We are an oil and gas company integrated across the value chain, from upstream to downstream: Exploration & Production conducts our oil and natural gas exploration, development and production operations. Natural gas is expected to surpass coal as the second leading source of energy (25% versus 22%) around 2030. Demand for gas is forecast to grow 2% a year for the next 20 years. We are already a global leader in this market and are continuing to expand our positions through a policy of strategic partnerships. Natural gas is cleaner than coal for power generation. In Asia, demand for gas for power plants will grow significantly in the coming years. Combine our expertise in the gas midstream. Help to launch our gas projects. Three major LNG projects are under development: GLNG (7.2 million tons per year, scheduled to start up in 2015), Ichthys LNG (8.4 million tons per year, scheduled to start up in late 2016, and Yamal LNG (up to 15 million tons per year, scheduled to start up in 2017). Establish global and regional balances for gas, power and coal. Explore new markets and new uses for gas. Continue to grow in LNG. LNG accounted for around 20% of Total's production in 2014. The merger of our Downstream and Chemicals businesses allowed us to: Combine competencies and expertise. Increase operational synergies Deliver integrated Total solutions. We are one of the most active traders in international oil markets. We have built an extensive worldwide network of customers and suppliers that allows us to trade daily with national oil companies, producers, other international oil companies, refiners, traders, distributors and end users. We actively trade most grades of crude oil and nearly all refined products, from cracked fuel oil with a high sulfur content to gasoline cuts. We have developed a suite of strategies and skills that enable us to respond in real time to market trends and emerging niches. We have established close, lasting partnerships with a number of producers, national oil companies and refiners worldwide. These partnerships give us access to additional resources, on top of the significant amounts of crude and refined products that we handle for Total. We can offer refiners an end-to-end service designed to optimize their profitability. We do this by helping them manage their short- and medium-term risks and imbalances through diversified solutions, such as supply agreements including flexible, varied pricing mechanisms. Стратегия подразделения "Маркетинг и услуги" Optimize our operations in mature markets In Europe, Total is continuing to optimize its Marketing operations while developing in growth markets and segments. In Western Europe, Total has a network of more than 8,500 service stations extending through France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany and Italy. The Group is regaining market share (up 1%*between 2012 and 2014) by developing a lineup of innovative and diversified products and services. *Excluding the AS24 network. In France, Total Access has helped the Group widen its market share by more than 2%. Expand in growth regions, including Africa, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and part of the Americas. Redirect our capital employed towards growth areas. Total is the leading retailer of petroleum products in Africa and certain Middle Eastern countries, with an average market share of 16% in 2014. As of end-2014, Total was present in 20 countries in Asia-Pacific. It is continuing to strengthen its positions in fuel and specialty products marketing. In the Americas, Total is directly present through marketing affiliates in more than 20 countries and indirectly through distributors in some 20 others. Concentrate our investments primarily on organic growth by: Using less capital-intensive business models. Grow the lubricants business everywhere. Our share of this profitable market (ROACE of more than 30%) widened from 4.2% in 2012 to 4.5% in 2014. Total has five global logistics hubs (Singapore, Dubai, China, France and Belgium). The Group's largest blending plant (310,000 t/year) is under construction in Singapore, for delivery in 2015. Total has invested steadily in R&D, advertising campaigns such as Roboquartz and partnerships to build brand awareness. Provide innovative products and services. Partnerships in biotechnologies to develop advanced biofuels and molecules for transportation and chemicals: Fermentation: Biotech is used to create and engineer genetically modified organisms that can produce other molecules, such as diesel and jet fuel, from sugars. Пример: Amyris, a company in which Total is the reference industrial shareholder with an interest of around 18%, has a particularly innovative synthetic biology platform and a technology that can be used to convert sugar into building block molecules for transportation fuel and biochemicals (biodiesel, biojet and specialty products). Total and Amyris are working together under an R&D agreement on farnesene, a molecule of interest for biofuels and chemicals. Amyris has research laboratories and a pilot unit in California and a pilot plant and a demonstration facility in Brazil. The Futerro program to produce bioplastics from sugar beets or wheat starch. (RC) The Futurol program to develop and validate a commercial process to produce bioethanol by fermenting non-food lignocellulosic biomass. We are also looking at the third-generation microalgae pathway, still at the exploratory stage. Microalgae, like tiny factories, produce lipids through photosynthesis that can be converted into fuels or lubricants (R&D partnerships with Wageningen University, the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). Solar R&D partnerships: Optimizing cells by reducing costs, increasing efficiency and expanding applications (building-integrated solutions, etc.). R&D partnerships with Belgium's Interuniversity MicroElectronics Center (IMEC) and France's Thin Film Physics Laboratory (LPICM) and Ile-de-France Photovoltaic Institute (IPVF). Storage: Partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to develop a large-capacity, long-life, low-cost stationary battery. The results have been very encouraging and in late 2010, the partners created a start-up, Ambri, to develop these energy storage systems. Стратегия подразделения "Новые источники энергии" Focus our investments on solar energy and biotechnologies at the global level, while constantly looking for potential synergies with other Total businesses. Build a global leader in solar power – SunPower, the core of Total's solar business – and be present on all continents. SunPower (annual production capacity: 1300 MW) is the linchpin of Total's solar business (Total is the majority shareholder). Step-up our commercial initiatives in promising solar photovoltaic markets (construction and commissioning of solar power plants, contract wins, etc.). Maintain our technological leadership through cutting-edge R&D and manufacturing excellence. Continue to optimize our manufacturing processes. SunPower enjoys a strong technological advantage with the most efficient cells in the market, averaging up to 24.2% compared to 17% on average for its competitors. Expand our presence across the entire solar value chain as a supplier of solar panels and a producer of solar energy with ground-based power plants and rooftop solutions. SunPower is fully integrated across the entire value chain, from solar cell production to turnkey development of large-scale solar power plants. Achieve commercial scale-up of biotechnologies, taking an environmentally and socially sustainable approach. Accelerate the commercial scale-up of our biomass-based manufacturing processes. Concentrate on technologies to convert second-generation lignocellulosic biomass, such as wood and straw, and position the Group in one of the two main biomass conversion pathways (fermentation).
