• Changing Lives– Assists living at home, confidence, peace of mind, so

– People say they are back in control, have more choice and it gives them back dignity and respect. People like it. It is becoming demand led!

– Carers less worry

• It delivers efficiencies– On average care packages cost £3,400 less

Changing Lives

Leanne 24, diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

“I let myself go a bit” says Leanne. “I didn’t feel nice about myself at all. I wasn’t cooking, I was scared of what might happen, I might drop something. I wasn’t getting in the bath a lot. Everything went to pot in here.”

At first, Leanne felt that telecare was something for older people, and she was concerned how it would be seen by others. She feels differently having used it.“The stuff that I’ve got doesn’t look old, it’s got everything. Its absolutely fantastic because I feel tons better about myself,” she says. “It’s not just for the elderly. It’s not just for people with disabilities, it’s for everybody who needs it.”

“I’m more independent now. It’s made my life easier. I think that’s why I want to get other people to come forward and get the support,” she says.

Tactical considerations

• Key questions

– Are you really making the most of this?

– Do you know how much this should be worth to you?– (Proven to be at least £1,106,908 last year in NYCC)

– Is one of your ADs specifically tasked with delivering the “Telecare Dividend”? Are they delivering?

– Are you in a position to “do a North Yorkshire”?• Is it in your “first offer” alongside re-ablement?• Is it “evidenced” in assessments?• Is it truly performance managed?• Can your services deliver at scale?

Blackburn, Leicestershire, and many more

• CSED– “CSED are able to offer support to councils to help them

consider how best to implement Telecare services”

• JIP / DRD– Regional resources are being applied to this, could these be

“tapped into”?

• Do it yourself– Use internal resources to make it happen
