Basic Underlying Concepts for CCR Writing Standards

1. Write arguments to support claims, informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic or convey ideas and narratives (K-8) to convey experiences

2. Strengthen writing with guidance and support from adults and peers

3. Use the writing process to produce clear and coherent writing

4. Gather relevant information from multiple sources to support analysis while avoiding plagiarism

5. Write effective extended process pieces and shorter on-demand pieces for a range of tasks
