STILL LIFE
Word and Image
Homework Number Two
These are some pictures I took inside the house I live in now.
Tasteful, right?
When I was growing up, though, I wanted to live anywhere but here.
Not the Catholic kind, but one where they found out my inner special powers and goodness. Ok, that does sound of Catholic.
Only they'd free me from my mundane, overwhelming family and take me somewhere far away.
I dreamt a lot about going away to school. Some sort of salvational school.
Maybe where Jesus was a cool lion and not a depressing dead guy.
And there would be magic and tea and talking animals!
For a long time I also wanted to live inside The New Yorker
Not actual New York City. But the fantasy city as presented by The New Yorker Magazine.
Or also, Edwardian London. All Sherlock Holmes and Oscar Wilde.
I guess I thought naturally I'd be the witty observer. Not the guys who got gassed in WWI or went to jail for being gay.
In any event, none of that happened. I went away for
many a year, and a lot of stuff happened . . .
And now I'm back.
I ran out of interior shots pretty quickly, as you can see.
This doesn't seem to be very much about still life. Lives. Interiors.
I am not very domestic.
Except for how it indicates that even when I am in a room, I have issues being present.
Which is generally true.
