SCENARIO

I have been tasked by Facepunch Studios to design an urban city expansion map for their newly released game, Rust, the multiplayer survival game inspired by DayZ and Minecraft. This map will include overgrown trees, bushes and crumbling buildings giving the impression that the city has become a wasteland. After the map has been completed, I will create a fly through showing areas of the map so that there is an understanding of where basic resources are. First I must draw a layout of the map on paper, and then import into illustrator to make a digital copy. After I have made the digital copy I will plan and create the map using Newtek’s Modeler and using the map, create a fly through.

RESEARCH

I will carry out visual and written research from a wide range of sources for my set scenario - games, film, literature, graphic novels, news and current affairs. I will carry out primary and secondary research into the audience and market for my scenario, collating my results.

• I have compiled a range of images and put them into a Powerpoint presentation, I have done this so I have a clear idea of what I want to create when designing my map.

• I have also asked a questionnaire on reddit, which consists of all ages that are into gaming on pc. I feel that have clear enough results to know what the target market wants from a apocalyptic map and also what kind of weapons should be around.

IDEA’S GENERATION

I will generate a wide range of ideas for possible solutions for my project, producing ideas maps, brainstorms, moodboards etc. I will consider the project’s viability, timescale, client requirements, constraints etc.

• I have a range of idea’s that have been influences by the images and questionnaire that I have created.
