We started with a brief walk around the Handkerhof (Craftsmen'sCourtyard) - where we were able to see typical old small shops withtoys, metal works, and other crafts.

Then it was a whistle stop tour right through from South to North ofthe Old City (staying within the old city walls) taking in the sights

along the way. We passed St Lorenzkirche (St Lawrence Church) - where we had

stopped to look at some of the sculptures and fountains on theoutside.

    The Tour continued

Annett explains the history of the Lorenzkirche to

    Mehernush and Rahul.

Annett points out landmarks in the area to

    Mehernush and Rahul.

To take in an overview of the city, we stopped in a very non-touristattraction of a high rise parking lot. This was however an ideal positionto see the city from a beautifully different perspective includingthe main market area and the castle.

Over the river Pegnitz we were able to view and admire the different

types of bridges and surrounding buildings including the Hospital ofthe Holy Spirit and the entrance to the old Meat Market with the bullsculpture on top of the doorway.

    The Tour continued

Mehernush, Rahul and Annett pose in front of the

view. The Frauen Kirche is visible in the

    background.

Bob, Rahul, Annett and Mehernush brave the chilly

wind to smile for the camera the castle is visible in

    the background.

Onwards towards the castle, wepassed St.Sebalds Church - againadmiring the different styles ofarchitecture along the way.

Into Tiergrtnertorplatz - (Zoo Gate Marketplace) - it was impressive to see in thissection of the old town how quite a lot of oldhouses made of stone and half timberedwork survived in the ravages f World War II.

The medieval atmosphere of the the squareis enhanced by the fortified buildings on thenorth western side. The area has manyattractions including sculptures, AlbrechtDrer's House (Famous German Artist), andof course not to mention the castle.

This was our last port of call before makingour way just outside the city walls beforearriving a for a well deserved rest anddinner just outside the city walls.

    The Tour continued

Annett and Mehernush take a short

    break in the Hauptmarkt.
