DESCRIPTION
"Makers as a Living Ecosystem" is the light talk of Claudio Capobianco (Head of Human Machine Interaction at Snapback) at Maker Faire Rome 2014. It's a parallelism between bacteria and software ecosystem.

Makers as a living ecosystemClaudio CapobiancoRome, October 3rd
Starting idea
Now, devices have the possibility to change
both their hardware and software.
Autonomously!
Learn from biology
Since we are at the beginning of makers era,
we can look at the very beginning of biological
life: bacteria
Genetic Code and Source Code
DNA is stored in the chromosome and in small
transferable units called plasmids. We could
replicate the concept. kernel +software plasmids
DEMO
What happened
Blue blinking LED = Penicillin
Photoresistors = chemoreceptors
Bacterium resistant to Penicillin transferred the
ability to survive through a plasmid.
Makers Era
Plasmids change bacterium phenotype.
Also software plasmids could change the
device hardware (phenotype), through 3D
printers and circuit factories.
Git vs Plasmids
Git branches and merges the whole code -
even if you modify only a part of it.
Plasmid transfers (one direction) pieces of code
between two differents individuals.
