In this group of 141 children followed for 6 months, a ketogenic diet adversely affected blood lipid levels:– Cholesterol +58 mg/dL
– LDL chol +50 mg/dL (2 SD)
– HDL chol –7 mg/dL
– Triglycerides +58 mg/dL

• At baseline, 75% of the children were low risk (LDL <170)
• After 6 months, 53% were high risk (LDL 130+) and only 28% were in the low risk category

• At baseline, 75% of the children were low risk (HDL >45)
• After 6 months, only 51% were low risk and 16% were in the high risk category (HDL <35)
