    3rd Fret - Ring Finger

    4th Fret - Pinky Finger

Play the Practice Patterns located on the next

    page, choosing the appropriate focus:

First Focus - Learning the Basics

Play the Practice Patterns while demonstrating

    these three skills: (1) reading guitar tablature;

    (2) using correct fingering; (3) using a pick.

Second Focus - Playing by Feel

Play the Practice Patterns as you look only at

the Scale Sheet, not at your hands or guitar.

Be sure to use the correct fingering technique.

    Scale Activity 1

*You can sing the notes as labeled in Solfêge:

Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti

*You can also sing notes as any of the

5 Primary Vowel Sounds used in music:

Play the Practice Patterns as you sing along

using pitch matching technique. With pitch

matching, you will match your voice to each

    note you play on guitar.
