FILTER ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS

Who is the FILTER ADMINISTRATOR?

The FILTER ADMINISTRATOR is the person who purchases, installs, and configures the filter for the FILTER USER

In many cases, the FILTER ADMINISTRATOR is the parent or spouse.

The FILTER USER is the person using the mobile device

Installation

Android Version

An account at American Family Online is required for the filter to work o to acquire an account, visit www.mobilewebguard.com, www.afo.net, or

www.totalnetguard.com

To obtain the filter download: o Visit the Amazon or Google store o search for “Mobile Web Guard” o install o log in

Apple Version

An account at American Family Online is required for the filter to work o to acquire an account, signup at one of the following

www.mobilewebguard.com www.afo.net www.totalnetguard.com

Install the filter o Method 1

Visit the iTunes store on the device search for “Mobile Web Guard” install log in

o Method 2 Use the iTunes desktop application to install the MWG Filter on the mobile

device

Recommended MWG configuration

Android Version

In the following scenario, a parent is installing a filter on a child’s phone o We encourage your billing and filter usernames be different in order to increase security

and reduce the possibility of the filter login criteria getting into the wrong hands and resulting in a compromise of the filter

o In order to ensure settings are not changed, do not release the username and password to the child

if the FILTER ADMINISTRATOR and the FILTER USER are the same person (you have purchased the filter for yourself) and you would like to make it so that you cannot remove the filter, simply contact Technical Support (via email or phone) and request that we change the password without giving you the new password

be advised that you will no longer have access to the MOBILE WEB GUARD EXPLORER so it is best to make all the necessary configuration changes before contacting us

for future configuration changes and uninstalls, you will need to contact Technical Support (via email or phone)

o Follow the BLOCKING APPLICATIONS procedure described elsewhere in this document to block desired applications

as a minimum, it is recommended that the FILTER ADMINISTRATOR block:

the default browser (listed as BROWSER in the MWG filter) o that way, device users cannot use another browser to be able to

browse unfiltered

the google store (listed as PLAY STORE in the MWG filter) o that way, device users cannot uninstall the MWG filter or

download other non-filtered browsers o Configure Mobile Web Guard as the default browser

the first time you click on a link on a new device, you will be asked to set the default action (if there is more than one browser loaded)

you will continue to be asked until the question is answered once the default browser has been set, it may be changed as follows:

press the hardware MENU button

click SETTINGS, APPLICATIONS, MANAGE APPLICATIONS

find the current default browser

click CLEAR DEFAULTS

then, then next time you come across an internet link and click on it, you will be asked to set the default

o choose MWG as the default browser

Installing Apps o blocking this will prevent the FILTER USER from installing an

alternative unfiltered web browser

Deleting Apps o blocking this will prevent the FILTER USER from removing the

MWG filter

Usage

Logging-in

Android Version

The FILTER ADMINISTRATOR must log in the first time o after that, the application will remember the login and no further login is required

The FILTER ADMINISTRATOR can only use a given login on one device o if a username/password is attempted on a second device, the user will see an error

Log-in procedure o open the MWG Filter o click the hardware MENU button o click OPTIONS o click MOBILE WEB GUARD

o enter username and password (both are case-sensitive)

Apple Version

The FILTER ADMINISTRATOR must log in the first time o after that, the application will remember the login and no further login is required

Log-in procedure o open the MWG Filter o click the center button along the bottom which looks like a box with an arrow o click ACTIVATE FILTER o enter username and password (both are case-sensitive)

Account Information

Email Address

The email address you entered during signup is used to… o send block/unblock correspondence o send ACTIVITY REPORTS o send password change notifications

To change the email address on file, contact Technical Support at 850-362-6180

Password

The password you entered when the filter was created may be changed by using the MOBILE WEB GUARD EXPLORER as detailed below

Username

The username you set up when the filter was created cannot be changed or re-used and is tied to a specific device

Administration from WWW.MYAFO.NET

Visit www.myafo.net and click FILTER CONTROL on the left to perform the following administrative functions

o REINSTALL EXISTING FILTER move the filter to a new device

o CREATE NEW FILTER once you have purchased a license, go here to create a filter

once a filter has been created, do not use this page again unless you have purchased more filters

o PURCHASE MORE FILTERS purchase one or more filter licenses

Administration on the MOBILE DEVICE

Manage Applications

Android Version

The built-in MANAGE APPLICATIONS function of the mobile device is disabled when the MWG filter is ENABLED

o this is so that you can control which applications are enabled on the device o any new applications installed on the device will be automatically disabled and must be

enabled via the MWG o to access the various features of the built-in MANAGE APPLICATIONS function of the

device in order to force stop, move the application to the SD card, uninstall the application, etc., you must log in and un-check ENABLE MOBILE WEB GUARD

this will disable the filter so you will need to re-enable it after you are done

To block/unblock applications: o open the MWG Browser o click the hardware MENU button o click the software OPTIONS button o click MOBILE WEB GUARD o log in o click BLOCK APPLICATIONS o click the desired application to toggle LOCKED or UNLOCKED

Apple Version

To block/unblock applications: o Exit the MWG Filter o From the device desktop

click SETTINGS click GENERAL turn on RESTRICTIONS the first time you will be prompted for a passcode

remember this passcode as you will need it to access settings in the future

enable or disable applications by clicking the ON/OFF button for each exit by clicking GENERAL at the top, then SETTINGS, then the hardware MENU

button

Updating MWG

Android Version

Periodically, the Amazon and Google stores will automatically go through their respective lists of applications you have downloaded and check for updates

o if updates are available you will be notified by an icon at the top of your phone click the icon or open the respective store and go to MY APPS, UPDATE, and

select MWG to update

If you don’t want to wait for the automatic update check, you can open the store app and click MY APPS, UPDATE

o MWG will appear in the list to update if there is a new version available o click on MWG to update

Apple Version

Option A: from your device o iTunes automatically checks for updates to all your installed apps o if updates are detected, a white number in a red circle will be displayed in the upper-

right corner of the iTunes icon on your device o click the iTunes icon and you should be taken to the UPDATES page

if not, tap the UPDATES button in the lower-right o MWG will be listed if there is an update o click a specific app, or click UPDATE ALL at the top-right

Option B: from your desktop computer o open iTunes o click APPS in LIBRARY o click CHECK FOR UPDATES in the lower-right o any apps requiring update will be listed o click GET UPDATE for a specific app, or DOWNLOAD ALL o you may be required to enter your device password o connect your device to your desktop o SYNCH

Reinstall MWG on the same device

Android Version

Uninstall the current version using the instructions provided elsewhere in this document

Visit the Amazon or Google store from your mobile device o search for “Mobile Web Guard” o install o be sure to log in

Apple Version

Uninstall the current version o Method 1

Exit the MWG Filter Find the MWG Filter icon on the device desktop Press and hold until all icons begin to wiggle Click the X on the MWG Filter icon

o Method 2 Use the iTunes Mac or PC application to remove the MWG Filter

Install the new version o Method 1

Visit the iTunes store on the device search for “Mobile Web Guard” install log in

o Method 2 Use the iTunes Mac or PC application to install the MWG Filter

Move MWG to a New Device

Android Version

Uninstall the filter from the current device unless the current device is no longer available or functioning

Visit FILTER CONTROL at www.myafo.net

Log in and click REINSTALL EXISTING FILTER

Fill in the appropriate information o the previous username cannot be re-used; you will be required to think of a new

username

Visit the Amazon or Google store and search for “Mobile Web Guard”

Install the filter and log-in using the new username/password combination created above

Apple Version

Uninstall the filter from the current device unless the current device is no longer available or functioning

Visit FILTER CONTROL at www.myafo.net

Log in and click REINSTALL EXISTING FILTER

Fill in the appropriate information o the previous username cannot be re-used; you will be required to think of a new

username

Obtain a filter by searching for “Mobile Web Guard” from iTunes using the mobile device or desktop iTunes application

Install the filter and log-in using the new username/password combination created above

Uninstall MWG

Android version

run the MWG filter o click OPTIONS o log in o un-check ENABLE MOBILE WEB GUARD o exit the MWG filter o click the hardware MENU button o click SETTINGS o click APPLICATIONS o click MANAGE APPLICATIONS o click MOBILE WEB GUARD o click FORCE STOP o click UNINSTALL o click CLEAR DATA

If the store is not blocked in the filter, then visit the store o do one of the following

search for “Mobile Web Guard”

click on it then choose UNINSTALL click on the hardware MENU button

click MY APPS

click on Mobile Web Guard

click UNINSTALL

Apple Version

Method 1 o Exit the MWG Filter o Find the MWG Filter icon on the device desktop o Press and hold until all icons begin to wiggle o Click the X on the MWG Filter icon

Method 2 o Use the iTunes desktop application to remove the MWG Filter

Activity Reporting (Android & Apple versions)

Activity Reporting can be activated/deactivated by the account admin using the MWG EXPLORER http://mwg.afo.net:8080/MobilewebguardPC

o log in with the same username/password as is used on the MWG filter on the mobile device

o click USERS o click SEND THE USER REPORTS DAILY

Reports in PDF format are emailed daily to the address on file when the account was set up o you will receive an empty report if there has not been any usage

The email address may be changed by contacting Technical Support o via email [email protected] o via telephone 850-362-6180

Block & Un-block Web Sites (Android & Apple versions)

Types of Blocks The type of block is listed on the block page when a page is blocked.

Centrally Denied o no exceptions o these cannot be un-blocked by the FILTER ADMINISTRATOR o if you feel a site should not be blocked, report via the block page or at www.myafo.net

Dynamic Filter (Neural Network) o page was blocked due to content o these cannot be un-blocked by the FILTER ADMINISTRATOR o if you feel a site should not be blocked, report via the block page or at www.myafo.net

Locally Denied o page was blocked due to an exception created by the FILTER ADMINISTRATOR

Time Settings o page was blocked due to a time restriction set up by the FILTER ADMINISTRATOR

URL Processor o page was blocked because the URL contained inappropriate material o these can be unblocked by the FILTER ADMINISTRATOR creating an exception

Android & Apple Versions

The FILTER ADMINISTRATOR may block pages in addition to what is normally blocked by doing the following:

o visit the MWG EXPLORER page http://mwg.afo.net:8080/MobilewebguardPC o log in with the same username/password as was used to log into the filter on the mobile

device o click USERS on the left o click the user when it appears to the right o click the EXCEPTIONS LIST tab o click ADD

to block an entire domain

enter the url in the following format: www.somedomain.com or http://somedomain.com depending on the number of periods

select the HOST option

select the BLOCKED option

click SAVE to block just a page and not the entire domain

enter the url in the following format: www.somedomain.com/somepage.html or http://somedomain.com/somepage.com depending on the number of periods

select the URL option

select the BLOCKED option

click SAVE

Un-blocking (allowing) web sites

Android & Apple Versions

When ALLOWING a site o exceptions are only applicable to sites blocked by the URL PROCESSOR o you cannot un-block sites blocked due to the following reasons:

CENTRALLY DENIED DYNAMIC FILTER (NEURAL NETWORK)

The FILTER ADMINISTRATOR may un-block pages which are blocked due to the URL PROCESSOR by doing the following:

o visit the MWG EXPLORER page http://mwg.afo.net:8080/MobilewebguardPC o log in with the same username/password as was used to log into the filter on the mobile

device o click USERS on the left o click the user when it appears to the right o click the EXCEPTIONS LIST tab o click ADD

to un-block an entire domain

enter the url in the following format: www.somedomain.com or http://somedomain.com depending on the number of periods

select the HOST option

select the ALLOWED option

click SAVE to un-block just a page and not the entire domain

enter the url in the following format: www.somedomain.com/somepage.html or http://somedomain.com/somepage.com depending on the number of periods

select the URL option

select the ALLOWED option

click SAVE

Exception Lists

Here is where you define custom web blocks and un-blocks o note: sites defined by American Family Online (CENTRALLY DENIED, and DYNAMIC

FILTER) cannot be un-blocked

Log-in and click USERS on the left

Click the user

Click the EXCEPTION LISTS tab

To view existing exceptions o make a selection in the SHOW box o drag the window wider to see all columns

To delete one or more exceptions o click a check in the box next to one or more exceptions o click DELETE

To add an exception o to allow or block an entire domain

enter the url in the following format: www.somedomain.com or http://somedomain.com depending on the number of periods

select the HOST option select ALLOW or BLOCKED click SAVE

o to block just a page and not the entire domain enter the url in the following format: www.somedomain.com/somepage.html or

http://somedomain.com/somepage.com depending on the number of periods select the URL option select ALLOW or BLOCKED click SAVE

o when ALLOWING a site exceptions are only applicable to sites blocked by the URL PROCESSOR you cannot un-block sites blocked due to the following reasons:

Password Change

Log-in and click CHANGE PASSWORD in the upper-right corner

Passwords are case-sensitive

You should receive an email notification at the address on file with your filter license

Time Settings

Use this section to configure time restrictions on when the MWG filter is allowed to browse the web

Log-in and click USERS on the left

Click the user

Click into the appropriate time boxes to allow access at that time o times listed are CENTRAL TIME

User Issues

If you have TIME RESTRICTIONS or custom EXCEPTIONS and the FILTER USER clicks REPORT NOW when a block page appears, the notification will be emailed to you and will also appear in the USER ISSUES section

When USER ISSUES are reported here, you have the option of ALLOWING or BLOCKING as a result

Log-in and click USER ISSUES on the left

White List Filter

The default filtering mode is BLACK LIST which means known objectionable sites are blacklisted and thus blocked, while all other sites are not and have to go through URL and content scanning for potential blocking action before being displayed

In WHITE LIST mode, the entire Internet is blocked except for pages you designate in the MOBILE WEB GUARD explorer. This makes for a very restricted browsing experience.

To convert the filter to a WHITE LIST FILTER o visit the MWG EXPLORER at http://mwg.afo.net:8080/MobilewebguardPC o log in and click USERS on the left o click the user to the right when it appears o click NO ACCESS EXCEPT under the ACCESS TO THE INTERNET section o configure which sites you want allowed in the EXCEPTIONS LIST section o click ADD

to allow an entire domain

enter the url in the following format: somedomain.com

select the HOST option

select the ALLOWED option

click SAVE

enter the url in the following format: somedomain.com/somepage.html

select the URL option

Who is the FILTER USER?

The FILTER USER is the person using the mobile device.

The FILTER ADMINISTRATOR is the person who purchases, installs, and configures the filter for the FILTER USER

Usage

Use the MWG application to browse the Internet

In order to activate the filter, the FILTER ADMINISTRATOR must have logged-in to the filter on your device

Other browsers and applications may be blocked depending upon how the filter is configured by the FILTER ADMINISTRATOR

Controls and Settings

Android Version

The following are available when pressing the hardware MENU button o BACK

go to the previous page o HOME

go to the HOME page o NEW button

click this to open a new tab this will enable you to keep multiple web pages open in the filter

o CLOSE button if multiple tabs are open, will close current tab if only one tab is open, will close the application

o FORWARD button go back to the page you were on before you pressed BACK

o HISTORY button BOOKMARKS

add, sort, export, and clear bookmarks (favorites)

display list of sites viewed in the past o BOOKMARK button

add a bookmark (favorite) o OPEN button

display a list of tabs click to switch to the desired tab

o DOWNLOADS button display a list of files downloaded from the Internet X = stop the download + = run the download

o OPTIONS HOME PAGE

set the home page MOBILE WEB GUARD

log-in to the filter

enable/disable the filter

configure BLOCKED APPLICATIONS DEFAULT ZOOM LEVEL

set the default zoom level LOAD IMAGES

enable or disable the displaying of images on web pages PRIVACY SETTINGS

HISTORY SIZE o determine how long to keep history

SAVE FORMS DATA o enable or disable the saving of form data to make future form

filling easier

SAVE PASSWORDS o enable or disable the saving of password to make future logins

easier

ALLOW COOKIES o enable or disable the ability for cookies to be saved o cookies consists of data stored on your device by various web

sites in order to remember things about you for when you visit their site the next time

CLEAR CACHE ON EXIT o if checked, the browser will not remember sites you visit in

order to display them faster from local storage, and will be required to retrieve the entire site the next time you visit

ENABLE DEBUG LOG o enable if instructed by Technical Support personnel in order to

troubleshoot a problem

SEND DEBUG LOG TO SUPPORT o send the log to Technical Support

CLEAR HISTORY o clear list of past sites visited

CLEAR FORM DATA o clear remembered form entries

CLEAR CACHE o clear remembered site data

CLEAR COOKIES o clear data stored by previous sites visited

log in to toggle filter activation / deactivation

OPEN BOOK button o FAVORITES

click an entry to go there click ORGANIZE to delete an entry

click the red icon on the left to enable deletion o HISTORY

Click CLEAR to erase history

FOLDER button o if there are multiple tabs open…

swipe left or right to view them touch one to expand it to full screen a round blue icon with a white X will appear on each tab enabling you to close it

o NEW PAGE enables you to open another tab

clicking the MWG logo in the upper-right provides the filter version

Blocked pages

If a page is blocked and you feel it should not have been, click the REPORT NOW button and fill in all the required information

o you should receive a confirmation email o your request will be routed to the appropriate individual for action

to your FILTER ADMINISTRATOR for pages blocked due to LOCALLY DENIED or TIME SETTINGS

to AFO for all other pages

If a page is not blocked, and you feel it should be, visit www.myafo.net, click the BLOCK/UNBLOCK link on the left, and fill out the appropriate information
