Stages of production The first thing I did was research into similar products in the industry (NME, Q , Kerrang) and looked at their designs , what made them unique , the age group they are focused at and how they represent genre’s and group’s of people. I also looked at what companies distribute these magazines and did abit of industry research. I then decided on the type of magazine I would create ( indie & rock ) , looked at age and the style of the people I was representing and started designing my magazine around that. I chose 1 cover , 1 contents and 1 DPS to copy/base my idea’s on then asked my class mates to give feedback on the magazines I had chosen. My doing that , I knew what would be best to include in my product. I started drawing flat plans on paper to create a vision of what the magazine would look like. Paper was good to use as I could rub out bad idea’s. I allowed feedback from my classmates so I could improve my product. I then started to make my magazine a reality by developing a rough Idea of my product. I used Photoshop to create a rough idea of a cover and contents and then used in design to create a DPS. During this period I organized models , organized the location and took pictures to use in my magazine. When my rough products were created , they were posted on my blog and I received feedback and ways I could improve my product , off my teachers. I then went off to finish my products thinking carefully about all the feedback I had got from my teachers and class mates.

Stages of production

The first thing I did was research into similar products in the industry (NME, Q , Kerrang) and looked at their designs , what made them unique , the age group they are focused at and how they represent genre’s and group’s of people.

What companies would distribute my product? And why?

I believe Comag would not distribute my magazine because the brands they own (The national magazine company & Conde Nast publications) do fashion and lifestyle magazines and not music mag’s however they may choose to move into that industry and choose my magazine to distribute.

The other distribution company I looked at was WWMD or specialist magazines. They distribute Q , Uncut , rolling stone and NME. Because they dominate the music magazine industry , they may choose to distribute mine too as it focuses on a similar audience.
