My specific prop was the flats, and my team mate’s specific prop was posters and flyers to go around the school corridor to promote the Wildcats “Big Game” and the geeks’ “Science Decathlon”. Originally, the posters that Leah created were going to be placed on lockers that stood in front of the flats, but once I looked at the staging when it was close to completion I realised that my flats

looked quite bare and boring because there was no decoration on them. To fix this, we decided to scatter the posters around on the flats to look like a school

wall which would have various posters on it advertising school clubs. This added to the feel of the set and made the whole thing look more realistic.

I deliberately painted my flats bright red to stay in keeping with the general colour theme, which was red and white because of the Wildcats’ basketball kit. This ultimately gave the set a familiar feel to the audience. The flats fit in well

with the rest of the set because they are the backdrop for the whole show – they stay where they are for the duration of the show so they had to be representative of a high school in order to allow the audience to imagine that that’s where they were. To make the backdrop look more interesting and more like a high school, we added props like lockers and a noticeboard. Adding these things made the

flats look less bare and made the set come together nicely.

We also put the posters on the lockers, again to look like realistic high school interior

My flats set a general backdrop for a high school whilst the scenes changed into different high school surroundings. Below is a picture of what the set

looked like when it was completely finished. As you can see, in addition to the posters we also made letters out of paper that spell out “WILDCATS” and

drew a large Wildcats logo in the centre. We did this again for the purpose of making the set look as realistic as possible which I think we achieved. The

detail and decoration on the flats adds to the spirit of the high school backing their basketball team. The letters and logo are white because they are in keeping with the colour scheme and also stand out against the bold red

backdrop which allows the audience to see it well. The addition of strip lights around the edge of the staging and flats makes the set look aesthetically

pleasing as a whole.
