”, to the little things of families receiving the blessing that comes with fellowshipping in a Sunday School class. I am truly grateful for all the work that God’s faithful put in each week here at Grover. I am always amazed as I walk past our Sunday School classes and see so much happening in each of those rooms. God is truly moving here at Grover. We also had a great Life Workshop. I think it was the best attended, from the our kids workers, that I have seen since I have been serving here. In kids church, during the month of February, we are excited to talk about the unique role that we each play as a member of a local believing body. We will talk about having forgiving love like Jesus, the outward sign that is baptism, and how Jesus was tempted right after being baptized, and we can expect to be tempted as well. Jesus overcame—and His children will overcome also :) Kids Church Teaching Calendar for the month of February! February 7th—Church February 14th—Love February 21st—Baptism February 28th—Temptation
Mrs. Theresa Gibson has been such a blessing for SO many years. She has faithfully served as our Children’s Sun-day School Director. Over the years, she has of course worn many different hats around Grover. I have seen her work tirelessly with our kids, our bulletin boards, our resource room, and connecting with parents. Thank you so much
for your sacrifice.

A Word From Our Sponsors
Hey guys, Mark here. Did you know that babies cry? It’s true, I learned this small detail. But that’s the wonderful, beautiful, loud thing - you know when they need something.
Sometimes I wish adults were so simple. Sometimes, I wish I was so simple. I love the story of that time in the Bible when Elijah is on the run. Jezebel was going to kill him. Of course, Elijah should have known that God would totally protect him, but when an army is after you, I guess it’s normal to panic. Elijah made his way to a cave and said he wanted to die. He did not know what he needed. But God did. God provided him food and told him to rest. After
these two key thing, Elijah was ready to continue ministering before the Lord. Sometimes it’s easy to get tired, or malnourished.
Sometimes, the best thing we can do is cry and wait for the bottle… okay, maybe not that, but ensuring that we get the rest we need, the nutrition we need, and that we surround ourselves with those who love us is key. At Grover our teachers pray for you and your
family on a regular basis. I am praying that the love of God would just be so apparent to you this Valentines season.
Dee Anna Neal (First Service Nursery Worker)
Dee Anna is such a wonderful caregiver to our young ones during the first service time here at Grover. It is such a blessing to see her loving on
those kids as she serves twice a month. The kids are so happy to see her and she is truly a blessing. Thank You Mrs. Dee Anna! If you could
join Dee Anna and help out, please let Mark or Melissa know this week.

Have you ever asked your child if
they love God? If they have been
around church or if you talk about
God at home they will probably say that
they love God. Next question
you could ask is, "How much do
you love God?" Mention to your
child that God wants you to LOVE
God with your whole being.
In Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied:
"Love the Lord your God with all
your heart and with all your soul
and with all your mind."
Pray with your child about ways
they can show God ways that
they LOVE HIM!!
A great way to show how much of our HEART SOUL AND MIND our Lord wants of us is by showing your child with this demonstration.
You will need:
*Three index cards with the words
HEART, SOUL, and MIND
*Prepared kool aid.
Set out the three cups with the index cards in front. Start with the HEART cup and ask your child
how much of their HEART does God want you to love HIM with. Pour a little and, say is this much enough
for God? Add a little more...then fill it to the top and explain that God doesn't want half of you. He wants
you to LOVE HIM WITH ALL YOUR HEART!! Proceed with
the other two cups. And reaffirm the verse.
