A number of people have

reacted to the column

“Doing My Homework”.

The articles were intended to help us

all appreciate that people are treated

differently in society. Unfortunately,

many people heard something that was

not intended. The person quoted in the

article is controversial and does not

share our values on many fronts. Some

of the concepts used charged words

that offended many. This certainly

was not the intent. �

�

Happy Labor Day. Please pray for all

who are not working now and those

whose income has dropped

significantly. We all need to help each

other in a time like this. Labor Day

seems like it marks the end of summer.

I am ok with fall, it is what comes next

that I dread.�

�

School is off to an amazing start. The

children have been so good with what

is happening.�

�

As the pandemic continues, it is

important to remember we are all

under unusual stress. Remember what

professionals encourage us to do.

Exercise, eat responsibly, prayer and

meditation are all part of a healthy life.

If counseling would help, seek it. We

are going through an unusual time and

it is important to help those who are

hurting. Stay in touch with friends and

relatives who are alone.�

Notes from Sister Noel …�

�

I want to share with you our on�going experience in preparing for PSR this year. It is very different in

many ways. You can guess most of them. The biggest challenge has been to create a virtual program for

families.�

�

As everything, there is the light side and the shadow side. How important it is to celebrate the light and

learn from the shadow side. Much of the unknown is in the shadow side.�

�

When maneuvering the shadow side, it is important to rely on others who may be able to see what is

needed because, though in the dark, they are enLIGHTened. I am fortunate to have with me in my staff,

enLIGHTened Ones who lead me through the wonders and capabilities of the computerized world (though

my head knowledge has not moved to hand knowledge…understand?).�

�

Through the summer I have come to discover the many gems in both my PSR staff as well as in my PSR

parents. Endless conversations have helped me to keep on going, knowing I do not go alone, into this

strange, new year. As each person brings their knowledge and love of children, and their Faith, we all

become stronger and willing to keep on going.�

�

I know even more how much team work, characterized by cooperation, generosity and commitment makes

the shadow side less dark and the sun side ever brighter.�

�

This team work is not new to me as one who has lived in Community over 50 years. Because I have

learned, working with Sisters, doing dishes, creating a prayer service, organizing a party is always easier

and more enjoyable because we do it together. That’s the way I see this new year unfolding. So what am I

worried about???? �

�

Are you beginning to see the light in your darkness? Pray to be enLIGHTened.��

Welcome Bishop Malesic�

�

Congratulations to the Most Reverend Edward C.

Malesic, J.C.L., who on July 16, 2020, Pope Francis

named the 12th bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland.

Bishop Malesic will be installed on Monday, September

14, 2020. The installation Mass will take place at the

Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Livestream of the

celebration will be available on the diocesan website. �

Marriage Moments�

and a spouse boring. On this Labor Day, use a

labor saving device (washer, microwave, car,

blender, etc.) to save some time, then do

something playful with your honey. Pray for (and

thank) those who worked to make your life easier. �

Parenting Pointers�

An old African song says, “When an old man dies,

it’s as if a library burns down.” Grandparents are

like a library for your children, connecting them

with the pages of their past. Are your children’s

grandparents alive? Ask them to tell their story.�

�

September 11: It’s been 19 years since the 9/11

terrorist attack on the USA and over 7 months

since Covid�19 has shut down much of planet

earth. Bad things happen, but we shouldn’t need a

terrorist attack or pandemic to prompt us to voice

our love to others and make amends to those we

have hurt. Are there people in your life who need

to hear words of love or apology from you? Do it

today. �

The coronavirus pandemic has forced thousands

of pilgrims to leave the Holy Land and now

pilgrims are banned from visiting until further

notice. The streets of Jerusalem will be empty

for quite some time. The cancellation of

pilgrimages will have serious repercussions for

many Christian families. In the past, when the

Holy Land experienced wartime conditions, some

people managed to temporarily find an economic

niche outside of tourism. However, the pandemic

measures have affected all business sectors,

forcing them to shut down.�

�

Even we, as the Bethlehem Christian Families

group, are unable to lend them a hand during this

difficult time because of the closures here in the

Re�lectingon“AHiddenLife”�

�

Where is the beauty of life found?�

�

Simply the title alone � AHiddenLife� may draw you in. It is relatable. If your life didn’t feel ‘hidden’ in

some way a year ago, it may feel somewhat ‘hidden’ now. Director Terrence Malick demonstrates for

us how Film, as a vehicle for art, can help us to see the world in a different light; a more beautiful light

with which we can perceive the goodness that has been present all along.�

�

As I watched this &ilm, the &irst thing that struck me was the beauty. It is set in mountainous Austria,

with a constant backdrop of stunning peaks and valleys, clouds, blue skies and sunlight. The &ilm is

very lengthy (you may want to break it up into 2 or 3 separate sittings) but the beauty of the

landscape, music, and pace of the movie make for a very peaceful time. I was surprised that I was not

bored, despite the slow pace. But even this is intentional on the part of the director. He shows, rather

than tells, where the beauty of life is. �

�

It is with this backdrop of beautiful mountains that he seems to pose the question; Where is the

beauty of life found? The main character, Franz Jagerstatter, is a simple farmer who lives a simple life.

He is actually a very relatable &igure. The long scenes of Franz focus on him spending time with those

most dear; his spouse, his family, his children. Whether he is softly chatting with his wife � or saying

nothing at all, playing tag with his children in the front yard, going to Church or walking his property,

there is a sense that these are the moments that are being uplifted; they are as beautiful as they are

simple and routine. Is it possible that this is where the beauty of life is found? �

�

I hope you have gotten a chance to watch this movie! As I mentioned last week, you can stream it on

the internet. You’re also welcome to borrow the DVD at the parish of&ice. I have enjoyed watching it

with family and friends, as well as the conversations that &low from it; I hope you do, too. Feel free to
