AFRICAN MANGO

The African mango (Irvingia gabonensis) is

known by a few common names such as the

bush mango, wild mango, or the dika or

ogbono.

They bear edible fruits, mango-like, and these

fruits are especially valued due to their high

concentration in fats or protein. And it is the

seed, or the nut, which is thought to contain the

powerful ingredient to help in weight loss.

Usually, the fruits are eaten fresh. They can also be processed into jam, jelly or juice. And wine

too!

In 2005, a study was conducted with obese participants and the results published. According to

the study, those participants who took the African mango were found to have significant

reductions in their body measurements, chiefly, the waist circumference, hip circumference

and weight etc.

In another study, 102 overweight participants were recruited for a 10-week long trial and

observation. They received capsules of 150 mg of African mango seed extract twice daily

before meals. A number of them took a placebo instead.

Results revealed that at the end of 10 weeks, the participants who took the extract reported the

average loss of 28 pounds. In addition, they reported the loss of 6.7 inches from the waist and a

reduced body fat of 18.4%.

One of the reasons why the African mango is thought to work is through the correction of

leptin resistance.

In our body, we have a “satiety” hormone called leptin. This hormone, also known as the

starvation hormone, is made by our fat cells to regulate the amount of fat stored in the cells.

Leptin works by adjusting the sensation of hunger, and compensates by working on the energy

expenditures as required by the body. Hunger is curbed when the amount of fat in the cells

reach a particular concentration.

©FlatAbsForLife.com 6

Leptin is then secreted for circulation around the body and signals the brain, by binding to the

hypothalamus, that sufficient energy has been stored. Thus we stop eating.

Overweight people tend to exhibit the phenomenon of leptin

resistance. Because of the resistance, it means that the brain is no

longer responding to the leptin. With no control of any form, the

person keeps on eating, and eating, and eating, and eating…

Here is where the African mango supplement comes in and corrects

the leptin resistance situation.

At the same time, the African mango is a fruit with high

concentration of fiber. And as with fiber, it has been known that

such fruits, which contains high amounts of fiber, totally supports a

balanced and healthy diet and way of life.

Furthermore, it has been found that the African mango allows large amounts of fat to be

burned off through the process of thermogenesis.

Thermogenesis works by increasing the core temperature of the body system. This directly

impacts the amount of fats because a large amount is burned off – without the loss of muscle

mass.

In extensive research studies, it also has been found that the African mango is able to reduce

cholesterol levels. In the long term, this bodes well because it enhances and improves

cardiovascular functions.

Clinical studies are showing that daily dosage should include about 150 mg of African mango

seed extract about half an hour before lunch and dinner.

GARCINIA CAMBOGIA

The second natural appetite control supplement we’re going to look at is the Garcinia

cambogia.

Garcinia cambogia is a tropical fruit found native to Indonesia, and it has been used for a long

time in folklore medicine and as part of the diet. Garcinia cambogia is usually used in cooking,

and more often in the preparation of the curry.

Some researchers are referring to it as Garcinia gummi-gutta. One of its common names is the

Malabar tamarind.

The fruit resembles a small pumpkin and is pale yellow in color, although it may extend to a

green hue.

Recently, this fruit drew the attention of the weight loss industry because of its newly-

discovered benefits in the field of weight loss. It works by blocking the body’s ability to make

fats and effectively puts the brakes on the appetite, thus suppressing it and keeping it in check.

The active ingredient thought to do just that can be found in the fruit rind. The component is

hydroxycitric acid, or HCA.

According to clinical studies, HCA has been found to boost episodes of fat-burning, and also act

to cut back the notorious appetite.

It appears to work by blocking an enzyme called citrate lyase. This enzyme plays a vital role in

fatty acid biosynthesis, in other words, converting sugars and starches into fats.

When the enzyme is rendered powerless, the starches and sugars

are instead converted into energy. Therefore, when there is

vigorous exercise, the fats, and any other sugar, are all used up, to

provide the fuel for the activity.

Importantly, HCA increases the sensation of satiety.

While the exact mechanism is still unclear, it has been proposed

that HCA will undergo a metabolic change, and send a signal to the

brain via the amino acid called 5-hydroxytryptophan.

With that, it means that you will eat less, because your appetite has

been satiated.

GNP Labs from Los Angeles reportedly tested Garcinia cambogia and found that it has the

potential to burn fat and boost the rate of metabolism by nearly 300% with regular intake.

In one study conducted by Harry Preuss of Georgetown University, Washington, he and his

colleagues looked at 30 healthy but overweight participants over an 8-week period. The

participants were aged 21 to 50 years old.

The participants were then put on a strict diet of 2,000 daily calories, plus a special exercise

condition: to walk half an hour for 5 days for each of the 8-week period.

The 30 participants were divided into 2 groups. One of the groups was given Super CitriMax, a

patented form of HCA which contained calcium and potassium. The other group was given a

placebo.

At the conclusion of the study, the group which

consumed the placebo lost an average of 3 pounds.

Their average BMI dropped by only 1.7%.

However, the group which took CitriMax reported a

much higher average loss – 12 pounds. At the same

time, their BMI also dropped by 6.3%.

On top of that, the CitriMax group was tested to have an

elevated serotonin level, nearly double that of the

placebo group. Higher serotonin levels are usually

associated with a more positive and relaxed mindset,

which in turn is intimately linked to a reduced

frequency of craving.

A believer in the efficacy of Garcinia cambogia, Harry

Preuss even co-authored a paper for Alliance of Natural

Health, an advocacy group, in 2013. The paper was presented as Garcinia Cambogia: How To

Optimize Its Effects.

Meanwhile, Garcinia cambogia prevents liver enzymes from metabolizing energy and turning it

into fats. It circumvents the process by channeling the calories away to develop lean muscle

mass instead, and also energy to be used by the body.

Garcinia cambogia can also improve cholesterol levels – by lowering the bad cholesterol (LDL)

and triglycerides, and raising the good cholesterol (HDL).

©FlatAbsForLife.com 9

Another important benefit is improved well-being and better quality of life.

When consumed, Garcinia cambogia provides the boost into the lifestyle. With that, the mood

can be improved and relaxed. This means that any stress-related eating – those mindless binge

and stress-triggered gobbling – can be kept at bay.

RASPBERRY KETONE

The third appetite control supplement

we’re going to look at is the raspberry

ketone.

The raspberry ketone is a phenolic

compound which occurs naturally in a

variety of fruits such as the raspberry,

cranberry, blackberry and the kiwi. For the

raspberry, extraction of the pure ketone

has been estimated to be about 1 – 4 mg

per kg.

The raspberry ketone is primarily used in the perfumery industry, and also as a food additive.

In fact, it is one of the most expensive natural flavor components to be used in the food

industry, at a whopping cost as much as $20,000 per kg, hence the reason why companies turn

instead to the cheaper alternative for the fruity flavor – synthetic ketones. They can go for just

a few dollars per pound.

So, what can this supplement do, in terms of the weight loss industry?

If you’re familiar with Dr. Oz, the Emmy Award-winning health expert featured the raspberry

ketone on his show before. He gushed excitedly about it, calling it the “world’s number one

miracle in a bottle”.

According to Dr. Mehmet Oz, the raspberry ketone works by revving up the body’s fat-burning

engine and help to break the fat apart at the cellular level. The raspberry ketone works quickly

and shows noticeable results in a mere 2 weeks.

Essentially, raspberry ketones work by increasing the concentration of adiponectin in the

bloodstream.

Adiponectin is a protein which helps maintain the rate of metabolism, in particular, the

metabolism of the fatty acid deposits in the fat cells, and uses it as fuel for energy. It is

produced in the adipose tissues and secreted into the bloodstream.

When there is more adiponectin, more fats are metabolized. This process is known as lipolysis.

©FlatAbsForLife.com 11

Adiponectin also enables glucose to move more efficiently through the bloodstream, hence

allowing it to be effectively utilized as fuel so that they will not be turned into and deposited as

fats.

It is interesting to note that women

have a higher concentration of

adiponectin as compared to men.

At the same time, raspberry ketones

offer a lot of antioxidants and fiber.

Because of this, they are very “dense”

and contain few calories.

It should be noted that one of the

functions of the raspberry ketone is to

regulate the release of norepinephrine.

During the process of regulation, there

is a spike in body temperature which may lead to a temporary increase of the rate of

metabolism.

However, besides raising body temperature, norepinephrine also raises the blood pressure and

heart rate. In consideration of these, people with diabetes, high blood pressure, existing

cardiovascular conditions etc should avoid raspberry ketones.

If in doubt, always seek professional medical advice. The same goes for all supplements.

STEVIA

Finally, we come to the last appetite control supplement and that is the stevia.

Stevia is a sweetener and a sugar substitute which is extracted from the leaves of the plant

Stevia rebaudiana, or known by the common name sweetleaf.

Because of the compound steviol glycosides, stevia is about 150 times sweeter than sugar. At

the same time, this appetite control supplement is heat- and pH-stable, and is also not

fermentable. Therefore stevia is very attractive, especially to people who are on carbohydrate-

controlled diet regimes, a substitute of sugar which still flavors the various dishes and meals

and yet won’t increase the concentration of sugar.

In fact, the stevia plant has been used for more than 1,500 years ago by the Guarani people of

South America. They used it to sweeten their local teas and medicines.

According to the U.S. Department of

Agriculture, they estimated that

Americans added more sugar to their

diet every year – from the 1970s right to

the year 2000.

In the absence of added sugar, people

started turning to sugar-like extracts

and substitutes. In fact, the sugar

substitute market is estimated to be

worth $10.5 billion in the year 2012

according to a market analysis.

In 2010, a study was published in the journal Appetite. The study involved 19 lean participants

and 12 obese participants.

According to the study, the researchers tested artificial sweeteners (stevia) against sugar in

tested consumption parameters among the participants.

Results indicated that the participants did not over-eat after consuming a meal which has been

prepared with stevia instead of sugar.

After the meal consumption, their blood sugar levels were found to be much lower, in

comparison to those who had a meal prepared with sugar. In addition, the researchers also

found that the insulin levels of those who ate the stevia-prepared meals were much lower in

comparison with those who had sugar-prepared meals.

©FlatAbsForLife.com 13

Whenever sugars are involved, this means that glucose will be involved, and when that

happens, diabetes will lurk at the sideline.

Insulin is produced by the pancreas when the brain gets the signal that there is glucose in the

bloodstream. Essentially, it regulates the concentration of glucose in the bloodstream. With

that it makes sure that we won’t be afflicted by too-low a sugar level (hypoglycemia) or too

high a level (hyperglycemia).

In acting as a substitute, stevia is able to stimulate the pancreas to produce and secrete insulin,

thus making sure that there will be no excess glucose and sugars in the blood. Hence it

prevents hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia from happening.

In December 2008, the FDA approved the use of Truvia and PureVia. Both are sweeteners

made from the stevia plant and contain no calories. These sweeteners are purified versions of

stevia called rebaudioside A.

A famous American soft-drink company is working to develop beverages made with this

natural sweetener.

With stevia, it is definitely another useful supplement to take to control the appetite, especially

when it can take the place of those refine sugar food items so notoriously high in glucose.

At the same time, stevia has another benefit in that it has a healing aspect. It can be used to heal

cuts and wounds, and can also treat skin conditions such as dermatitis and eczema issues.

CONCLUSION

At the end of the day, it is no fun being unable to curb your own appetite. The food you see

around you cry out to you and beseech you to devour them. All right, that is really exaggerated.

But you know what I mean.

The inability to control your own appetite will soon see your weight spiraling out of control.

With that, your weight will literally pull you down and bestow upon you all sorts of problems –

back ache, back strain, high cholesterol – you get the hint. All these will eventually develop into

more dire conditions, by then which it may be irreversible.

In All Natural Appetite Supplements, we introduce 4 different options: African mango, Garcinia

cambogia, raspberry ketone and stevia. These 4 substances were found to have activities in

controlling the appetite, and with that, allowing the person to eat lesser, and yet the food is still

so nutritious, and won’t pile up the pounds.

Once you are able to control your appetite, you will find that you regain your control over your

weight. With that, you will be able to look your best and invite and attract success into your life.
