The Clarity Tool

1 Current Status (The Truth)

When you know your destination before you begin, you can achieve exponential growth. As Earl Nightingale said in his classic, The Strangest Secret, “We become what we think about most of the time.” This tool will help you see your

future with complete clarity, so you can stop wasting time on the things not serving your dreams, goals, and aspirations. Instead, your actions will have purpose, and your hours will be spent achieving those goals.

Write down where you are in the different areas of your life that matter most.

Date:Name:

Where are you now in your health?

Your finances?

Your relationships?

Your business?

Other areas of your life that matter to you?

When you’re dirt honest with yourself, where are you?

2 One Year Goals (Look Back)Now, let’s fast forward a year. Where do you want to be in these areas? Write it down and capture this vision for yourself. Get emotional, get engaged, get engulfed, and visualize

specific details about what made it so amazing.

Where are you now in your health?

Your relationships?

Your business?

Other areas of your life that matter to you?

It’s a year from now. Where are you?

3 Obstacles

What restrictions did you encounter as you were writing down this vision? Was there anything that you felt holding you back?

If your story was different, if there were no limiting beliefs, if no one was going to tell you“no, that won’t work,” what would you do?

4 Your “Why”

5 Capabilities

Understanding your “why” is the final step you need to make your vision real. Why do you want what you want, whether it’s to take your income from where it is to the next level, start your own business, help your company evolve, lose weight, have more intimacy in your life, have more passion in your actions, have more joy on a daily

basis, and live a life with more smiles than frowns?

We’ll take a deeper dive later, but let’s get a start here by putting on paper what you think your “why” might be.

What new capabilities will you need to achieve this vision?

What Are You Good At? How Can You Improve Those Skills?

The “Get AMAZING at WhatYou’re Already Good at” Exercise

Take a few minutes to write down what you’re good at—the things you do well. Then, next to each entry, write down how you can improve those skills and enhance your abilities so you can become great at them. As you do this exercise, don’t even think about your weaknesses. You’re soon going to realize that if you can spend all of your focus, energy, time, and effort on the things you’re good at, you can overcome all the other

things at which you’re not so talented.

The Bad AdviceReflection Guide

Take a moment to write down all the bad advice you’ve gotten over the years, the ill-conceived warnings, instructions, and “helpful” hints. Then, write down what it’s cost you. When you can see all this bad advice

clearly, you’ll understand why you can no longer allow someone else’s unqualified advice to steer the direction of your life. Let this be the start of a new success habit in which you ignore bad advice and,

instead, get good advice from qualified people. This will help you keep your inner villain at bay and unleash a new level of confidence.

Forget All the RulesIf society had nothing to do with it, if you weren’t afraid about the income, if you weren’t afraid

about what other people thought about it, what would you do?

What limiting beliefs have other people given you? What have those beliefs done to your life? What have they caused you to miss out on? How has that fueled this inner villain and possibly

lowered your confidence? Write it all in the space below.

the old you. Then, find another photo of yourself where you’re full of energy, vibrancy, and a passion for life.

Choose your pictures, print them out, and attach them to this sheet. Add a name for each of these people, and write their traits below their photos.

Uncovering Your StoryLet’s uncover the story that you tell yourself, the one that’s currently driving your life. Once you

understand your current story, you can create one that empowers your inner hero and finally attain the wealth, happiness, and fulfillment that you deserve.

Answer the following questions:

What is your story, and where do you believe it came from? Was there an event in your life that’s made an impact that has helped craft your story?1

Next, who’s to blame for that story? Was there someone who took advantage of you or didn’t love you the way you wanted?2

How has this story affected your life? 3

What has it cost you? Think less about the past and more about what will happen if you continue to let this story drive your life.4

7 Levels Deep ExerciseI first discovered this exercise when consulting with a man named Joe Stump, who used this method

with his high-level clients. By going through all seven levels, you’ll uncover your true “why,” which will be the driving force that allows you to accomplish anything in life.

Uncover Your LimitingBeliefs About Money

Beliefs define our stories, and they can be the thing that either holds us back or propels us forward. When it comes to success and abundance, our limiting beliefs about money can keep us from reaching the levels we desire and deserve.

Spend a few minutes thinking about what kind of beliefs you have about money and answer these prompts:

Money is…

Wealth is…

People with money are…

Wanting to make more money is...

More money means...

Being wealthy means...

Money makes me feel...

What’s Cool About You?I learned this exercise from Sean Stephenson, the three-foot-tall giant. He reminded me that when life gets stressful, we tend to focus on our mistakes and forget what we’ve accomplished. Use this exercise to remind

yourself what’s cool about you and boost your confidence so you can move your vision forward.

So, what’s cool about you? Write your list in the box below. Here are a few sample ideas from me to get you started:

Now it’s your turn:

- I put my kids first over work and accomplishments.- I can operate a bulldozer and a backhoe.- I still have my best friend from fifth grade.- I was the New England snowmobile grass drag champion in my 20s.

Create Your Own Power PhraseThe right power phrase can change your state of mind and build your confidence instantly. Tony Robbins

taught me this lesson 15+ years ago, and it transformed my life. Whether you’re facing a challenge in your life, chasing a huge goal, or just going after your dream in spite of the doubters, create a power phrase that fires you up and keeps you moving forward. Say it all the time—out loud around the house, in your head on the

treadmill at the gym, in the morning when you wake up, at night before you go to bed.

Use the space below to create your power phrase. When you find the right one, you’ll feel it in your heart, your mind, and your soul.

To get you started, here are a few of my favorites:

- “If I can get through this, I can get through anything! (Great for a challenging time!)

- “I command my subconscious to use my God-given, unique ability to impact, empower, and transform the lives of the people who are here today.”

- “Nothing can stop me; I’ve been through worse.”

- “I’ll never give up because my family deserves the best me!”

My Morning RoutineSystems are my secret weapon to keep myself productive. Just like every successful business has its Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), I create systems for everything—my morning routine, how I exercise, and even

how I eat healthy. These take away the guessing and allow the proven system to create fast, effective, and repeatable results.

Remember: Little shifts create big results.

One final note because I love being transparent with you: I screw up this morning routine two days a week. However, if I can get this routine done five out of seven days, that’s a win—and I’m pure fire for the entire day.

Dean’s Morning Routine

1 | Don’t look at your phone.

I hate to start this list with a negative, but this one is important. Don’t start the day by looking at your phone. That’s not the place where you want to begin. Instead...

2 | Practice gratitude!

It doesn’t have to be huge. Maybe you look over at your amazing partner. Maybe you’re just happy to be alive, to be here to fight another day. Maybe the sheets feel good on your body, or your neck doesn’t hurt. Bring up one (or more!) thoughts that put you in a grateful space.

3 | Think of a win from yesterday.

It could be huge. Maybe you closed a big deal. Or it could be small, like having a conversation you’ve been meaning to have with a key employee. If you had more than one, great! Feed your brain with all the great things you did yesterday.

4 | Decide on a win you’d like to have today.

What could you accomplish today that would make you feel good? What could you do that would make you think at the end of the day, “Today was a great day!” Decide on that before you get out of bed.

5 | Finally, go do something with movement.

I take a 15-minute walk every morning that’s kind of my meditation. It gives me clarity, and sometimes it gives me a chance to call a loved one and have a great conversation. Then, I go exercise.

Revisiting Your Past BeliefsYour beliefs can either be an anchor, or they can be the wind behind your sails. Let’s revisit some of

your old beliefs and put a new twist on them.

Old Belief How Could You Put a Twist on It?

Dyslexia has held me back my whole life. If I weren’t dyslexic, I could

have achieved so much more.

Dyslexia has been the greatest gift in my life. Because of my dyslexia, I can watch someone do something and immediately do it.

The 90 Day SprintJust like teams who use sprints within agile project management strategies to get more work done in a set period of time, a 90-day sprint can help you compress time and make some astonishing shifts in your life.

Imagine that it’s 90 days from today, and you’ve seen some awesome results in your life. What would those look like? Capture them below to give yourself the clarity you need for your sprint.

I commit to this sprint with my entire heart, mind and soul.

What specifically happened during the past 90 days? What has changed in your job, yourbusiness, your relationships, and your community?

How did you get those new success habits in your life. What actions did you take to make thingshappen. What did you say or do that created this change?

Who are you spending more time with and who less?

What success habits have you introduced into your life. What habits did you replace that weren’tserving you well?

With all the positive shifts and accomplishments, how do you feel emotionally? Where is your confidence level? Your happiness level? Who do you see when you look in the mirror?

What is your state of mind like? What are you grateful for?
