Major team sports may have come to a halt this year, but Strat-O-Matic has been busier than ever filling the void. And in so doing, the game company kept Major League Baseball and the National Basket-ball Association alive for fans, while also helping them to relive nostal-gic moments from better times. Perhaps the highest-profile project was enlisting The Price Is Right host Drew Carey and his friend, Stray Cats drummer Slim Jim Phantom – both long-time Strat-O-Matic players who are in a league to-gether – to play the MLB All-Star game on YouTube. They used starting lineups chosen by Strat fans. With home runs by five different players, Phantom’s National League squad won, 7-2. Phantom, the musician, even was the impromp-tu singer of the National Anthem during the seventh-inning stretch.

MLB SIM For sustained fun, Strat-O-Matic refused to leave fans without baseball or basketball, conducing daily computer simulations to re-place the missing real games.(continued on page 7)

Hugely popular with fans and the nation’s sporting press, the sim used SOM projections for every Major Leaguer. Fans helped select lineups, voted on All-Stars, and even recreated games. Strat-O-Matic players and San Francisco Giants broadcasters Jon Miller and Dave Flemming recreated the Giants home opener in this fantastic video found here:

FATHER’S DAY SERIESStrat-O-Matic, No. 1 in re-creating baseball histo-ry, both entertained and educated fans by playing a best-of-seven series pitting famous baseball fathers against their famous baseball sons.That put Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. on separate teams. So, too, for Mel and Todd Stottlemyre, Bobby and Bar-ry Bonds, Craig and Cavan Biggio, Dante and Bo Bi-chette, Tom and Dee Gordon, Tony and Eduardo Perez – 30 dads and their sons in all. “We wanted to find a uniquely ‘Strat-O-Matic’ way to pay tribute to fathers enjoying baseball with their sons and daughters on their special day,” said Hal Richman, Strat-O-Matic founder. “With so many fathers and sons, many of them Hall of Famers and All-Stars, on rosters throughout baseball history, this fun simulation will highlight some of the best family connections the sport has known.” The seven-game series went into extra innings before Jason Kendall knocked in the winning run off Bryan Harvey to secure the win for the Sons team. MARQUEE SPORTS NETWORK Strat-O-Matic has teamed up with The Marquee Sports Network, home of the Chicago Cubs, to de-velop content for a series of Cubs-specific shows for 2020. The shows will use the data and simulations from iconic Cubs games of the past to re-imagine what an alternate result would have been, as well as other projects designed to engage fans interest and debate.
