Facts & Figures
7.5 gallons per cubic foot of water Width times length times depth will
give you cubic feet = cubic feet of water feature
Turn over a minimum of 1/3 of the water in your pond per minute. Higher if you have a high number of fish
Avoid Koi, they can devastate a local amphibian population and they are very dirty (high maintenance)
18
Use local fish (i.e. minnows) as herbivore to eat algae
Use a Bluegill or Bass (depending on size of pond)as the climax predator of the pond.
Shade the surface of the pond (minimum one third shading) to cut down on algae
Plant plants directly into gravel at bottom of the pond.
Do not fertilize plants, they should do fine off fish excrement.
