User Experience Design: Prototyping
Presentation prepared by Diane Garcia
Designers are focused on documentation
and should be exploring and executing
their design vision.
47 User Experience Design job
descriptions were analyzed.
Approximately 50% of them required
prototyping.
Industry
A survey was administered to 20 UX
designers across the organization to
collect information on:

Yes No Maybe
“Instant gratification of seeing a design go to a working interaction.”
“Enjoyed prototyping when I did it for design explorations.”
“Helped clarify understanding and illustrated the direction the design should take.”
“Detail of coding takes away from the design focus.”
“Most useful if it replaces creating specs.”
“I’d feel very comfortable if we have the right tools and training and access to the standards components.”
Highlights
1. Variation in skill set.
2. Most have created prototypes on their
projects (17 out of 20).
3. Demonstrated proof of concept.
4. Designs are brought to life which can be
seen and interacted with.
ProcessCurrent waterfall process will need to
be modified in order to accommodate
prototyping.
CollaborationAdapting a modified agile process in
partnership with web development
can lead to better communication and
increased efficiency.
