Campbell was ordained by the First Baptist church of Maiden, sometime before his marriage and likely about the time of his first pastorate which began in 1921. Albert Luther Campbell is the son of the late Ed. Campbell and Ursley Abernathy Campbell of the Balls Creek section in Catawba county. He was born February 22, 1905, and one of his sisters, Mrs. Marion Williams, is a member of our church. His schooling was in Catawba county and was discontinued after he began preaching which was at an early age. He took his first work in 1921, the North Newton church, Newton, N. C. All his ministry has been in North Carolina. Other churches he served were Salem in the South Fork association, 1923, High Shoals in the Gaston, Reepsville in the South Fork, 1928-1937, North Brook in King's Mountain, 1928-1937, Landis in the Roan , 1937-1945, Bethlehem in the Cabarrus, 1945-1951, Lincoln Avenue in the South Fork, 1949-1955, and Rodgers Park in the Cabar- rus since 1956. Campbell married Annie Mae Parrott of Gastonia, Dec- ember 3, 1927. There are four children, Albert Eugene, born November 5, 1928; Edward G., September 16, 1932; Shirley Jo Carpenter, July 22, 1937; and Mack Evans, Aug- ust 28, 1938 who died January 15, 1953 at Lincolnton. ALBERT LUTHER CAMPBELL

An Appreciation Day service for the Rev. A.L. Campbell, former pastor of Landis Baptist Church, will be held ~y morning at 11 o'clock at the church. The Rev. Richard Horn, pastor made the announ­cement.

Special prayers will be of­fered for Mr. Campbell who is seriously ill at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital in Concord. A special offering will be taken in appreciation of the for­mer pastor's work at the Lan­dis Church in the past, and will be presented to him and his family to help with the expense of his confinement and hospitalization.

Mr. Campbell accepted the call to pastor the Landis church in October, 1937, at which time there was only 100 members. Since there was no parsonage then, he commuted between Lincolnton and Landis . His first .. task was to lead members in eliminating past church indeb­tedness.

He began a radio broadcast over WSTP, Salisbury, a nd membership of the church in­crea sed so rapidly is was necessary to build the present br ick church on Kimmons Street. Construction began in 1941 and was completed in 1942. The cost of the new sanctuary was the $50,000, which was paid in 18 months. When Mr. Camp­bell resigned in June, 1948, an educational building was plan­ned and $7,000 had been raised to begin construction.

Mr . Campbell has pastored Bethlemen Baptist Church in Concord. For 15 years he has been pastor of Rodgers Park Baptist Church, between Lan­dis and Kannapolis.

He and Mrs. Campbell are parents of five children (one is deceased) and reside at 307 West 22nd Street, Kanna olis

uneral services for the Rev. Albert Luther Campbell, 68, of 307 W. 22nd St., Kannapolis, were conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Rogers Park Ba~ tist Church. Officiating were the Rev. Harold Parker, the Rev. Clarence Jenkins and the Rev. Richard Horne.

The Rev. Mr. Campbell died at 1 p.m.Sunday at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health a num­ber of years and seriously ill nine weeks.

Born in Catawba County on Feb. 22, 1905, he was a son of the late Edward and Melinda Abernathy Campbell. A J;J.apJist minister, he was ordaineOOcf. 26 , 1921 while holding the pastorates of five small country churches in Catawba County. He came to Landis Baptist Church in 1937, where he spent 11 years dur ing the period when the congregation cond­str ucted and pa id for the present building.

In 1948, Rev. Campbell as­sumed the pastorate of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Concord, and in 1951 he moved to L incoln Avenu e Baptist ., Church, Lincolnton. Mr. Camp­bell came to Kann apolis in 1955, where he was pastor oj Rogers Park Baptist Church for 16 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs . Annie Mae P arrott Camp­bell ; three sons, Albert Gene Camphell of China Grove, Ed· ward G. Campbell of Dallas and Randy Campbell of the U. S . Army a t Ft. Bragg; a daughter , Mrs. Kenneth Car­penter of Atlanta, Ga .; two brothers, Tate and Harr)" Campbell of Maiden; ninf grandchildren; and one great, 8" dchild.Z4< ____ _ _ _
